Will I ever stop screaming about book bloggers and the astonishing work they do? Probably not. Will I ever tell you NOT to support book bloggers? Probably not, either. So, here I am again.
Listen: book bloggers deserve the entire world, the stars and the galaxy for everything they do. I’m not going to get into a rant again about WHY they deserve it all, I mean, you can read my blog post about their work if you’d like. To sum it up briefly:
I will never cease to shout about book bloggers. How amazing they are and how much they deserve to be supported.
The thing is: it’s SO SIMPLE to do that. It doesn’t take much AT ALL to make a blogger’s entire day and to make them feel like they’re not shouting into a void, the echo of their own voices coming back at them and n o t h i n g else. That void, god, that’s a terrifying, terrible thing to listen to when you’re blogging.
So here I am. I thought I’d talk about supporting book bloggers and their INCREDIBLE work and share some really easy ways to show your love.
How can you support book bloggers?
Read their blog posts
PLEASE WAIT before leaving this blog post with the thought “way to state the obvious, Marie.”
I know. Reading blog posts might seem like an obvious thing to do, but… really, it’s not. I mean, how many people do you see actually seeing the blog posts but not reading them?
I get it. Attention span is decreasing and people don’t feel like reading long blog posts. I get why people turn to content on social media, fast and easy to consume, because we’re all running after time.
It’s understandable. Yet, blog posts can be easy to consume, too, even when they’re long. (I’m going to write a blog post about how to write blog posts people will read in 2021 maybe. Should I try? Or am I just living into delusion thinking yall are reading this?)
They’re easy to consume and they’re great. I’m not saying every single word has to be devoured. Each post has a meaning and a focus and you can’t tell me you have time to read a long-ass instagram caption but don’t have time to read a blog post. Hell, an instagram caption is as long as a blog post, now, so don’t screw with me.
Read blog posts, too, don’t only stop at liking the tweet that promote said blog post or seeing the instagram story where people say they have a new post. Make the effort of hopping to their blog to see what it’s about, skim it up and down or read it in details. Pay attention.
With the bold and the big characters and the wonderful, incredible layouts bloggers are putting together, blog posts can be easy to consume, too. They also leave SO much room for discussion and incredibly resourceful things to be shared.
If you want to go the extra length, don’t stop at reading one blog post. Read the ones that are linked, check out the other categories on the blog, scroll down a little and satisfy your curiosity. Maybe you’ll find a post you deeply echo with, maybe you’ll find your next favorite read.
I know it’s all maybes, but what’s certain is that you will make a book blogger happy.
Engage with them
Blogging engagement is one of my favorite things, ever. I know, right now it’s easier to reply to a tweet, post a comment on instagram or whatever than go the extra length to engage on a book blog.
Honestly, that’s what makes it so special to me: how it takes a bit more effort to do so, but feels SO much more rewarding and less fleeting than a social media connection.
Engaging with a blogger just shows that you enjoyed their work, that you want to share your thoughts with them and more. It shows appreciation for the incredible work book bloggers do and this has no price.
Want to engage with someone’s content because you appreciated it, but don’t know what to say? There are so many different ways of showing appreciation.
You can, for instance:
- Comment on a blog post,
- Like the blog post,
- Follow their blogs,
- Ask them to be featured on your blog,
- Follow them on social media,
- Subscribe to their newsletter,
- Talk to them!
- Just let them know you liked their post, no matter which way. They’ll be happy!

