I can’t believe I’ve been blogging for 7 years. As of this November, I’ve spent 1/4 of my life with this little blog in the corner of my mind. Thinking about blog posts, writing them, growing this little platform and, along with it, growing myself, just as well.
To be completely honest with you, I didn’t know what I would talk about, for this blogoversary. I always like making a mark on this particular day, looking back, looking forward and, overall, just appreciating the fact that blogging is, aside from reading, now the hobby I’ve kept on with for the longest time in my life.
It’s been an adventure. These 7 years have been filled with ups and downs, highs and lows, incredible opportunities and moments of deep frustration that made me want to give it all up.
Today, I thought I’d reflect on my 7 years of blogging. I want to look back on my wins, of course, because even if I tend not to think about these too much, instead focusing on my failures, it’s so, so important to recognize what we’ve done great.
I hope you all will enjoy reading this. Thank you, for being here, for those of you reading this. It means the world to me, really.

My Wins: Successes After 7 Years Of Blogging
I built a platform I am proud of
In all of these years of blogging, I’ve been confused, lost, I’ve envied a lot of other bloggers and content creators for their incredible work and their platforms.
I’m happy to say that, today, I am proud of the blog I built. It took me so many years to reach that state of mind. Years of struggling with my identity, my blog’s design, what I wanted to do, say, write and more. I followed the crowds, I did book memes, I wrote tons of discussion posts, I overworked myself with publishing blog posts A LOT.
It’s been high and lows, but, today, it’s a real win for me to be able to say: I’m proud of the blog you’re looking at today.
With taking the terrifying step to self-hosting my blog last October, I finally feel like I have a blog that’s the way I want it to be. Of course, it’s scary sometimes to know there are so many possibilities, but I find it exilarating. From incredible book blogging plugins I could add on, to a blog design I can personalize the way I want…
Finally, in my 7th year of blogging, I feel proud of my work.
I’m not going to lie here: it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. Yes, some blog posts don’t do as well as I’d like them to. I’m nowhere near some goals I imagined I would have accomplished in 7 years, either, but I’m not going to let that bother me right now… or at least, not in this paragraph.
☂️ You can find some of my blogging essentials on this page!

I managed to grow my blog
When I first started out, I looked at my statistics every single day. My pageviews, my followers, everything. I imagined growing and, as the days and years went on, I even dared thinking about being a famous book blogger that people would recognize instantly.
I’m not delusional enough to believe that I’m a famous book blogger.
That being said, as the months and years went on, I felt a little bit astonished by how I managed to grow.
I’m still far from some of my goals, to be completely transparent, but I’m forever grateful and kind of a little bit proud to see how, thanks to my hard work, I managed to grow my pageviews, my followers and, overall, this little platform I started a little bit at random 7 years ago.
I didn’t expect anything, when I started this blog. I never wanted to become a full-time blogger, nor did I have in mind to reach 1k followers or anything like that. Seeing it happen and, slowly, with work, being able to make it grow even more, is one of my biggest wins.

I received ARCs…despite being an international blogger
If you told me 6 years ago that I would get a physical ARC of one of my most anticipated reads, from one of my favorite author of all times, I would have laughed…and cried a little bit inside knowing this had a 0,1% chance of ever happening.
Well, I’m here to tell you: believe in your chances, international friends.
It took one email and one YES to change my book blogging life. I know, ARCs aren’t the end of it all, but I’m not going to lie. Seeing every book blogger out there receiving ARCs made me feel, well, like crap. Like I wasn’t good enough, even if I had, at the time, 1k followers on my platform.
Getting that first yes made me feel like I was one of these real book influencers that publishers trusted enough to send a book to.
It is, to this day, still one of my biggest wins ever.

I’m not going to talk about right now (meaning, since 2020 and the world turned even shittier even though you imagined it impossible to, aerm)… or maybe I will, just to keep it real. Yes, I managed to receive physical ARCs in my 7 years of blogging.
No, I’m not getting any physical copies anymore. I don’t know if it’s the state of the world, the fact that book blogging is dead (god, I hope not), or just the fact that I’m not relevant enough, or anymore. I’m not going to try and dwell on that too much right now, or lose hope either. It happened and it can and will happen again, for me and for you, too.
☂️ Read my story with ARCs as an INTL blogger. Also, raise your hand in comments if you want a blog post on how to get ARCs?

