In the book blogging community, it is easy to find out about new books. Everyone spends their time screaming about them, reviewing them, tweeting about the newest releases. Everyone spends a whole lot of time hyping up books for you and shoving them down your throat. In a very nice and sweet and endearing way, obviously.

If it’s easy to find out about new books, it’s not that easy to read them all.
From a small Goodreads TBR of a little over 50 books back when I started blogging, to one of 306 books and growing, from buying one book to wanting to buy and pre-order everything…Blogging has changed a lot of things in my reading habits. Blogging has added TONS of incredible-looking books on my TBR as well.
Yet, if I wished I had unlimited time to read all of these glorious books, I just haven’t found a way to do so just yet. Other strange factors we didn’t even think about before we were blogging are coming, too, such as the TOO MUCH HYPE problem. There’s also the fact that money doesn’t grow on trees and books don’t show up by surprise in my mail.

So I made a small list. There are probably more books than that belonging here, because I am filled with shame. Feel free to throw tomatoes at me and tell me that I am cruelly missing out or failing as a reader. No. Seriously. Here is my list of…
Wildly popular (for the most part, I think?) YA books I can’t believe I haven’t read yet.
Please be gentle.
Yes. I’m doing this right, feel free to scream at me right away. EVERYONE has been hyping up this book and this series for ALL times, yet it’s here. Oops? I’m sorry? Please don’t hate me.Why I haven’t read this book just yet? To be honest? I think it’s the hype.
Red Rising is another incredibly popular book, one that I heard had fantastic world-building. I don’t know if I will ever read it, because I think it was a pretty violent book as well and…I’m still unsure about where I stand with dystopian books anymore. I’ll have to give this one a try? Maybe?
I have been really curious about this book ever since I first heard about it. I love the cover -shallow reason, sorry not sorry-, I like the synopsis and I heard it has beautiful writing. I don’t know why I haven’t read that yet, I have NO valid reason.
Okay, so… The Mortal Instruments and all of the aside series I can’t remember the name of right now, are WILDLY popular books. I remember reading City of Bones years and years ago and remember not picking up the rest of the series… I don’t know why, at the time. Now, I have a feeling I kind of lost interest in it overall.
I was a HUGE fan of the Wrath and the Dawn series, yet mixed reviews made me put reading Flame in the Mist off for… so, so long now. I am still really interested in reading it, though, and knowing whether I fall into the “hit” or “miss” category.
This book… I wouldn’t even know where to start, somehow? I feel like it was ALL OVER the blogosphere and that everyone but me, just like Six of Crows, have read this book. I read my first Laini Taylor book this year though and I’m curious to see what she can do and… yes, that one definitely will stay on the TBR no matter what.
I think A Monster Calls is one of the books I am the most ashamed of, on this list. I know it’d be a book for me, I know I could fall in love with it, yet I also know that it’s one of these books that will DESTROY me. I haven’t read it just yet because, somehow, I still don’t feel ready for it?
I loved Becky Albertalli’s debut, Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda. Her sophomore novel has been sitting on my TBR ever since I first heard about it and… I can’t think of any good excuse to explain why I haven’t read it yet. BUT I KNOW I WILL. It sounds fantastic and relatable and like my kind of book.
Fangirl has been recommended to me so, so many times and it sits on many of my friends’ favorites shelves. I just… I don’t know why I haven’t read that one yet, either. I bought other books instead, somehow. But I WILL READ IT.
The last book on this list is… an author, actually. I have been eyeing Anna-Marie McLemore’s books for a while now, falling in love with the synopsis of The Weight of Feathers and constantly adding her next books to my TBR without ever buying one. Someday I WILL buy them and read them all and.. .hopefully they will live up the hype I am building in my head.
I am sure there are more, more and more books I could add to this “not read but should have” TBR. If you’ll excuse me, I will go hide in a dark corner now.

Do we have any books we haven’t read in common? If yes, which ones? If not… which ones should I have read and bought already?? Let me know!
Is there any popular, or not so popular books you can’t believe you haven’t read, yet? Share them in comments!

You’re not alone! I’ve only read City of Bones and Fangirl. They were OK, I don’t think you’re missing out on too much with them. I own about 3 others you’ve mentioned, I just haven’t gotten around to them.
It’s crazy how many books we have or want to read, yet haven’t found the time to get to, right ? ? SO many books and so little time 🙂
I think I’ll skip on the mortal instruments series, but will definitely read fangirl at some point 🙂
Thank you for your sweet comment!! xx
Okay, so I am not going to scream at you to read Red Rising because I truly don’t think it’s a book that’s very you. HOWEVER, Six of Crows is something you should definitely give a shot. Especially, since you wanted to read more Fantasy this year. Also, READ FORKING A MONSTER CALLS RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!! This book is to die for and yes, it will destroy you, but only in all the best ways possible.
Don’t read the Mortal Instruments .. that’s kind of over? There’s loads more new and more interesting books in my opinion. And keep in mind, I am saying this as a person who has MULTIPLE copies of that series.
Lastly, I can see you loving Fangirl and The Upside.
Can’t say much about the others, but girl, you have your work cut out for you 😛
I was really impatient to hear your thoughts on that post, Kat, I was waiting for you to tell me everything I have to do with these books ? since, you know, you are my official… what did I say? book advisor? I can’t remember the word now, so let’s say it was that ?
THANK YOU for your recommendations on this, you know I’ll follow them. I had a feeling about Red Rising and I don’t think I will, but remind me that this year has to be the year I read all of the books you recommended, especially a monster calls and six of crows ?
THANK YOU!! <3 <3
I’ll take book advisor! It sounds more fitting than book sponsor 😉
And you’re welcome hahaha I can always only speak about the books that I have read, but you can be sure that I will remind you for those!
Ahhhh marrieeeeee!!!!! I have the same issue!!!! Obs City of Bones and Six of Crows are BRILLIANT AND YOU NEED TO READ THEM!!! And!! The Upside of Unrequited is adorable and I loveeeeed it — totally recommend it to you (as do I recommend fangirl). A monster Calls I wasn’t actually that fond of….? I knowwwwww. But I didn’t cry at the end and I just didn’t feel the emotion!!! I really want to read Red rising and also Strange the Dreamer!! I’ve got Strange the dreamer, and have actually had it for quite a while now, but just haven’t really got into it!!