Share their work with the world and about them
I often hear that book bloggers are a little under compared to bookstagram, booktube, booktok, because book bloggers are hard to find. On other platforms, they’re all in the same place, so it’s easier.
I personally believe that book blogs are maybe harder to find, but they’re worth it because they bring SO much value to the table. Of course, I’m not saying other platforms don’t, don’t get me wrong.
Anyway.
If book bloggers are hard to find, then sharing their work can do a world of difference. So here are some really simple things you can do that helps:
- Share blog posts you enjoyed on social media,
- Share them in your monthly wrap-up posts,
- Mention bloggers in your own blog posts, if they inspired you for a post, for anything, if you appreciate them, if you want to tag them…
- Recommend blogs you love! Whether someone’s asking for it or you just want to shout your love out to the world… DO IT.
- Retweet their blog posts, their words, boost their work on social media.
- If you’re a booktuber, a bookstagrammer, on any other bookish platform, share your favorite book blogs too. In the caption, in your stories and more. Other platforms should boost each other.
- Nominate your favorite bloggers in awards, like the book blogger awards or others!
Also, if you’re looking for book bloggers, I mean…May and I hosted the Book Bloggers Awards last year and made a list of over 400 book bloggers. There are SO many other ways to find book bloggers, too! Maybe I should write about that, too??
I can’t even begin to explain how important my first 3 points are to support book bloggers’ work:
- READ.
- ENGAGE.
- SHARE.
In the book influencers world, where book bloggers are continuously disregarded in profit of bookstagram, booktube and HELL even BookTok, keeping on reading, engaging, sharing book bloggers’ work matters SO much.
It shows that book bloggers’ work is important and SEEN. It gives our work worth, too.
Support book bloggers monetarily if you can
I know that book bloggers getting paid is such a taboo topic, people might be shuddering just reading those lines.
I’m not afraid of saying that I believe book bloggers should get paid. With the tremendous amount of work they do, the sweat and tears and passion they put into everything, they should be, if they want to, rewarded for their work monetarily.
100% of the time, the money gained WILL help them keep on doing what they love. Afford their hosting fees, if they are self-hosted. Help them afford books, especially if they’re international bloggers and can’t afford to go to libraries because THERE ARE NONE.
There are so many different ways to, if you can afford it, support a blogger monetarily:
- Donate to their ko-fi. It’s as little as $3 and let me assure you, it will make someone’s day.
- Donate to their Patreon. The monthly donation varies for each content creator AND 100% of the time, you get something lovely back by participating. Like, fun behind the scenes content, exclusive blog posts and more.
- Use their affiliate links. It costs absolutely NOTHING extra when you’re buying something and the blogger gets a little commission. It’s a win-win, really.
Quick tip: if you’re regularly buying books, but never think about using your book bloggers’ affiliate links… bookmark them for later use!
- Use their wishlists. Most book bloggers have a wishlist, whether they share it publicly or not. I mean, we all want more books, it’s like, our goal in life. If you want to support a blogger that way, by gifting them one of the most perfect thing a book blogger can have… JUST BUY THEM A BOOK. And just think of them crying tears of joy when they receive the package.
Tell them you appreciate their work!
Nothing makes my day more than someone telling me they enjoy my work. It takes a second in a day and kindness is so, so underrated but so necessary in this world where our work often feels like shouting from far far away and no one ever hears us.
So if you like a book blogger, TELL THEM.
- If you enjoyed reading their post, tell them. Even if you have nothing to add to it, just tell them you liked the post with a message. Guaranteed will make their day.
- Read a book because of them ? Please please let them know. I swear this is one of the BEST, most rewarding thing to hear.
- You enjoy their blog and work in general ? They should hear it.
I know how scary it can be to go up to other bloggers and tell them you’re just a fan. I mean. I’m crippled with anxiety 99% of the time and this scares me so much sometimes. Yet, if I know I can make someone’s day, I will do my best to try.
Not sure how to show your support?
If, despite all of these, you’re uncertain about how you can show support, just ask. If you don’t know if using an affiliate link or giving out a ko-fi works best, if they’d rather engage on social media or on their blog… just ask. If you haven’t seen a wishlist but would love to reward your favorites with a book they’d love, ask them if they feel comfortable sharing it with you.
Ask bloggers how you can help them and support their work.
Nothing matters more to me than book bloggers knowing that they’re heard. They are the ground the book community is standing on. Don’t let them forget it.