I discovered so many incredible books & authors
I don’t remember how I found out about new books before I started book blogging. I honestly can’t recall.
Now, I’m finding about new book deals through twitter, adding books releasing in 2023 to my TBR already, reading books that were recommended to me by some of my blogging friends and so on.
Without book blogging, I can safely say I wouldn’t have read as much as I did, nor would I have read the same books. I feel so incredibly lucky to have found out so many new favorites and books that mean the entire world to me. Books I’ve seen myself in for the very first time, books I became obsessed about and more.
Thank you, blogging.
☂️ Some of my favorite books I read thanks to blogging here!

I met some of my closest friends
My favorite part of blogging is the friendships I’ve made. Some people I met through comments on blogs here and there that are now a permanent fixture in my life. I talk to them almost every single day and I’m so, so grateful to have them. I’m going to keep this short and sweet because I’ll sob otherwise okay, bye.

I tried (and failed): My Blogging Failures
I didn’t relax enough about blogging (still don’t)
Tell to someone with anxiety that they need to relax, though.
One of my biggest fails as a blogger is the fact that I’ve never really been able to have this relaxed approach to blogging. I’m happy to say that, ever since I started, I made tremendous progress with it all.
I’m not beating myself up anymore whenever I miss a day in my schedule.
Still, I know I’m a little bit stressed out about blogging because I CARE TOO MUCH. While I would very much love to be able to relax, take it day by day and, well, just have fun, I often find something that makes me anxious, stressed out or like I’m just not doing enough.

If you’re reading this, please rest assured: I’m doing alright. I just care a whole damn lot and therefore, apparently, like putting extra tension on myself for, like, no reason at all.
☂️ Read on: Book blogging with anxiety

I didn’t manage to monetize my blog
YES I said it, I do not regret it. I truly believe book bloggers should get paid. It’s okay if you don’t believe in this, everyone has their own opinions on that kind of taboo issue and I’m not here to talk about this.
I’m here to say: I’ve been trying to go down the monetization road for about a year, now and so far… it’s been a fail. I don’t know if it’s because my particular audience (book people) aren’t noticing, or caring, or using affiliate links, or if it’s something else.
I’m not going to dwell on this right here (maybe in a blog post? Would this interest someone?). I’m just here to mark this as a failure so far and move on.

My traffic and interactions have decreased
Transparency time: my traffic and the interactions I get on the blog haven’t been the way they used to be, lately.
I don’t know if it’s a general thing, if it’s just the way things are for every blogger, because social media is taking over everything and so on, or if it’s a me-thing.

I know I haven’t been able to interact as much as I used to in the past year. I had to lower my standards, because blog-hopping was getting in the way of my own content creation and, to be completely honest once again, of my mental health as well. I don’t know if this is the reason engagement and traffic on my blog haven’t been the best, or if it’s something else.
I’m not going to deny it: it hurts a little bit to see that happening, so… it’s here in the failure category.

Looking Forward: My Goals for The Future of My Blog
Do what makes me happy
This is my biggest goal and one I want to revisit with every new year of blogging. Whether it’s writing blog posts, promoting my blog, being on social media more or less…
I just want to do what makes me the happiest with blogging. This is why I started my blog and this is the way I want to continue it.

Grow my blog’s traffic & interactions again
Yes, this is one of my goals, just as well. Not going to lie: it would be pretty great to see if I could grow my blog’s traffic a little more.
I know that numbers aren’t everything and, while it’s not a goal I want to focus on to the point that it makes me feel bad about my blogging, it’s something I still want to keep an eye on. Low-key.

