It’s only when I started writing this post that I realized just how. damn. much. I am looking forward to 2021. Not only because, let’s face it, 2020 is shitty, but also because there are so many incredible books I am looking forward to.
So here you go, a list of some of my most anticipated YA books for 2021. Mostly contemporary because well, you know me and my love for them? Yet you’ll also find a bit of mystery, thriller and fantasy and I don’t know, I’m just very hyped for all the books and praying to be able to read all of these as soon as possible.
Compiling this blog post took me about two entire weeks (like, seriously) so here’s to hoping you’ll enjoy it!

Their upcoming YA is about two rivals, over-achieving seniors forced to work together and I can already feel the tension turning into yearning and AH I’m. SCREAMING. ALREADY. I need it so badly.

So many wonderful books coming in 2021!! Ah I’m so happy to hear that! I hope you’ll find books you’ll love here 🙂
I am really not that informed about what’s being released next year and I like going into 2021 fairly blind, but when I saw The Ones We’re Meant to Find for the first time, I just FELL IN LOVE! I definitely want to read that one, so, it made me happy to see it on your list!
AH YES me too! I am so, so damn excited for this book, it sounds incredible. <3
THIS LIST MARIE!! i’m dying, my tbr can’t deal with all of these books, but thank you for putting such a great list together 🥺 i am super excited about darling, the ones we’re meant to find, and how we all fall apart! i think my most anticipated 2021 books are veering towards adult surprisingly, but some other ya ones i’m excited for are ace of spaces, rise to the sun, six crimson cranes, and the mirror season! <3
AH thank you so much, I’m just so happy you enjoyed this list, thank you 🥺🥺 I can’t WAIT to read Ace of Spades it sounds SO GOOD!
Frankly, I am impressed that you were able to whittle it down to 28! I’d be over here like “hmm can’t seem to get lower than 182…” 😂 There are SO many that I am also looking forward to on your list too! I started to list them but then I realized I would just be… listing your list haha. You clearly have good taste! Hopefully we both enjoy as many as humanly possible!!
Ahah I had a hard time narrowing it down, but I had to for my sanity 😂😂 I can’t wait for us to read all of these incredible books! 🙂
Wow, so many cool books getting released in 2021! 😀 “Reconnected” sparked my interest, I’m going to add it to my Goodreads TBR. Here’s hoping to a muuuuch better 2021 on all fronts! :3
Right? This is so exciting! Here’s to hoping, yes! Thank you so much for your sweet comment <3 <3
Ahh Marie thanks for compiling this there are many books here I need to add to my TBR! I hadn’t heard of The Roughest Draft until now but !!! + I need to read more Wibbroka ahh and the cover for What’s Not To Love! I’m really drawn to the idea of dark academic and it’s definitely something I want to read more of so some of these books are perfect.
Oh thank you, I’m so happy you enjoyed this list so much, thank you <3 I hope you'll love Wibbroka's books, I adore them all SO MUCH really <3
All of these books look soooo good! I need all the books and more time to read them all. 😛 <3
AHH yes don’t we all 😭
ahhh, i had no idea sara barnard was coming out with a new book! and it’s about traveling! i read a quiet kind of thunder earlier this year, and i really want to read more from her!
i also couldn’t help but notice the rising of “rival stores” romances. i believe tweet cute, verona comics and now “last chance books” all have this trope? i don’t know how i feel about it just yet, since i haven’t read any of these titles, but it’s interesting to me that it’s been apparently a rising trope since 2019.
perfect on paper is definitely in my list of anticipated releases! another one i’ve been thinking a lot about is concrete rose, by angie thomas. i just *know* it’s going to wreck me completely and i’m so ready, hahah.
thanks for sharing, marie!
ahhh yes! I can’t wait to read more from Sara Barnard either, I loved all of her books so far! <3
Oh yes you're so right, I didn't see that, but yes, there's a little bit of this trope going around lately, recommended for you has it, too. I've been enjoying it in all the books I've read so far, I hope I won't get bored by it anytime soon! :)
Thank you so, so much, Lais, so happy you enjoyed this list <3
So many of these look fantastic! I’ve been reading all middle grade spec fic lately for the Cybils Awards, but just looking at this book makes me excited to jump back into YA!
Ahh yay! I hope you’ll love some of these when you can read them 🙂
Hey, it’s been ages. I hope you, your sister and the rest of your family are well. I also hope you end up enjoying all of these want I’ll like your post a bit later as for some reason the button isn’t loading atm
This is a fantastic list (: I agree that the covers for The Ones We’re Meant To Find & Sisters Of The Snake are gorgeous. I can’t wait for them to come out too as they sound amazing. I also particularly love the sound of The Roughest Draft and The Book Of Living Secrets but I have quite a few of these on my TBR.
Most of my most anticipated books are fantasy but two contemporary novels that I’m super excited about are Every Single Lie and Castle School For Troubled Girls, especially as I adored the authors previous book
Hi Charlotte!! Thank you so much for your sweet comment, it has been so long indeed! I hope you’ve been doing okay <3 <3
Thank you so much! I hope you'll love all of these books, they all sound incredible. I didn't know about Every Single Lie and Castle, I'll look them up right now, thanks for the recommendations 🥰🥰
Thank you. I was ill at the start of the year but I’m good now thanks and I hope you’re doing well too 💗💗
Aww thank you 😊 I hope you love all of them too. And I’m happy I could think of a few contemporary releases that were new to you .
Oh I’m glad you’re doing better now!! <3 <3
Thank you 💗💗
Hey, firstly sorry if I’ve commented on here twice. I did write a comment the other day but I don’t think it posted. Secondly I will try to like your post as well but atm it won’t let me for some strange reason. And thirdly I hope that you, your sister and the rest of your family are well.
Youve shared so many books here and I love the sound of the majority of them too. I adore the sound of Sisters Of The Snake (and the covers stunning too) especially along with Roughest Draft and Book Of Living Secrets.
Most of my most anticipated books are fantasy but contemporary wise I can’t wait for The Castle School (For Troubled Girls) to come out as I adored the authors last book. And I really want to read Every Single Lie sometime too.
Thank you so much, Charlotte! I received your first comment and answered to it, it was just still pending on my side! 🥺
Ah I did wonder if it was something like that but wasn’t sure where it was playing up and wouldn’t load the like button for me. Sorry for the double comment.
No worries!! <3
