Happy Sunday, friends! I’m back today with part two of my most anticipated reads for 2019. As you all know, contemporary is and always will be my favorite genre, but there are just SO many good looking books in other genres coming soon, so….I couldn’t NOT make a similar list now, could I?
Let’s be honest, I also live to make you add books to your TBR.

In case you missed it, part one with my most anticipated young adult contemporary books is right here!
You can click on the covers to go to goodreads, if you want to make your TBR grow.
We Set The Dark On Fire, Tehlor Kay Mejia
Why I want to read it ? I already talked about this book before, but damn. It is MY most anticipated fantasy read of the year and it sounds INCREDIBLE. An original dystopia with incredibly kick-ass looking Latina MCs and f/f romance and I’m already a fan.
The Devouring Gray, Christine Lynn Hermann
Why I want to read it ? I have been SO intrigued about this one for quite a little while now, because this sounds like it has such an incredible atmosphere and I am SO intrigued. Founding families and strange abilities and this gives me Raven-Boys vibes and atmosphere and hello I can’t wait.
Girl Gone Viral, Arvin Ahmadi
Why I want to read it ? I really enjoyed Ahmadi’s contemporary debut, Down and Across and damn, that one sounds INCREDIBLY AWESOME? A missing dad, a seventeen years-old female code genius and I don’t know I’m digging this SO MUCH already somehow.
? Read my full review for Down and Across.
The Quiet At The End of The World, Lauren James
Why I want to read it ? I LOVE everything Lauren James does and think everyone should try one of her books at some point, really. With this gorgeous-looking book, she gives us a story about two young survivors on earth and this is going to be as always, surprising and incredible and ahh here for it.
? Read my review of her latest release, The Loneliest Girl of The Universe.
The Similars, Rebecca Hanover
Why I want to read it ? I’m always and forever digging boarding school settings and this one is prestigious and, brace yourself… there are clones. How strange is that, right? This sounds SO intriguing and I don’t know, I have a feeling I’d love this?
Spin The Dawn, Elizabeth Lim
Why I want to read it ? This is promoted as Project Runaway meets Mulan and I have no idea if that’s true (because you know, blurbs sometimes aren’t that accurate) but if it it well WOW. From the synopsis, this sounds incredibly fascinating and magical and dreamy and I don’t know I want it.
The Gilded Wolves, Roshani Chokshi
Why I want to read it ? I loved the author’s writing so much in The Star-Touched Queen and have been so eager to read more from her. That one somehow gives me National Treasure and quests vibe with an amazing cast of characters from what I hear and hell it’s set in France and I’m French and SO DAMN EXCITED OKAY.
Before I Disappear, Danielle Stinson
Why I want to read it ? I don’t know why, but I’m always curious about books where people disappear? I love that premise so much, where an entire town disappears and a teenager gets into a quest to save her brother. That will be amazing.
The Fever King, Victoria Lee
Why I want to read it ? I heard SO much about this book from fellow bloggers… I had to be curious and I feel like it’s a good thing I was because this sounds fantastic, with a mix of magic and politics and a diverse cast and forbidden romance and ugh that sounds so good.
The Beholder, Anna Bright
Why I want to read it ? This feels like The Selection (but better) on a boat or something somehow and I’m ALL FOR THIS. This one sounds fascinating and with some travel and exploring vibes alongside the suitors and helloooooo great looking book I love you.
***
Some honorable mentions, a.k.a more books on my radar because someone help me I just can’t stop.
- Enchantée, Gita Trelease : let’s face it. This book is set in France and my small little Frenchie-me is estatic about it. AND this sounds very very cool and I am so curious about it.
- Children of Virtue and Vengeance, Tomi Adeyemi: Do I really need to share my reasons for that one?
- Last of her Name, Jessica Khoury: The author’s book, The Forbidden Wish, is one of my favorites of all times and if I’m a little nervous about this being sci-fi, I’m going to NEED it anyway because, well… it’s Jessica Khoury.
Did you hear of any of these books before? Are you anticipating them as well for the new year?
What are some fantasy, sci-fi, dystopia books you’re eager to read? Whether they release in 2019 or are already released! Let me know all of your recommendations in comments!