Work on my newsletter
Starting a newsletter is something I really wanted to do, for a long time now. It’s something I’ve been very irregular with, just as well.
Scared of bothering, afraid of not knowing what to say, lost in the way I want to communicate with this newsletter… My emotions have been very conflicted on this. Still, I don’t wnat to give it up.
I love the idea of having a newsletter, I love the idea of sending little extras, little personal behind the scenes, exclusive giveaways and more to my subscribers. I hope I can work on that more this upcoming year.
If you want to subscribe, you can already right here:

Be mentioned in the acknowledgments of a book
I know. This is a goal that’s completely out of my control. It’s also one that’s been on every blogging goals list I ever made ever since 2014.
It might never happen, even if I scream about my favorites and/or anticipate books with all of my heart. Who knows. It’s still one of my biggest goals in life, to see my name in between the pages of a book. To know I’ve been supportive enough with my screaming as a book blogger to earn a little place there, too. It would mean everything to me. Someday, maybe!

Congrats on 7 years of Blogging. To know it’s 1/4 of your life makes it more special. Here’s to many more years to come🥂
Thank you so, so much!! <3
This is such a great post! My blog traffic has been way down for a few months now, so I think that might be the new normal. I really hope not though. I really enjoy reading your blog and appreciate it!
Maybe it is the new normal, yes, I guess only time will tell! Thank you so much for your sweet comment! <3
You’re welcome. 🙂
I’m so incredibly proud of you and Nyx for how far you’ve come with the blog! It’s such a beautiful site to visit and reminisce – we’ve been doing this for such a long time. You are one of the people that make me hope that blogging never ceases to be a thing, because I know you put your heart and soul in everything it does and it shows so in the best of ways.
I liked that you showed both your accomplishments and failures, because it’s not always sunshine and rainbows, sometimes a drizzle or even a hurricane comes along. Still, I hope your goals for the future come true. I have to admit that being mentioned in the acknowledgments and getting my engagement up on my blog are things I’d also like to accomplish someday. Maybe we will each write books and can name each other hahaha although, for your sake, I hope it happens with someone else first.
Keep being you and shining your light! You are awesome and happy blogiversary!
KAT you’re going to make me cry 😭😭😭 thank you so, so much, honestly my blogging adventure be completely different if it weren’t for you and for all of your support. I love you! 😭
Also, I hope that we’ll both manage to be in a book’s acknowledgments someday, but know that you already have a place in mine, i fI ever publish a book, ahah. <3
THANK YOU! 😭
I’m so beyond proud of and happy for you Marie!!! Sending you all the love in the world and so glad I found you via book blogging 🙂

