On writing, adulting and #SFATW

Good morning, good afternoon, good night friends! How are you? I hope you had a lovely week, filled with great books and love. I was supposed to come up with another bookish discussion today, but I have lots of news to share, so… today’s a kind of Sunday Post day!

I’m taking part again in this lovely special feature created by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer, and, without further ado…let’s talk adulting (ugh), writing (yes!) and…my special feature.

But before getting into any of this, I need to say THANK YOU.

To ALL of you guys. I kind of reached a big milestone the other day, and I can’t believe this is happening. It’s weird, because I’m thrilled, but I know that numbers doesn’t matter, well, not as much as other things. Anyhow, I want to say THANK YOU for all of your support, love, and for making blogging something that seems true, real, and some place I can rely on and actually feel good, in a place where my life seems like it’s a bit messy and confused.

crying

Also, in case you didn’t notice or know, it’s my birthday soon, so…to celebrate both this and YOU GUYS, I’m going to hold a little surprise. Hope you’ll enjoy it, and…well, you’ll have to wait for my birthday to know what’s actually going on.

Writing 📝

I love writing. I love making up stories, I love getting into characters’ thoughts and skin, and I have a soft spot for childhood loves, drama, mysteries and creepy school / houses / people type of thing. But I haven’t been writing for almost a whole year now, because, well, life happened, I guess. I won NaNoWriMo last year, and tried and miserably failed at editing this novel for Camp NaNoWriMo last April.

anxiety-writing

Before getting any more into this, I need to mention my dear friend Kat, because she has been a huge inspiration in this. With her new Writing series on her blog, it inspired me to get back to it. Even if I know I will probably lack time, I want to commit to my writing. I don’t want to give things up.

Okay, why am I ranting about this and why am I bothering you?! I have made a decision about my writing, and my NaNoWriMo novel – well, first draft, for now. I realized that I needed to have a schedule, and some kind of motivation. And your words, as well.

📝

As of right now, I am officially subscribed on Wattpad. As I rewrite this story, I will be sharing one chapter of it on Saturdays – well, hoping to, anyway. I hope this will give me the motivation to write towards some goal, to share my writing and everything.

three-seconds-book-coverYou can read the beginning of my story right now by clicking right here. I would love some of your feedback, on here, anywhere, really. And now I’m going to go hide because I am way too nervous to be doing this. ALSO, if you’re not on Wattpad but like contemporary/mystery/romance and would be interested in offering some feedback, let me know!

Adulting 💼

friends

If you’ve been following me for a couple months, or from the start, maybe it’s come to your attention that I graduated recently, bringing big changes, both great and kind of annoying, in my life. I’m not keen on sharing too much about myself, so I won’t dwell on this too much. That being said, I am starting a new job on Monday. Yes, that’s tomorrow, and yes, I’m totally having a nervous breakdown about right now. Also, it’s not exactly next door, so between commuting every day, working lots of hours and basically being tired / adjusting to the change, I might be a little MIA. I will still be here, my posts as well, I might just react like a sloth for a couple days. But I’m always here, and exciting things are happening in the blog…

#SFATW: Subscribe to send and receive gifts from bloggers!Souvenirs from across the world(3)

Are you going to subscribe for the SFATW souvenirs exchange? 🎁

Also, totally unrelated, but if you have tips or know how to properly adult, hm…let me know, haha.

  1. You’ll do just fine at your new job! It’s only normal to be tired the first couple of days (or weeks … or months XD really depending on what it is you do).
And YAY you for sharing your writing! I am really glad I served as somewhat of an inspiration. I can’t wait to see everyone’s reaction and for you to continue posting bits of the story!

  2. How to adult: just don’t. Run. Hide. Just sleep. Lol! Just kidding! But really, adulting is honestly so exhausting, and I’m only at the pre-adulting stage if you wish to call it that. And I really really love your exchange idea! I really hope to participate this time!!

  3. Ah so much going on, that’s so cool! First of all, congratulations on your milestone! You have an amazing blog so it’s definitely well deserved!
Also, it’s so cool that you’re committed to writing! I’ll definitely be checking out your Wattpad! I don’t have one, but I’ve always been intrigued with writing my own story someday. Not today, but someday 😉
Congrats on the job and the adulting as well! I wish I could give you some tips, but I’ve been adulting for 10 years now and it still kind of feels like I’m winging it most of the time 😉 So I guess I’d just say to take it one day at a time and enjoy all the small milestones!