I hope that you get around to reading these soon!
I think you’re the first person telling me you did not feel any big emotion in a monster calls?? well I’m glad to hear that, actually, you make me feel a bit less stressed out about reading it. even if I already know I will cry, haha.
I will read Six of Crows soon hopefully and need to read the upside, I’m sure it’s a book I would LOVE 😀
Thank you so much, Lu!! <3 <3
I expected to cry so much??? For the entire book I just couldn’t connect??? I think i felt emotion like.. once or twice???
OMGRBGHRDBGR SIX OF CROWS. SIX OF CROWS.
You’re welcome!!! <3 <3
Oh no, that’s too bad :/
I SWEAR I will get to SoC this year, I swear. You can remind me every two weeks to read it, if you want ??
OMG I WILL BE REMINDING YOUUUUUUUUUU
YES please do hahaha. I have the memory of a gold fish haha.
AHAHA I WILL!!
(read six of crows!!)
Hahahaha thank you for the reminder 😛
There will be many more along the way, don’t worry!!
I can’t wait for more 😛
READ SIX OF CROWSSSSSSSSSSSS MARIEEEEEEEEEEEEE
YOU ARE CRAZY hahaha but thank you for the reminder 😛
*gasp*!! IM NOT MAD!!
NO YOU ARE NOT, you’re the BEST <3
YAY I’M THE BEST!!! <3 <3 MWHAHA
😛 <3 <3 <3 <3
XD
I won’t scream at you I promise because i’ve only actually read 3 of these on your list. Fangirl for me was one, I wasn’t that big a fan off. I liked it, I thought it was alright but I ended up skipping most of the parts with Simon Snow? I don’t even know if thats the right name, it was pretty meh for me. Which is probably something that will make everyone want to kill me but I enjoyed Rainbow Rowell’s Landline alot more.
The Mortal Instruments is up their with Harry Potter for me, Clary and Jace are forever my favourites. It’s a series I remember binging years ago and still look up fanfic for today! Also six of crows. MARIE. YOU WILL LOVE IT.
Honestly sooo good.
Oh I’m sorry you didn’t love Fangirl! I feel like everyone I talk to on the blogosphere LOVED it to pieces, so I’m actually happy to hear there are exceptions, haha 🙂
I need to make reading six of crows a priority this year, then, everyone is telling me to read it ?
Thank you so much,Hannah!! <3 <3
I know what you mean, everyone does love it so I was like what didn’t I see?! I hope you do like it though!
I hope so too! 😀
Even I haven’t read any of these books except Fangirl and The Upside of the Unrequited…and of course I lost interest in the Mortal Instruments Series after reading the 1st 2 books and never got back to it again. Feeling so relieved that I am not the only one to have not read these books.☺️
Oh did you enjoy Fangirl and The Upside? 🙂
It is great to know we are not alone in not having read all of these very popular books, I’m feeling better already haha 🙂 thank you so much for your sweet comment! <3
I enjoyed those two books a lot. And they are pretty quick reads…so you should definitely give them a try.☺️
I am planning to read more Rainbow Rowell books this year.
I hope you have a good time reading those books ☺️☺️
Oh I will give them a try for sure as soon as I can, then, thank you so much! 😀
☺️☺️
I haven’t read Strange the Dreamer and A Monster’s Call… I haven’t even read Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda *hides* There are just too many books too catch up with, it’s impossible!
I know right?? There are way too many books to be read and it is so hard to know which ones we should be reading and which ones we should just stay away from.
I hope you will read Simon vs. someday though, it was such a cute book, I have a feeling you could love it! <3 <3
Thank you so much for your comment! <3 <3
I’ve read 4of those . Fan girl, city of bones, six of crows, and the upside of unrequited
Oh that’s great! Did you enjoy them all? 🙂
For the most part. The upside to unrequited was just okay for me though. Not bad but wasn’t a favorite .
Oh well that’s good to know 🙂 I’m sorry you didn’t love the upside, though, but glad it wasn’t horrible either, haha 🙂
I feel the same about A Monster Calls, I really do think that I will love it and there have been so many times I have almost picked it up but every time I get nervous because I think it’s going to be emotional so I need to be prepared! In terms of Six of Crows I put off reading it for ages too because of the hype but when I did read it I really enjoyed it (but don’t worry, take your time!) For me, I haven’t read some pretty popular series like the Percy Jackson series, the Lunar Chronicles and the Throne of Glass series. At the moment I’m not too interested in reading Throne of Glass but I got the Percy Jackson set for Christmas and am hoping to read that soon and I’ve recently started thinking I might want to read The Lunar Chronicles soon! I think it’s important to wait until you’re ready to read popular books! 🙂
AHHH I am so happy to hear that, I feel so weird always almost buying the book, then changing my mind because… I am scared of all the emotions ? Someday we will be ready for it, we will read it and hopefully fall in love with it 🙂
happy you enjoyed six of crows, I’ll have to read that one soon!
Oh I haven’t read the percy jackson series or throne of glass either, haha, but I did read the lunar chronicles and found the series incredible. But you’re so right, read it whenever we are ready. It’s not always great to rush into popular books, better wait for our expectations to go down a little bit 🙂
Thank you SO much for your sweet comment! <3
Definitely! Ooh that’s good to hear about the Lunar Chronicles, I think I’ll definitely try and read at least the first book sometime soon! No worries! 🙂
This makes me so happy 🙂 You’ll have to tell me if you enjoy the series 😀
Haha will do 🙂
okay i tried to be calm when writing this but sorry

ITS SO GOOD MARIE
and strange the dreamer features lazlo and he is my favourite hufflepuff
You are making very, very, very good points here and yes I swear I will read Six of Crows this year, I HAVE TO and feel free to remind me to do so every two weeks ? I just hope I will love it as much as everyone else haha.