Oh Megan thank you so, so much for your sweet words, it means so much! Of course that’s alright, thank YOU for filling out the survey! <3
HAPPY BLOGIVRESARY MARIE!!!!! 🎉😊 7 years is such an accomplishment and I applaud you 👏🏼
I loved reading this, it sounds like you’ve had a more positive experience. I have to say, my blog traffic has gone down in the last half of the year and it’s sad but I try not to let it get to me. I think with the world opening back up that people aren’t on the internet reading blogs as much – that’s my thoughts anyway!
But you have a beautiful blog that I love reading! Here’s to another year of blogging! ❤️😊
Meghan thank you so, so much! Let’s hope for many, many more years of blogging, yes! 🙂
You’re welcome!! ❤️❤️
Yes! Many, many, many more years! I look forward to reading your work for years to come! 😊
Aww thank you <3 <3
❤️❤️
Ahhh congrats!! So happy for you. I understand that unfortunately book blogging is decreasing in popularity, hopefully it comes back in! It’s such a safe and enjoyable space that isn’t as overwhelming as Instagram and Tiktok. Love your posts always!!
-Saniya
Thank you so much! I agree with you, it’s way less overwhelming here than on social media, which is why i love it so much! Thank you, you’re so kind 😭
Happy 7th blogiversary!! I celebrated 5 years of blogging and like you it’s my longest running hobby and at this point I don’t see me ever stopping. Here’s to many more years of blogging for the both of us and I hope you reach all of your goals!!
AH congratulations to you, this is so wonderful! Here’s to many more years of blogging for both of us! 🙂
Happy 7th blogiversary!! I celebrated 5 years of blogging this year and like you it’s the hobby I’ve stuck to the longest. Here’s to many more years of blogging and I hope you reach all of your goals!!
Congratulations on 7 years! That’s such an amazing accomplishment. You have such a great blog – here’s to many more successful years of reading, reviewing, and blogging! 🙂
Ahh thank you so, so much!!
Congrats Marie!! I started my first blog in 2014 ( 😮 ) but moved to my current blog in 2019 and that’s the one I mainly consider in terms of milestones, my traffic has been down this year as well but maybe also a product of me not being around a lot? Just filled in the survey <3
Thank you so much, Cas! Ah you started on the same year as I did, that’s amazing, we’re both old here hahaha. Thank you SO much! <3
Congratulations on 7 years! It is a long journey! I hope you reach and get much more in the future. Loads of love!!
Ah thank you so, so very much! 🙂
Just completed the survey! Thanks for doing this giveaway!
Thank you so much for replying to the survey! 😀
That was so interesting 😍😍😍
Glad you enjoyed it 🙂
Happy Blogoversary! Seven years is a great achievement! I love that you consider receiving a physical ARC of one of your most anticipated reads as one of your biggest wins ever. I love receiving ARCs too but it seems that physical copies are now much harder to acquire!
Thank you so much, Lisa! 🙂 It’s still one of my biggest wins ever and yes, it’s much, much harder now, unfortunately.
Congratulations to the seven years!!✨ I am a new subscriber! So far, I love your content!
Thank you so, so much, Mia, I’m so happy to hear it! <3
I think the reason book bloggers/your readers aren’t clicking through your affiliate links is due to lack of awareness or the rejection that book bloggers should get paid.
I, too, believe book bloggers should get paid and was honestly surprised to learn they do SO MUCH for free — but I feel the tour/promotion packages for books should be treated like the promotional campaigns they are instead of sources for free publicity.
I completely agree with you, the tours and promotion packages should be treated like the promotional campaigns they are, because.. they are. They shouldn’t be done so widely freely like they currently are.
Thank you so much cor yuour comment, Jane! 🙂
i’m late, but happy 7 years of blogging marie!!! so happy i was able to meet you through blogging and you know you’ve always inspired me <3 i truly can't believe you've been blogging for this long (and that i've known you for like… more than half this time?!) and i can't wait to see how much further you'll go in the next years!!
May thank you so, so much, I’m so happy that we met thanks to blogging and forever grateful for your friendship! <3 <3
Congratulations on 7 years Marie!! And let me say this, you are really well known in the community! Everyone I know in the community knows you, that’s how well you’ve grown your blog and brand. I’m sure you will continue to do great.
Oh thank you so much, that’s so kind of you to say, thank you 🥺🥺
Congratulations on 7 years! What a milestone.
Thank you so much Linda!! <3
Congratulations on 7 years, that’s huge!! As a fellow international blogger, I understand how amazing getting a physical ARC must have felt like!
Thank you SO much Morgan! It certainly was one of the highlights of my blogging years 🙂 I hope you’ll get that chance too, if you haven’t just yet <3
HAPPY 7 YEARS!!! Congratulations on your blog it truly is a beautiful masterpiece in my eyes <3
And I really hope your wish of being in a book's acknowledgements comes true! I just bought a copy of We Can't Keep Meeting Like This because it was finally cheap enough and it feels so good to know that I can see my name in the acknowledgements 🙂
I'm sure that day will come for you soon enough!
Oh Charvi thank you so, so much! 🥺 Ahh I’m so happy for you, it must have felt amazing! 🙂
a HUGE achievement, congrats and good luck for the future!
Thank you so, so much!! 🙂
Happy (late) Blogversary, Marie!! ✨🎉 7 years is an incredibly long time and I hope that there are many more to come 🥰 I loved that you talked about your wins but also acknowledged the difficult times. I wish you all the best for the future and I’m so excited about all the content you’re creating! You’re in inspiration ❤ I also filled out your survey, thank you for doing a giveaway! 😊
Thank you so, so much Caro, I’m so happy you enjoyed this post and thank you for filling out the survey! <3
Congratulations on seven years, and on all your successes and exciting future plans. I sympathize with the declining traffic … I’ve found that as well, maybe people are just distracted (I know I am.) Here’s to better days in the future.
Thank you so much Lory! Here’s to better days, yes! 🙂
Wow, 7 years?? Congrats 🎉🎉🎉 Thanks for sharing some of the highlights and lessons from your blogging adventures!
Thank you so, so much, Veronica!
Congrats on 7 years! And I want to say, I always really enjoy your blog posts – I’m glad you’re here doing it 🙂 Will definitely do the survey!