I'm trying to be, ahah, I just miss writing so much but I'm trying to find a way to juggle between writing and life and everything. It's hard, but well I don't want to give things up ahah. Thank you, and thank you for the advice, really, I appreciate it a lot ❤ ❤

And you got a joooooooooooob !!! I'm so glad and happy for you Twinnie ❤ I want to hear all about it asap ! Look at the bright side, commuting will give you additional time for reading huh?

    1. Thank you so much, I hope it will last just as well. It’s always so scary ahah, whenever I start something I’m scared of losing inspiration in the middle of it all and giving up. I hope that won’t happen this time 🙂
Aw thank you my twinnie! Well that’s exactly what I am thinking about: reading, reading, and reading ahah 🙂

  5. That’s awesome that you’ve gotten back to writing. I still haven’t finished editing my second novel. I hope the editors still want to see it after I took my good old time. 🙂 I was also thinking about adding one chapter a week of my first novel to Wattpad. I’m not sure if I should change it or keep it. I already had it professionally edited and formatted with a cover, so I was thinking about posting it there instead of trying to get it published. I wouldn’t mind have a bunch of beta readers for free. I know that feeling! I’ll definitely check out your first chapter when I get to Florida. I’m @jillianquinn7 on Wattpad. Good luck with your job, Marie! I need to find a new one in Florida. I might be MIA at times once I find one. 😂

      1. Yeah, I wrote a YA fantasy first that has a romantic element to it. I was thinking about changing it and making it adult fantasy, but I haven’t been able to write all summer. I have terrible writers block. I might just upload it to Wattpad and see what people think. 🙂 My second novel is an NA romance. I think that’s more my genre. I was planning to finish my edits in Florida and send it off to the editors who requested it months ago from a few publishing houses. I might even shop it out to agents. I haven’t decided yet. Thanks, Marie! I need some relaxation time and then I’ll look for jobs. What a pain! 🙂

      2. Ohh that’s so awesome, I admire you so much right now ahah. I think it’s a great idea. I felt a bit stuck with my work lately, but already the two or three feedbacks I got helped me so much, and motivated me to write more, just as well. I hope you’ll manage to finish your edits and send this novel out to the world! 🙂
I get it… looking for a job isn’t fun, at all. But you can do it! And well, I’ll be there if you need to rant about it a bit haha 🙂

        Liked by 1 person

      3. Aww, thanks, Marie! 🙂 I also need some feedback. My editor says she loves everything, and I feel like I need a real opinion. I will definitely read it when I get to Florida tonight. I’m looking forward to it. 🙂 I know how hard it is to write a novel. We can rant all about it together. 🙂

      4. It is so hard, but at the moment I’ really trying to remember how much fun I have while I’m writing. I have no deadline, so not much pressure to deal with except the one I’m building on my own, so… Well, I guess it’s still really hard, ahah, but we should remind ourselves of the fun it is as well 🙂

  6. Great post! haha.. about adulting, still don’t really understand it but I’d suggest something along the lines of ‘fake it ’till you make it’. Worked quite well for me so far 😀 I actually downloaded wattpad but haven’t signed up yet, but I’d so love to read what you post there! Do you write the name you use there so I can find you? Hope you have fun on your first day at work 😉

  7. Ah, oh my gosh, congratulations on all your achievements (the milestone, graduating, revising/rewriting your story), Marie! And I’m going to say it now in case I’m not around the blogosphere then… but happy early birthday! Hope you decide to treat yourself during that entire week. 😉

And good luck your first day at your new job! I’m sure it’s going to be great. ❤

  8. Ah congrats on your new job, good luck for your first day 🙂 it’s a bit disorientating keeping up with blogging when you start work at first, but once you get used to it it’s fine 🙂 and this is very exciting about sfatw!!! Hopefully I can participate again- have to check I can definitely make time for it, bit pretty sure I’m game- I *loved* participating last time!!

    1. Thank you so much ❤ It is so disorienting, I feel like my eye balls are going to fall out at any moment if I'm being completely honest hahaha, but.. well, I hope so ahah.
Oh well I'm really hoping you'll be able to participate again! Thank you SO much for your enthusiasm, this makes me SO happy ❤

  9. Adulting is no fun ha ha, but good luck with the job anyway! I’m sure you’ll do fine. I clicked over to read your post on numbers/ milestones and thought it was great- very well said! Sometimes I’m almost glad my blog isn’t huge, you know- I like the little niche I’ve carved out and my usual visitors/readers are like friends now, and it works for me, but yeah- if only we could just blog right? 🙂

    Good luck with the writing!

  10. Congrats on reaching another milestone, Marie! I think it’s good to be thrilled about it – like, numbers shouldn’t be the end all and be all, but they’re still evidence for something, you know? And as long as you don’t let it control your thoughts I think you’re on the right track.