OHH YES that would be GREAT, we’d have to plan that! I’ll let you know whenever I buy books next (not before february at least though) and we could plan a buddy read, that’d be AWESOME 😀
A hufflepuff, what where? Okay. I’m reading strange the dreamer soon too, you have a very convincing argument there ?
Also may I kindly ask to steal this idea for a blog post of my own? *crosses fingers*
Oh yes please do! I’m glad this inspired you, I can’t wait to read your own post!! 😀
I haven’t read most of the books on this list, but you have GOT to read Six of Crows (it’s honestly a perfect duology)…I mean, if you want to.
I only started The Lunar Chronicles last year, and I honestly can’t believe it took me so long.
I know I have to read this series and I hope to read it this year. I’ve been missing out for too long and I hope that it won’t disappoint me. Everyone loves this duology SO much haha 🙂
YAY! This makes me SO happy. I LOVED The Lunar Chronicles series so much <3
Thank you for stopping by!! <3 <3
I love A Monster Calls! Such an incredible book but it will break you. I loved The Upside of Unrequited!
I’m so glad you loved these books so much – I HAVE to read them soon 😀
Don’t worry, I’ve only read two books on your list: City of Bones and Fangirl. I really enjoyed both <3
Oh I’m so glad to hear it! I can’t wait to read Fangirl someday <3
I can TOTALLY relate!!! I haven’t read Six of Crows or Strange the Dreamer, but I feel like every other book blogger has!! I have read The Mortal Instruments, but it isn’t my favorite of Cassie’s. If you ever are interested in her writing, I would definitely recommend either The Infernal Devices or The Dark Artifices before TMI. Now Fangirl–that’s a different story. You need to read it!!! It’s so GOOD!!
Oh well you are not alone ahah, someday we will read these popular books and understand what all the hype is about 🙂
Oh thank you for the recommendations – and I will read Fangirl at some point for sure, I can’t WAIT to read that one, it sounds really good 🙂
thank you so much for stopping by! xx
“If it’s easy to find out about new books, it’s not that easy to read them all.” well, this sentence pretty much describes my entire life ? and don’t feel bad for not having read these books! If I were to make a post like this, people would be throwing books at me left and right because I haven’t read 95% of the super popular and hyped books and series! Am I ashamed? Yeah, sometimes (all the time).
But a lot of the time the hype is what puts me off from reading certain books. Especially because mostly all you will hear about a popular book is that it’s “SOOOO GOOD OMG I LOVE IT” but will people tell you what it’s actually about??? Umm, no. I still don’t know what The Raven Cycle is about but I bought all the books because it’s popular and people seem to love it. Probably a bad decision on my part but I have an obsession with buying books that I can’t control XD
And omg I haven’t read Fangirl either even though I’ve had it on my shelves for YEARS and I’ve been meaning to pick it up so many times but I’m scared to be let down? I feel like I’ll be able to relate to the protagonist a lot and that’s also what my friends keep telling me but I feel like my expectations are too high?? UGH HYPE IS THE WORST.
I SO understand your feeling here. I’m mostly resisting the book-buying thing because I’m trying to have a budget and just trying really hard, but… I’m constantly adding or wanting to add the books to my goodreads TBR just because everyone is talking about it and saying how good it is. CRAZY how this community has a massive influence on all of us, right?? ? ?
I’m with you on Fangirl, I feel like I could relate to that one a lot, yet… I’m a bit scared because of the hype haha. WE WILL READ IT someday and hopefully will love it 😀
Thank you, Jackie!! <3 <3
As always I’ve added another book to my wish list! The only thing is that it doesn’t come out til the 30th. I’m also on the third book of the Stephanie Perkins Series! I’m super excited to read it, as you said it’s your favorite. Also HOW HAVE YOU NOT READ A MONSTER CALLS!? Its so amazing. Please please please read it. Great post Marie xxx
Melina | http://www.ivefoundwaldo.com
Ohhh yay, that’s so great! I hope you’ll love Isla, you’ll have to tell me what you thought of it once you’re done 🙂
I will read it someday for sure, I need to be ready for all the emotions, but I WILL read it then 😀
Thank you so much, Melina!! xx
I’ll definitely let you know what I think 🙂 xx
I am surprised that there are five that I’ve read and you haven’t! (Upside, City of Bones, Fangirl, A Monster Calls, Six of Crows) I usually haven’t read the YA books people are hyping. I hope you get to them. They’re all good.
Ohh well.. maybe I am weird ? ? I am glad to hear you enjoyed all of these, I’ll have to read them then 🙂
thank you so much for your sweet comment! <3 <3
The only book I’ve read on this list is Fangirl, and I do love it a lot and constantly refer to it, but can see why one could easily forget to pick this book up. I recently got my hands on Anna-Marie McLemore’s When the Moon was Ours and I’m so so so excited!!! I think it’s like her second book after The Weight of Feathers, which I do need to pick up. And I haven’t read The Upside of Unrequited but I need to because I feel like it’s going to change my life (I mean, all books do, but… You know?)
Oh I am so glad you love Fangirl so much, I can’t wait to read that one someday 🙂
I hope you will love When the Moon was Ours, I heard amazing things about these books and the author 🙂
I know what you mean, there are some books you feel like… well, you feel like they will be the ones ahah 🙂 I hope you’ll read it soon and love it 😀
thank you so much for your sweet comment! <3
I haven’t read any of these books yet! Looks like you’re not alone haha. I want to read them, but there are just so many books and so little time!
Oh yes, I get that, so many books and so little time. It’s hard to know which books to prioritize ?
thank you so much for your comment! <3 <3
I have to read yet A Monster Calls and The Weight of Feathers, and I hope to read them, sooner or later! But I loved Fangirl and Red Rising, even if they really are different from one another, and I liked a lot Six of Crows, but I haven’t read the second one, yet… I hope to read it this year and to end the series! 🙂
Oh I’m so glad to hear you loved some of these books, I will have to read them soon 😀
Thank you so much for stopping by! I hope you’ll get to read A Monster Calls and The Weight of Feathers as well, both sound SO great 😀
DEFINITELY feel you on the WOW REALLY sentiment on not having read Red Rising and Strange The Dreamer yet. Like, how??? I’m surprised by myself because I’m always one for the hype. For me, Six of Crows was really worth it; I adored that duology and I know, I’m not helping right now by hyping it up even more, lmao. Sorry! I also have THIS with The Name of the Wind and The Night Circus. c:
Haha I get it ? Sometimes, we just have too many books to read and… we just forget about some books ?