Kinda sad how all of thoses may seems like common sense, especially the « interact with them » part… but it truly isn’t :\ likes are good.. but I do prefer comments so much more- it’s so easy to just like it (maybe even without reading said post) and just call it a day.
I really dont get why monetarizing book bloggers is taboo tbh – i get that we’re in a pandemic and thus everyone is kinda struggling etc etc.. but hell it is hard work! Wether it’s for fun or not doesn’t erase all the work some bloggers do *willingly* put on themselves for ONE blogpost! Everybody should deserve it.

Love this Marie!! So much effort goes into posting but it’s so worth it because like you said blog posts are some of the best discussion-openers!! I feel like blog posts are generally really high quality as well because it’s obvious how much effort the blogger put in based on the content itself, the graphics, the formatting, etc. For me personally it’s easiest to share the most posts from fellow bloggers via my monthly wrap ups but it’s hard for me to consistently post those, so I’m trying to make it a goal to do more of those, because I adore so many bloggers and their posts are always so creative and original!! Book bloggers bring so much to the table and I feel like we are a dying breed. Like… I don’t read IG captions. I don’t enjoy booktube videos. I feel like book bloggers largely are the ones still hyping, reading, and reviewing the books, and it sucks we get the short end of the stick.

I’ll admit, my engagement hasn’t been the best this month, but I always try because I know just how much time and effort goes into creating a post and they’re always top quality.
I find one of the easiest ways is spotlighting blog posts I loved in my monthly wrap up. It’s a simple way of boosting the content you love, but nothing will top the joy I get from a blog comment. I feel like blog posts are always there for the discussion and there’s nothing like engaging with a fellow blogger about a topic you’re passionate about.

Please write the how to write blog posts in 2021 cause yes, we need that post <3 There is nothing digestible about videos or instagram captions in my humbly biased opinion xD Seriously though, videos on BookTube can be lengthy so like if you have the attention span for a 15 minute video, you can have the attention span to read a blog post. Although this does make me think, reading blog posts typically causes us to self reflect it makes us actively think and engage. Social media is the opposite for the masses 🤔 which could be a reason many choose it, it's passive engagement I think is the right term. You don't need to actively engage if you don't want to, you just read/watch the things but blog posts often are posing questions, sharing information and it's more active. (lmao this was a tangent whoops)
At the moment I support book bloggers through blog hopping, sharing posts both on social media and my own blog when I can and am not on hiatus. If we're connecting on social media I find it's more of a getting to connect with me as a person vs connecting to my blog if that makes sense. I turn to social media to get to know the book blogger behind the blog. I will shower blogs with as much love as I have though because I love sharing posts, giving credit for inspo and linking relevant posts in my own. It's a small thing that makes another persons day. I love people sharing my posts on social media, I adore them more if they say what they liked about my post and/or leave a comment on my post. I will take all the crumbs I get though at this point.

This was such a fantastic post, and even though I’m very late in terms of when I got around to reading this post, I definitely read it at the right time. I’m slowly coming back to blogging and blog hopping consistently, and sometimes I get overwhelmed. It’s nice to be reminded of WHY it’s so important to me that I go through all these backlist posts and comment on them. But it’s also nice to be reminded that if I don’t have the energy to comment that day, just reading and liking a post is a way of showing my support. It sometimes doesn’t feel like much, but you’re right that if it were me, that would make my day!
For me personally, any engagement warms my heart, but comments have got to be one of my favorite things. I absolutely love engaging with other readers and hearing their thoughts on the topics or books I’m discussing that day. I also always feel absolutely honored every time that someone shares my post in a monthly wrap up and such. It truly never ceases to amaze me that people appreciate what I write about enough to share it with their followers.
If we’re talking about ways I wished I got support, I would love if people used my Bookshop.org affiliate link when purchasing their books. I love what they stand for and I want to help indie bookstores, but I’ll admit that getting a percentage myself is wonderful as well. I recently had a list featured on their home page and it was incredible to see people actually purchase books on my recommendation!