I’ve just started to get back to writing, too, recently! It’s SO HARD to get back into it when I’ve stopped doing it for five years, but it makes me feel good to see that I can still do it. All the best for your writing. ❤

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Thank you so, so much Reg! ❤ You're right, it still feels great to remember some of these numbers, even if, in the end, what makes me happy and smile the most is people like you ❤ ❤ ❤
Ohhhh that's SO great! What are you writing exactly, if I can ask? You can get back to it, I'm sure of it. I wrote a lot, and then kind of had a one year break, and I thought I wasn't able to write anything anymore. I'm glad that wasn't the case ahah. All the best for YOUR writing, REg! ❤

      1. Thanks! I’m semi-writing, semi-plotting two different YA contemporary novels. My big goal is writing fantasy, but my world-building basically sucks and feels very, very tired to me, so I’m trying to ease my way back into it by writing something I’m more familiar with, i.e. the real world. What are you writing, Marie? ❤

        Liked by 1 person

      2. It’s definitely not as exciting as it sounds! I used to be able to write more daily when I was a teen/in uni, but now with work and life, it’s very hard to squeeze in a good amount of time. How do you do it, Marie?? 😭

        Liked by 1 person

      3. Yeah, I guess as long as you’re making some sort of progress, it’s still progress. It’s SO HARD for me to balance that with work, blogging, reading and social life. Like I’ve been writing a bit more this week and it already feels like I’m neglecting my friends/BF bc I don’t talk to them as often as I used to. 😂

        Liked by 1 person

      4. I knooow. How do people do it?! I was listening to this podcast the other day and they were like “oh you gotta put effort and time into it” and I’m like yeaaah I am, but I’ll have to sacrifice other things for it. 😂

        Liked by 1 person

  11. I love what you’ve written so far for your story, Marie!! ♥♥ I’m also suuper sad that I won’t be able to participate in the souvenir giving. Having no money sucks, haha. Which brings me to your next point about adulting which also sucks. I’m trying to stay in denial about having to do it for as long as I can. I’m sure you’ll be able to handle it brilliantly though!! Congrats on the new job. I hope everything goes well for you.

    1. Ohh thank you so, SO much Lauren, that’s so sweet, I’m so happy you liked it ❤ ❤ I get it, no worries, shipping costs are kind of a pain in the *** ahah. I want to send things to Australia ❤ Haha, I'm in denial about it all as well. I'm still 10 years old haha. Thank you for all of your support, it means the world to me ❤ ❤ ❤

I’ll be start the hunt for a job soon. About early next year, (maybe, depending on the result of my thesis) and I’m not excited for it all. Haha.
I hope you continue writing! The prologue has me intrigued, would love to read your whole novel one day 🙂
PS: I made a comment the other day on your wrap up post, might have gotten lost somewhere, but happy (opposite of belated) birthday!

I really love plotting, but I end up writing nothing, so I’m always impressed by people who can manage writing, reading and life. I wish you all the luck for NaNoWriMo and I hope you continue to share your writing with us!

The part one of the SFATW project is made of the blog posts coming up every month. The first one was on September 11th and the next one is coming tomorrow, it’s about food ❤ And you can write your blog post about the theme all month long (until November the 6th), on your blog, and come back here and leave a link, so I add you to my post :).
As for the part two, the souvenirs sending, the subscriptions stop at the beginning of November, and I will email you with your match (the blogger you'll send, and receive gifts from) on November 13th 🙂
If you have any more questions, you can read the FAQ ( https://drizzleandhurricanebooks.wordpress.com/what-is-sfatw/ ) or ask me 🙂
As for NaNoWriMo, nooooooo it is completely free! You can subscribe for free on their website and just write, update your word count every week and see your progress 🙂

Anyways congratulations on your big milestone, I get what you mean how the stats aren’t necessary for being a successful blogger but it’s always nice to see them go up isn’t it? Also congratulations on your new job! How has your first week been? Are you enjoying it so far?
That’s great about posting your story on Wattpad, I’ll be sure to check it out when I’ve caught up on what I’ve missed blogging wise.
Also I will definitely be signing up for SFATW again, I loved it so much the first time I’m looking forwards to having another go at it! 😀 Once again it’ll have to wait until I’ve caught up on what I’ve missed blogging wise! 😀

I hope so too, as well. I guess I'm used to the university rhythm, and I was kind of used to "office hours" during my last internship, but now it feels differnet, because I know holidays won't be the same, at all, ahah, and anyway. I guess it will take a bit of time yeah ❤