I’m so happy you love Six of Crows, I will try and read it this year for sure, I can’t WAIT haha thank you 😀 And yees the night circus. It didn’t make this list but I have to read it, too. It’s been recommended to me SO many times ?
OMG, you really need to check out Six of Crows, Flame In the Mist and The Star Touched Queen. They’re sooooo good! I haven’t read Red Rising trilogy, and Strange The Dreamer ether but I’m planning to read them this year.
Ahhh I’m so glad to hear you loved these books so much, Raven 🙂 I hope to read them soon, then! Thank you! 🙂
Well, if it makes you feel any better at all, the only book I’ve read on your list is Fangirl. It’s an easy read so I recommend it if you want to read something you can breeze through. The rest of the books I’ve heard of and have considered reading, but it’s so hard because there’s so many books I want to read and it feels like I don’t have enough time to do it.
I think I will read Fangirl someday, it sounds like my kind of book 🙂
I understand the feeling, it is so hard to know which books we want to read fist and the ones to prioritize. I’d like to think that, somehow, we will manage to read all the books we really want to read haha 🙂
Thank you for stopping by! xx
It really is, especially when you find a book you want to read, but keep on hearing about other books that sound really good. So then your TBR pile just gets bigger.
YEES haha, it quickly gets overwhelming and we just don’t know what we are supposed to and what we want to read first ?
I haven’t read the Crow series either not A Flame In the Mist or The upside of unrequited. I don’t know if you feel better now LOL
Hahaha I DO feel better, thank you, I feel less alone now 😛
Oh there are so many books I haven’t gotten around to, some really popular ones out there as well, so you’re definitely not alone Marie. 🙂 I do have to say all the books on your list in this post are ones I have read, and most are ones I really loved as well! It took me a while to get around to The Upside of Unrequited but I really enjoyed it and I think you will as well, especially if you loved Simon Vs. I’m keeping my fingers tightly crossed you’ll love Anna-Marie McLemore’s books (she’s probably my favourite magical realism author). A Monster Calls destroyed me, and I really hope you get around to Six of Crows one day, but I can totally understand how the hype may be putting you off. It’s a brilliant book but there is a lot of hype for it out there.
Great post, and hopefully these will all be great reads for you, if you decide to pick them up in the case of the ones like Red Rising! 😀 <3
Ohh, that is high praise about Anna-Marie McLemore! I hope I will get to read her books sometime this year, then, I can’t wait to discover her beautiful writing and I hope I will love it as much as you do 🙂
Thank you so much, Beth! I hope I’ll be able to read most of these and love them as much as you did 😀
Six of Crows is a must. When it comes to fantasy it’s up there with the best. The pacing of the book has consisted and it never drags and you have a group of morally ambiguous characters that are so deep and complex, you will just want to hug them all. Basically, read it haha.
I can understand the reservations with Red Rising. I LOVE the first two book in the series but have yet to read the third book. It’s definitely an intimidating series and packs a lot of punches both physical and emotional.
I’ve not read Strange the Dreamer yet either. I can’t seem to shake myself out of this funk and I want to be able to fully engross myself in the book.
You have all the BEST arguments on Six of Crows hahaha, I promise I will try and read that book this year. I’m nervous to see what all the hype is about, I hope I’ll love it 🙂
Oh no, are you still feeling in a bit of a funk, when it comes to reading? :/ I hope this feeling will go away soon! <3<3
Thank you so much for your comment! <3 <3
Ok, you do HAVE to read Six of Crows ASAP. I don’t like The Mortal Instruments original series, but the Infernal Devices is amazing. I love the characters, it’s heartbreaking and so good.
I will read it, everyone is screaming at me to, now, hahaha. I’m a bit nervous, but I promise I will read it in 2018 haha 🙂
Oh that’s good to know – maybe I should turn to another series by the author, but not the city of bones series… I’ll have to think about it 🙂
thank you, Elizabeth!! xx
Hey Marie! You aren’t alone lol. The only one of these I’ve actually read is Six of Crows. It was good and I really enjoyed it!
Have you been getting much writing done?
Hi!! <3 Oh that's good to know, I will have to read Six of Crows this year for sure 🙂
I haven't been writing. I'm currently in the process of re-reading my WIP, which will probably take over a month, as I only re-read a little bit each weekend). I guess… it's okay so far haha. How about you? 😀
Yeah, my tbr has definitely swallowed a ridiculously high number of books since I started spending time in the book community. Terrifying phenomenon. ?
High five for Six of Crows, Stranger The Dreamer and well, all this book. ? I’m terrible with wildly popular books. I always read these books 32 years later. Though! I started The Infernal Device serie! ( the prequels of The Mortal Instruments ) There is less book, so it’s less scary. ?
I know right? We can’t help adding books to our TBRs, it’s INSANE. Worst thing is, we can’t seem to stop or find a cure for this craziness ??
I guess in a way, it’s good to read all of these books later – we have time to prepare for it and the hype dies down a little bit 🙂
Thank you so much for stopping by, Morgane! <3 <3
I’ve not read any of these either, I do own a bunch of them tho… oops
Hahaha, well it’s hard to resist when people are talking about these books… we want to buy them, but reading them… it takes a while ? I hope you’ll read some of these and love them 😀
thank you so much for stopping by! <3 <3
I haven’t read any of these, either!! I do plan on reading Six of Crows and Red Rising this year, though.
OH YAY, someone like me! I’m so happy you said that, Angela 🙂 Let’s hope we both manage to read these books this year and most importantly, that we end up loving them 🙂
thank you so much for stopping by! <3 <3
You’re not alone in this one. All of the listed books above are lying pathetically in my TBR but I haven’t spare them a glance because, well, just because ?