Thank you so, so much!! 🙂
Congratulations! I enjoy the enthusiasm and energy in our posts! 😀
Aw thank you so much!! 🙂
Congratulations on seven years! Thank you for all the work you put in keeping us readers informed about the many books out there.
Thank you so, so much Summer! 🙂
First, HUGE congrats on 7 years! That is such a wonderful accomplishment! And you have made so much incredible progress, too, and I am so happy for your achievements! I also feel you SO much with the numbers and the monetization. I know some people have done quite well with affiliate links and such, but I am definitely doing something wrong hahha. I also have fully stopped looking at the numbers. They just bum me out! I know that part of it is because I simply don’t have the time I used to, but also, some of it is just the landscape of the community, and that is okay too. Here’s to many more years of blogging happiness!
Ahh Shannon thank you so, so much <3 I'm glad I'm not the only one ahah. You're so right, I think it's about the landscape of the community and how it's been changing and growing in different places ever since we started, too. thank you! <3
Congratulations on 7 years! That’s absolutely wonderful, and just so inspiring. I really enjoyed reading all of your accomplishments, you have so much to be proud of! 🙂
Thank you so, so much Anika, this means so much <3 <3
Congrats on all your years of blogging and thanks for sharing your lessons learned!
Oh thank you so, so much Nicole! 🥺
Congrats on 7 years of blogging Marie, what an accomplishment! 🥳 I enjoyed reading about your journey and what’s changed over that time. After doing your survey, I’m wondering if you would consider a blog post (apologies if you’ve written this already and I may have forgotten 😅) or discussion about how blogs can feel like more long-term compared to other platforms I’d love to read your opinion on it as a blogger with 5+ years experience.
Ahh thank you so much! This is such a great idea, yes, I’ve been thinking about writing a blog post on that particular topic soon, actually! 🙂
In case no one has mentioned this you’re well known in the community, in fact I feel like if someone doesn’t know you then they’re likely a new book blogger? You’ve inspired me ever since I first came across your blog, your posts, your energy and I love you and your blog Marie <3 I know I'm late but happy 7 years of blogging, you've accomplished so much in 7 years and I know it's so easy to compare ourselves to others and we can tell ourselves to stop but it's harder to put into practice. There are definitely times where I catch myself comparing myself to other bloggers, there have been times where I've truly felt like quitting particularly this year since I'm on hiatus and it's easy to think no one cares about your blog anymore since no 'new' content is going up. (lmao my wrap ups do not count since they're more for me and to remind ppl i am living still xD) Yet these 4 years of blogging have changed me and given me so much, I've made some amazing friends who I treasure with my whole heart. They've given me the space to explore my interests, voice my opinions and be part of a community.
This year I've definitely had to remind myself that we're all on our own timelines, we're not all going to hit those milestones in the same amount of time and that's ok. Even though a part of us may feel bitter or envious which is perfectly valid you know, it's ok because there will come a day where we will reach that milestone or a milestone we hadn't even thought of!
My biggest wins would have to be the friends I've made and the fact my blog hit 1k followers last year I think it was which was wild to me. The fact that many people cared to read it, even though my stats in no way reflect that. It's ok. I was happy I even hit 1k followers you know. Anyhoo, sending you love Marie and I can't wait to see what awaits our blogs in the coming years <3
Clo thank you so, so much, your support always means the world to me, thank you🥺🥺🥺 I so agree with you that we’re all on our own timeline and that’s okay. I think that, with social media and everyone always sharing their highlights, it’s easy to forget that. Thank you so much and I am SO proud of you and your blogging and just, of you! <3
Congrats on seven years. It takes a lot to keep a blog going that long. As for monetization, Adsense is easy–yes, it isn’t pretty, but I have a blog that gets about 5,000 views a month and I earn about $100 per year. No, I’m not getting rich, but its a little.
Thank you so much! I’m glad to hear you’re earning a little bit this way, this is wonderful! 🙂