Spin the Dawn is literally one my most anticipated book of the year. Anything that is inspired by Mulan has me curious. Thank you so much for your comment! <3
I got an e-ARC of the Similars and I need to start reading it because it comes out next month. I agree with your comments on The Gilded Wolves. The authors writing is so elegant yet somehow that also intimidates me away from wanting to read it. The cover is gorgeous and its probably the book I’ve seen the most. I love these lists because I always find a new book, thanks Marie!
Oh that’s amazing! I really hope you’ll love it, can’t wait to hear your thoughts about it 🙂
I agree that The Gilded Wolves has been a little everywhere lately, but it is so gorgeous haha 🙂
Oh this makes me so happy, you’re so welcome, thank you for your sweet comment! <3 <3
I’m trying not to buy too any books in 2019 because I own WAY too many unread books, but I’m allowed 5 freebies and I’m definitely going to use it on The Devouring Gray! I’m so excited for it 🙂

Lovely post, Marie!! I’m also really excited for We Set the Dark on Fire, Spin the Dawn, The Fever King, and Last of her Name. (I’m so glad we both loved Jessica Khoury’s The Forbidden Wish; it was such a gorgeously written Aladdin retelling!! ?) Aahhh 2019 is going to bring us so many amazing books and I CANNOT wait.
Oh thank you so, so much Dezzy! <3
I'm so happy to hear we're excited for the same books, 2019 is going to be an amazing reading year… well, I hope so haha, I can't wait either 😀
I just posted my review for The Similars if you want to check it out. I need to add The Quiet at the End of the World and Before I Disappear to my TBR, they both look amazing! What is your favorite Lauren James novel? I have never read anything by her.
Ahh I’m so glad to hear that, I hope you’ll enjoy them 🙂
My favorite from Lauren James is her latest book, The Loneliest Girl in the Universe. It’s just such a quick, compelling and surprising read, I loved it! I hope you will too 😀
Thank you so much for your comment! 🙂
Oh that sounds amazing! I will have to check it out. I will add it to my TBR right now!
Yay, happy to hear it 😀
oooh yes I am VERY excited for The Gilded Wolves! I love that style of story?! (Although I admit I didn’t do so well with her first book but afksdla I want to still try to read everything. ?) And I actually just preordered The Fever King because I’m so excited for it!! Also VERY much hoping Maggie Stiefvater announces the start of the new Ronan trilogy next year ahhh! That will be my top pick for sure if it comes haha.
Ahh, I’m so happy you’re excited about these books as well! <3 I'm so curious about The Fever King, I've heard so much praise about it so far, I can't wait to read it 🙂

Thank you so much!! Oh, that’s good to know, I’ll have to check it out too 😀
THE SIMILARS is on my TBR for 2019. I really love the cover!
Ohh same here, I think it looks SO good. I hope the inside will be just as great 😀
Thank you for your comment! 🙂
I basically need to add all of these onto my TBR list! 😀 The only one I currently have on there is The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi because after reading The Star-Touched Queen anything she writes is going to be a priority of mine. I can’t wait for it’s release. 😀
Also I’m currently reading Enchantée and it’s really good; it’s slightly slow to start off with but the world building when it comes to Paris and the magic involved is so well written. I’m sure you’ll end up loving it Marie. 🙂
Great post, and fingers crossed you manage to get your hands on all of these books really soon as well. 😀 <3
Oh that’s so great that you’re reading and enjoying Enchantée, I can’t wait! It sounds like a book that has tons of potential, especially with the world, so I’m happy it delivers for you so far! I hope you’ll keep on loving it 🙂
Thank you so much, Beth! <3 <3
Honestly the world building was my favourite part of this book, and it had clearly been well researched which made it all the more better. 🙂
That’s all right. 🙂 ❤️
That’s so good to hear! 😀
I was going to start The Gilded Wolves soon, but I’ve seen some very meh reviews for it, which makes me hesitate. I don’t like to read books when I have other people’s opinions in my head, so I wait until I’ve forgotten what they’ve said, haha. Added a lot of the others to my TBR (which you are really bad for)!
Check out my 2018 End of the Year Giveaway! Lindsi @ Do You Dog-ear? ?
Oh no, I get that, in that case it’s better to wait a little bit, otherwise you’ll get in with certain expectations and that might ruin it all:/ I hope you’ll end up enjoying it 🙂
Thank you so much! Haha I’m sorry, but I’m glad to make your TBR grow 😛