Sometimes, we just don’t even have excuses ? there are just too many books, I guess ?
I hope we’ll both get to read some of these books soon and will love them 😀 thank you so much for your comment, Rasya! <3 <3
I’ve only read Six of Crows and The Star-Touched Queen off this list! So you’re not alone when it comes to the others! Hahaha
Ohhhhh well I’m not doing so bad then, am I? ? That’s good to know haha. Did you enjoy Six of Crows and The Star-Touched Queen? 😀
Thank you so much for your comment, Flavia! <3
Nope! You’re definitely okay 😀 Hehehe.
And I loved both Six of Crows AND The Star-Touched Queen! 2 of my fave books now. I hope that you get to read them soon! <3
Oh that’s great to know, thank you! I hope I will read both this year then 😀
Haha truth here I have only read A Monster Calls, and I haven’t even heard of all those books.
Well I’m not doing so bad then ? I can’t remember if we already talked about A Monster Calls, did you enjoy the book? 😀
I can’t remember if we have talked about it either, but I loved it. It made me cry and that is not something that happens often. It made my top 5 this year…I am big pushed of that book haha
Oh wow, that’s high praise! I can’t wait to read it, even more knowing that it made you cry and you are not a big book crier. I know I will cry a river, knowing myself and how I cry at every little thing in books ??
It is worth it 🙂
I have a lot of books in common with you. To save space, the books I have read are City of Bones and Fangirl. I like them both, but I think it takes the right mindset to get used to Cassandra Clare’s writing style and Fangirl may only appeal to you if you yourself are a fangirl. One book on your list that I can’t believe I haven’t read yet is A Monster Calls. I’ve been intending to for a couple of months, but I haven’t gotten there yet.
Oh I’m just like you – I can’t believe I haven’t read A Monster Calls either. I think I’m not really ready for all the emotions, somehow? ? Let’s hope we both manage to get to it this year 😀
Thank you so much for stopping by, Carrie! <3
MARIE!!! YOU HAVENT READ SIX OF CROWS YET OH MY GOODNESS!!! THIS IS ME SCREMAING AT YOU!!
okay but seriously when you read it, you HAVE to update me on all YOUR THOUGHTS, IT’S CRUCIAL THAT YOU LOVE IT
I KNOW I FAIL AT EVERYTHING. I will have to read it this year, I promise I will and I will update you with all my thoughts and feelings (and hope that I love it?).
THANK YOUUU for stopping by and your sweet, slightly screaming yet amazing comment haha you’re the best!!<3
I also have yet to read Red Rising, The Star-Touched Queen (this one I actually have out from the library right now though, but haven’t read yet), Six of Crows (I want to read the grisha trilogy first, but I’ve only read Shadow and Bone so far, oops) and Flame in the Mist. A Monster Calls is amazing! I totally understand how you’re feeling, but you definitely need to read it!
A lot of my friends online have been obsessing about All For The Game, and I need to read them!
Ohh that’s great! You will have to let me know what you think of the Star-Touched Queen, I hope you will love it 😀
I hope to read A Monster Calls at some point this year, I know I will love it, I just need… to be ready for it ?
Thank you so much for your comment!! <3
I really loved the illustrations actually even though I’m not that big a fan of photos in books 🙂
Oh that’s great to know! The illustrations seem really beautiful 😀
You are definitely not alone! I’ve read Fangirl and really liked that, but like you I have only read City of Bones and have to finish that series. Red Rising and Six of Crows are also on my TBR.
OHh yay, that’s good to know haha, thank you, Lauren 🙂 I hope we’ll both read these books soon and will love them 😀
I HAVEN’T READ SIX OF CROWS EITHER!!!!! I feel so so so out of it! It’s been on my wishlist for so long! Same for Red Rising :p Looks like we are missing on big hyped up books together!
Same here, I am soooooo ashamed ? We need to read these books soon, just to figure out what all the hype is about ?
Ha, I’ve only read 2 of these! (City of Bones & Fangirl), but I own most of the others… They are all on my TBR though… eventually I’ll get to them… someday.
Someday, there are just so many books to read, right? ? Thank you so much for your comment! <3
I’ve read about three books on this list, and then all of the rest are on my TBR list too! I definitely feel like I should have read them by now though, and I even have copies of a couple (Strange the Dreamer and Flame In The Mist).
I have read Fangirl and Six of Crows though, and they are both pretty amazing! I was so glad when they lived up to the hype for me, because I think there’s always a chance you’re going to be disappointed when so many people have raved about a book. I also read the first Mortal Instruments book a while back because they’re so popular, but then I never read anymore. I just didn’t enjoy the book all that much, but didn’t want to say it because everyone seems to love them so much!
Great post, and best of luck reading all of these! I hope you enjoy them 🙂
Oh I am so happy to hear that Fangirl and Six of Crows lived up to the hype for you. I agree, when so many people are loving a book, it is hard NOT to feel some kind of pressure to love them as well. It’s probably the reason why I haven’t read these just yet ?
Thank you so, so much for your sweet comment, I hope you’ll enjoy the books you haven’t read yet as well 😀
I have only read 4 of those. SoC was amazing. Believe the hype. The WLABBers bonded over their love of TMI, so I had to read them (and I am a fan of all three series). Upside was adorable. Albertalli can write incredible characters, and the same goes for Rainbow Rowell. As a character driven reader, I will always read their books. I just read my first McLemore book this past summer, Wild Beauty, and I must say, her writing is exquisite. I literally have The Weight of Feathers staring me in the face, but the print is too small for me to read. *sad face* I hope you get to some of these.