Congrats on 7 years of blogging, Marie!! I haven’t been able to blog hope a lot recently, so I haven’t been showing this, but yours is one of my favorite blogs and I wish you all the happiness and success with it in the future. I’d love to hear your journey with trying to monetize your blog, if you’re comfortable writing about it. As for the traffic, Sabrina and I have also lost a lot of engagement this year. 🙁 I was just looking at our stats and even though our views are much higher than last year, are interactions are down by quite a lot. I don’t know if this is a general thing, or if this is in part because I haven’t had the time to blog-hop so people might comment back less. The other thing is that a lot of bloggers who were consistently commenting on our blog have not been able to blog-hope or they left blogging, at least for now. :/ Anyhow, I loved reading this post, Marie! 😊
OH thank you so much, Veronika! I’m sad to hear you also lost a lot of engagement in the past year 🙁 I feel like it’s a general thing on book blogs lately, it’s making me a bit sad and I hope it’s not something that will last, but well.. only time will tell! Thank you so much! <3
I didn’t see your giveaway until now, big sad. But I will comment anyway! I feel your pain with having less traffic and interactions lately, I’ve had that on my blog. It does feel like social media is taking over which is sad. I love blogs of all kinds! Your blog is one of my favourites and I always stop by even though your book tastes are different to mine mostly. So thank you for all the effort you put in and good luck with all your goals as you continue!
Sally
Oh Sally thank you so, so, so much for your comment, it means so much! <3 <3
Happy 7 years of blogging! That’s so exciting and I am happy that we’ve been friends on here from the beginning of our blogging journeys. <3
Thank you so, so much Ashley, SO grateful to have met you thanks to blogging! <3 <3
Congrats on 7 years, Marie! I love your blog so much and look up to you as a content creator; I feel honored to be able to call you a friend. I’m so proud of your successes and am looking forward to watching your blog grow.
And yea my interactions stink and have been since 2020. Not sure if it is me not being relevant anymore, my no longer blog hopping, or just the State of Things. Not just you! xoxo
Oh Kal thank you so much, I am the one honored to be your friend <3 I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one having a tough time with interactions lately. I'm so sad that it's the way things seem to be, now... I hope that there will always be people to read and enjoy interacting on good old, wonderful book blogs. <3
It is a bummer and I tell myself it’s probably the pandemic, because it’s affected my spoons for blog stuff as well. I hope we persevere as a niche!
I really hope so! At least we’ll always be there to support each other <3
Happy 7 Years, Marie!! *throws confetti and balloons* I connected with so much of this post, my goodness (particularly in the engagement department; mine have *plummeted*). But I just want you to know that, in my eyes, you’re a blogger that has made it and that I admire (and lowkey envy) so much!! I am so thankful for both your content and for you as a wonderful person and friend. ❤
Nicole thank you so much!! You’re so, so kind and your words mean everything to me. Thank you for being here! <3
Wow! Seven years is huge! I’m honored to have known you for three of them! I think reflection posts like this one are important, both to see how much you’ve accomplished and to see how much further you have to grow. I know that even in the three and a half years I’ve been blogging there have been many ups and downs, and perhaps for year 4 I’ll take the chance to reflect as well! Here’s to a fabulous 8th year filled with all your blogging dreams coming true!
THANK YOU! I’m so, so honored to have met YOU thanks to blogging and so grateful to live this little adventure by your side! <3
CONGRATS! 7 years is something you should be completely proud of yourself. I love your blog oh so much, and have really enjoyed getting to know you along the way. I consider you to be a good blogging friend of mine, and one I’m so happy to have had to chance to chat with during my own blogging journey. Again, congratulations, you should feel so proud of yourself xx
Melina | http://www.melinaelisa.com
Ahh thank you so, SO much, this is so kind of you to say. I’m so grateful to have met you and so glad to share this blogging adventure with you! <3