AHHH YES I’m glad I got you excited about his book, it just sounds SO good I can’t wait 😀
I have no idea how we’ll find the time, maybe we should just travel to a small island in the middle of nowhere with all the books to have the time to read them hahaha. 😛
I don’t even want to count the tabs I opened while going through your list. Damn you, Marie! [But not really. Love you! <3 ]
Also – A Curse So Dark And Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer because hello Beauty and the Beast-retelling. How can I resist?!!
Ooops…. Well I’m glad if I could make your TBR grow? 😛

I’m honestly most curious about Tomi Adeyemi’s sequel as her first book has soooooo much hype and buzz, especially the whole J.K. Rowling comparisons had me wondering if she’ll be able to live up to it all! Awesome list nonetheless though! 😀
OH yes, I’m curious to see that, too, that first book had massive hype and success everywhere, I’m curious to see what happens with the second one, too! 🙂
thank you so much! ❤
Wow these novels sound very interesting. I am curious about The Quiet at the End of the World (what a beautiful cover!!!) as well as The Similars (in general I am fascinated by clones haha.) Looking forward to hearing your thoughts about these books. Thanks for sharing Marie <3 😀

They sound amazing, I hope they will be! 😀 Thank you so much! <3
I’ve been super excited to dive into WICKED SAINTS by Emily Duncan, which comes out April 2019! Also, WHITE STAG by Kara Barbieri! One of the ones I really want to scream about is SORCERY OF THORNS by Margaret Rogerson, since I loved her debut so much.
Oh I’ve heard so much about Wicked Saints, I hope you’ll enjoy it! I haven’t read Margaret Rogerson’s debut, but I’ve heard a lot of good things about it, maybe I should try it out 🙂
Thank you so much for your comment! <3
THERE ARE TOO MANY BOOKS.
Marie, I’m having book induced anxiety. Send help.
But seriously, how are we supposed to read them all? It’s even worse for me now, because in the last year I’ve really diversified my reading, so now in addition to my YA TBR I have a memoir TBR and a podcast rec TBR and a Belletrist TBR and I just don’t have the time or the money!
I know right? There are WAY TOO MANY BOOKS and I just don’t know what to do with myself anymore, either haha.
I guess it will be that time to make a very complicated selection to get some books and not everything haha 🙂
Oh yeees The Gilded Wolves, I’m so excited for that one and have been hearing so many good things so far ? Added Girl Gone Viral to my list now as it sounds really good! Somehow I really love books about coding and hackers, I find it so fascinating 😀 And of course I’m so exicted for the COBAB sequel as well!
Oh same here, I find books with coders and hackers and new technologies kind of fascinating, too, so I can’t wait for that one, it sounds INCREDIBLE. I hope we will both love it 🙂
Thank you so, so much Caro! <3
Sorry but James’ book has such an amazing cover? Like, my bookish life start now thanks to it ?
But also The Gilded Wolves! I’m so excited for it. Not that Spin the Dawn is less amazing. To be honest, 2019 is an amazing year
I KNOW RIGHT? I am so in love with that cover, it looks absolutely stunning <3
I can't wait to read all of these books, 2019 will be an incredible bookish year 🙂
Thank you so much for your comment Camilla! <3

Aww I’m so glad to hear this! <3 I hope you'll love some of these books 😀
The Gilded Wolves is definitely on my TBR. I have heard so many amazing things about it. And now I know you loved it too 😀 Another one I am excited for is the sequel of Children of Blood and Bone.
I am adding rest of these to my TBR 😀
I can’t wait for you to read the gilded wolves, I hope you’ll love it! ❤
so glad I could help you find some new books! ❤
So many awesome fantasy and sci-fi books coming out! I’m debating right now about whether or not to get The Gilded Wolves audiobook for review—I’ve been trying not to take on too many review books, but that one has really caught my eye, and I think I might go for it!
There are just SO many books to read, ahhh, I want them all ? I hope you’ll get to pick up the Gilded Wolves, I read it and really, reaaally enjoyed it 😀
Happy reading, Nicole! <3
That’s the only nudge I needed. 🙂