Okay… you are making me want to read ALL THE BOOKS now, thank you haha. I will read SoC this year for sure, I’m a bit nervous because of all the hype but I know I have to get to it. I hope I’ll love it 🙂
And YES I am all for adorable books so I can’t wait to read Upside 🙂
Thank you so much!! <3
YOU HAVEN’T READ SIX OF CROWS
READ IT, YOU WON’T BE DISAPPOINTED
plus fangirl, i only read it last year and it was amazing soooo you really have to read it 🙂
I KNOW I AM FAILING ? I will have to read these books soon then 😀
thank you so much for stopping by!! <3
You’re definitely not alone! The only one I’ve actually read is City of Bones and it’s actually the series that got me into reading in the first place so, it’ll always hold a special place in my heart. Have you read Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo? Even though I’m a huge fan of Fantasy, I was afraid to pick it up because of all the hype. I did though and I was actually pleasantly surprised! I’ve had Six of Crows on my shelves for a while but, I really want to finish the Grisha Trilogy first, before moving on to the duology! Thank you for sharing! Hope you have a wonderful week!
Elena @ Book Lady’s Reviews
I haven’t read…. anything by Leigh Bardugo so far. I know, I am such a failure hahaha. I am so glad to hear you were surprised by Shadow and Bone! I’ll have to read some of her books at some points, I hope I’ll love them as much as you 🙂
Thank you so, so much for stopping by! <3 <3
Haha Marie, you are my soul sister 😀 I haven’t read any single of them either 😛 I guess we both need to hide somewhere?
There are many many many.. other popular books that I can add to my list like The Hunger Games, ACOTAR series and yes HP series.. well I don’t actually want to think about them 😀 Let’s just hide them in the corner.
AHHHHH this makes me so happy I’m not alone hahaha, yes we are soul sisters 😛 We need to make a resolution together, then, read a least a couple books on this list before the end of the year 😛
You haven’t read The Hunger Games or Harry Potter? I hope you’ll read both at some point, they’re incredible and worth the read <3 <3
Haha yes.. we should definitely ?
Well no.. HP is definitely on my list for this year.. But I am seen all the movies for HO and Hunger games. I know, I should read them anyways. I will, definitely ?
YES YES, do read all the books even if you saw the movies. They’re worth it 😛
hehe I love that you made this list a) cos I can tell you how much you have to look forward to and b) cos I can commiserate about the ones I haven’t read either (relate to your reasons why as well- book hype is SCARY and the sadly books just don’t turn up at my door all the time 😉 ) I took ages to get to Six of Crows to be honest- but it ended up being SO WORTH IT! Definitely recommend! And as pains me as it is for me to say this, Red Rising is one of my favourite series after all, I can see why it might not be for you- don’t feel pressured to read it. Ah I’ve not read star touched queen yet either. Honestly, I’ve lost interest in Mortal Instruments over time so I don’t blame you (gawd I wish I had the strength to stop reading all those books tbh) I don’t know why I’ve not read Flame in the mist and I *really* don’t know why I’ve not read Strange the Dreamer either. And Monster Calls is AMAZING- definitely recommend! I still need to read Simon vs the homosapiens to be fair 😉 Such an awesome list!
I’m so glad that SoC ended up being worth it! I really hope I’ll feel the same way whenever I get around to reading it. THIS YEAR I will haha it’s a promise.
It’s funny how, sometimes, we just have no valid reason for not having read some books just yet. Maybe there are just too many books to read, that’s our actual excuse, hahaha.
Thank you so, so much!! <3 <3
hehehe I hope so too 😉
hehe yes!! I totally get that lol- I think that’s the problem 😉
You’re welcome!! <3 <3
I would definitely read Fangirl! It’s very cute and good 🙂 I haven’t read any of the others though so I guess we’re in the same boat 😛
Yay, welcome abroad my little boat haha, I’m so happy I’m not alone 🙂
Glad to hear you loved Fangirl – it seems like my kind of book somehow, I hope I’ll be able to read it soon 🙂
Thank you so much! xx
I hope you will too!
Don’t worry, I only read Strange the Dreamer. Laini Taylor is one of my favourite writers and I absolutely loved her newest book! Other books that are not on your list, but I (still) haven’t read are A Darker Shade of Magic and Throne of Glass. I am quite curious about Six of Crows and A Darker Shade of Magic, but also a little afraid I won’t like them…
Oh I’m so glad to hear you love Laini Taylor so much 🙂 I read Daughter of Smoke and Bone so far and have a feeling I will have to read more of her books 🙂
Ohhh, I hope you will read A Darker Shade of Magic soon, I loved this series so much. I was afraid I wouldn’t love it, given that I am not normally such a fantasy fan, but… the world-building was absolutely stunning. I hope you’ll give it a chance 😀
Thank you so much for stopping by! 😀
Omg, I haven’t read ANY of these books! Not for lack of want though, but it’s not my fault I swear. It’s just that it seems YA books are 75% stocked as hardbacks at the bookstore which I simply can’t justify the nearly double-cost for on my tiny book budget ? So that leaves me with the lesser known titles I’ve never even see mentioned on the blogosphere. Oh well, I keep hoping I’ll find hidden gems that way!
Oh no! That’s annoying :/ I get it though, we can’t have unlimited book budgets (unfortunately… if only we could get all the books haha, that would be GREAT). And you’re right, you can find hidden gems in older releases or lesser known titles, too 😀
Thank you so much for your comment, Rebeccah! 😀
I winced at a couple of these Marie, JK LOL! Six Of Crows is definitely worth the hype though, the characters really are like none other. Red Rising renewed my love for dystopia at a time where I had just about given it up. Also, not sure why It continues to get labeled YA when it is definitely a adult scifi novel which is probably why the violence is a bit more graphic but tolerable for me. A Monster Call def broke me lol && Upside was such a FEEL GOOD book that maybe reading it after A Monster Calls would’ve been a better idea. I still haven’t read Strange the Dreamer but I have a good reason…or at least to me it is lol…Laini is one of my top 3 fave authors in YA & I’ve waited what feels like forever and a day to get another book by her. I can’t start Strange the Dreamer til we’re at least closer to the sequel cause I just can’t do it to myself *sobs* Two other popular books I haven’t read but fully intend to are Nevernight & The Name of the Wind *fingers crossed* great post! 🙂
Hahaha yes please do wince, it’s a reaction I was expecting 😛
I have to admit, yes, I heard that Red Rising was a bit more of an adult sci-fi with graphic violence, which is why I haven’t read it yet… and maybe probably won’t. I don’t know if that would be a book for me because of that :/
I can’t wait to read both A Monster Calls and Upside, they sound incredible, but… you’re right, I’ll keep Upside for when I need to smile and have a feel-good book hahaha 😛
Hahaha I get it. It’s TOO HARD sometimes, reading a fabulous book and having to wait AGES for the sequel haha.
Thank you so much for your comment, Lilly! <3 <3
I hope you enjoy Upside, it’s def a feel good book . & I understand, in regards to Red Rising it definitely won’t be for everyone. Happy reading Marie! <3 <3 <3
Thank you so much!! <3 <3
You’re welcome ???
AH i can’t believe you haven’t read Six of Crows yet. It’s okay though, I can’t really judge because the only other book on your list I read was the Upside of Unrequited (which I also loved!) A lot of these books are on my to read list, like Strange the Dreamer. I have to say I’m not ever really planning to read City of Bones, I’ve heard mixed reviews on it and don’t think it breaks out of the dystopian tropes enough to enjoy it. Great list!
Haha don’t worry,I can’t believe I haven’t read it, either, haha. I feel a bit ashamed. I will get to it this year though, I can’t WAIT. I’m also eager to read the Upside, it sounds like my kind of book <3
Thank you so, so much for your comment, Sydney! <3 <3
I’m reading city of bones right now and I’m super late in the game but it’s one of my favorite books already. The characters, the plot, it’s all really amazing. <3 <3 love this post!!!
Oh I’m so glad to hear you’re loving it 😀
Thank you so much for stopping by! <3
Welp..I feel ridiculous and maybe I should be ashamed?! I haven’t read a single one of these yet!!!!!
Hahaha well you can be ashamed with me then 😛 and there are so many books… we can’t expect to read them all now, can we 😛
Some of your not-read-yet books are still on my TBR as well, Marie – and I have read some others.
Strange the Dreamer is one I really want to read, and I own it… I just haven’t gotten around to it yet.
I still haven’t read Simon vs… but I have read The Upside of Unrequited.
I agree – there are just SO many incredible-looking books out there. And we only have the same amount of hours in a day as everyone else (unfortunately!) so it’s impossible to get to them all at once.
Blogging has expanded my reading horizons in ways I would have never imagined. And I love that the same is the case for you!
Oh, what did you think of The Upside? 🙂 I LOVED Simon so, so much, I hope you will read it soon and will love it 🙂 <3
It's so hard, seeing all of these books and wanting to read them all, but we only have so little time in one day to read… we can't do everything, I guess, haha 🙂 I LOVE that so so much, how blogging broadened my horizons. It's one of the best things about blogging for sure 🙂
Thank you so, so much for your sweet comment, Lexxie! <3 <3
I haven’t read anything but Strange The Dreamer and A Monster Calls. I honestly don’t want to read Six Of Crows or Mortal Instruments, too overhyped for me, I guess. Fangirl has been on my TBR for a while, but I don’t know when I’ll read it.
Strange The Dreamer is more beautiful than it’s cover. It’s… Unconveyable except by reading, which you definitely should, especially if you’re in a world-built, fantasy mood.
A Monster Calls is surreal, so the tragedy is both set at a distance and brought close at the same time. An exploratory mood is good, but if you’re feeling really sad, maybe not.
OH I get it, the hype can be a bit of a turn-off sometimes. As long as you read the books you really want to read, that’s what matters 🙂
Wow, you are making a strong case for Strange the Dreamer here! I hope I can read this book this year, it sounds fantastic and quite unforgettable 🙂
I need to read A Monster Calls, but… when I’m in the mood for it, since it’s a very sad book, haha 🙂
Thank you so, so much for your sweet comment <3 <3
I hate to be redundant but Six of Crows? READ IT! Although I also own Crooked Kingdom and haven’t picked it up since I bpught it. Why? Six of Crows took a lot out of me. It was FAB but dark and brooding too, you know? Strange the Dreamer was amazing. And Amazingly weird? For me I was enthralled with her writing but not the story. I have read all of Cassandra Clare’s novels (not the short stories though) and really like them. That first series is probably my least favorite but you have to have read them for the history in tye reat of the novels. The most current series has been her best writing yet and has the most diverse cast of characters, so catch up so we can discuss! I own a Star Touched Queen and haven’t read it yet. Don’t purchase it! I’ll send mine to you when I’m done. Maybe we can write a duo review? Could be fun. I am too old for Fangirling I think. I don’t Fangirl over anything! Lol. A Monster Calls? How have I not heard of this one! From everyones raves I must be living under a rock. Going to look it up right now. I too want to copy this post. What a great idea!!! Thanks Marie!
Hahaha I KNOW I AM SUCH A FAILURE, I am ashamed. I will read Six of Crows this year, feel free to remind me to every two weeks if you have to! I WILL READ IT. And… it’s good, in a way, when a book just has such an impact on you. Maybe if I get to read SoC soon, we can buddy-read Crooked Kingdom 😀
That’s what I understood about Clare’s novels – I heard that The Infernal Devices series is much better, though. I’ll have to give it some thought before getting into her books 🙂
And what? You’re WAY too sweet, you do know that you would have to ship the book all the way to France? This is WAY too sweet of you <3 <3 I'd love to do a duo review of some kind, it could be so much fun 😀
Oh please write a post like this on your blog, I would LOVE to see your own list of books!
Thank you so, SO much for your sweet comment! <3 <3 <3
I don’t mind mailing a book to France! It would be totally fun to do a duo review. That means I actually have to read it! Lol
You are WAY too sweet ? That would be amazing and it would be so much fun to do a review together. And YES you have to read this book now haha 😀
Dude, if you were bored by City of Bones, please do yourself a favor and skip the rest. I, for some inexplicable reason, forced myself to continue even though I was over it by book 3, and ughhh. If I could get those hours back! I was on the fence about Red Rising too, then (again) forced myself, and YEP, another terrible idea. Upside of Unrequited and Strange the Dreamer were both really good. And A Monster Calls, too! Six of Crows and TSTQ were both good enough, but underwhelming for me when compared to the hype. As for the others… I am right there in failure with you! Especially your reason for Flame in the Mist, I am scared too!
OH damn :/ I’m sorry the City of Bones series didn’t get any better for you. to be honest, I don’t know if I’ll ever continue on with it. I’m sorry Red Rising wasn’t for you, either! I have heard lots of great things about the series, but I’m not sure it’d be for me.
SO glad you loved The Upside and Strange The Dreamer! The hype is so scary, it’s bothering when the book doesn’t live up to it :/
We’ll have to read flame in the mist this year and keep our fingers crossed that we love it then 🙂
Thank you so, so much for your comment, Shannon! <3
I haven’t read Six of Crows either!! I think I’ll like it!? It sounds good? But yet?? To be fair, it’s not in the library, and so I haven’t got around to buying it yet. Maybe one day, let’s see. But Marie GURL you will 95% LOVE Fangirl and The Weight of Feathers and Upside and while Strange The Dreamer isn’t exactly your thing it’s really beautiful and SO week written OMG yesssss. I kind of DNF’d The Star Touched Queen, but I want to try again because I own it. And like you, I’ve totally lost interest in the Mortal Instruments series, even though so many people love it, haha. Great post!
I am so nervous about Six of Crows haha but I WILL READ IT someday, I swear I will. We’ll have to read it / talk about it together once we finally get around to it 🙂
I have a feeling Fangirl and The Weight of Feathers would be books for me, I can’t WAIT to read them 🙂
Thank you so much, Shar! xx
Six of Crows and The Mortal Instruments and Flame in the Mist! TMI is just.. because of Jace really. I love that guy, cannot help it. It’s been ages since I read those books though…
As for books you mention that I haven’t read yet either.. Oh boy.
All others? But the ones I actually OWN already: The Upside of Unrequited, Fangirl. That’s it.
Really interested in Red Rising though. People keep saying I’ll love those books.. But I should really read more off my TBR before adding to it.. Like, I really should..
I will read SoC this year, I HAVE TO. I swear I will haha 🙂
I hope we’ll both read Fangirl and The Upside, both sounds like such fun, uplifting books with great characters 😀
Haha I get the feeling… it’s hard NOT to add books to our TBRs, though. Impossible, even 😛
Yes you have to! Haha, indeed they do. I’ve heard great things about both those books already so I definitely need to dive into those. Won’t be soon though. I’ve been reading so much contemporary lately, that I’m definitely ready for my fantasy-month to begin. :’)
Yup! Although I think I’ve been behaving so far.. I think.. I don’t even want to check right now because I’ll end up being wrong. :’)
But… contemporary is GREAT, read all the contemporaries 😛
They’re great but they also tend to RIP ME TO PIECES. I need some fantasy-glue before I break all over again.. 😛
Hahaha, I get that 😛
Ahhh you’ve gotta read Upside, A Monster Calls, SOC and Strange the Dreamer!!!! All of them are some of my all time favourites ? I can definitely see you loving Upside if you enjoyed Simon. I wasn’t the biggest fan of Star Touched, but the writing IS beautiful. You’re not alone with not having read some of these either because there’s quiet a few on this list I haven’t read either!! I have the same thoughts when it comes to The Mortal Instruments too. I want to continue this series because like the whole world has, but I also just don’t really care ?
I’m so happy to hear that, Lauren! I will definitely read SoC this year and… hopefully all of the others, too. I feel like the Upside could be one of these books that just… fits, with me, somehow? like I could fall in love with it 🙂
?? I kind of feel the same way? I’m curious about the series, yet… I don’t know if I really want to take the time to read it? ??
Thank you so much for your comment, Lauren! xx
There are so many books that I haven’t read that that so many people have read. You’re not alone in a lot of these books. I haven’t read Six of Crows, Red Rising, The Star-Touched Queen, or Flame in the Mist either! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND READING A MONSTER CALLS!!!
AHHH I will read A Monster Calls soon then. Need to get ready for all the feels, but it sounds amazing ? and let’s make 2018 the year we finally read SoC 😀
Thank you, Ashley! 😀
I so feel you on most of these. Six of Crows, Strange the Dreamer, Flame in the Mist, Red Rising…all books I’ve been meaning to read but just haven’t yet.
…you really should read Fangirl, though. 😉
Let’s hope we manage to read these books soon and most importantly, that we love them 😀
Ahah thank you for the recommendation! I hope I’ll get to read Fangirl soon, then, it sounds like my kind of book 😀
I’m with you in Flame in the Mist, Strange the Dreamer and Red Rising. I just ALWAYS get distracted by other books and end up not getting them haha. Oh the struggle!
There are too many books being released and just… WAY too many books to distract us ? I guess if it’s meant to be, we will read these books… eventually ?
Thank you so much for stopping by, twinnie! <3 <3
MARIEEEE IT’S BEEN SO LONG SINCE I’VE BEEN TO YOUR BLOG AND I’M ASHAMED BECAUSE I MISSED YOUR POSTS SO MUCH. <3 <3 *showers you with hugs and cookies*
But Marie!! How! Could! You! Not! Read! Six of Crows!! *chases after you menacingly* ? I'm sure you must've gotten tons of people who've told you to read it by now but seriously it is amazing.
Oh and Red Rising! SUCH a good series, gosh, and I'm not a fan of dystopians anymore much either! Buuuuut it IS super violent. (BUT STILL SO GOOD.)
I really loved all of the books on here pretty much, though I haven't read Strange the Dreamer either! Maybe we could buddy read it sometime (once I/we stop procrastinating on it…), everyone says such amazing things about it. But And Fangirl! The Upside of Unrequited! They are absolutely adorable and I KNOW you will enjoy them, okay, Marie GO READ THEM. ?
Loved this post!
AWWWW you always are spoiling me with your sweet comments and love, Analee, you’re the sweetest!! <3 <3
I know I fail at life here ? I will read SoC soon I PROMISE.
Ohhh a buddy read of Strange the Dreamer could be amazing, I'd love that, yes 😀
Thank you so, so much!!<3 <3
Nooo don’t sit in a dark corner.? I think it’s impossible to keep up with all the new books!! I work REALLY hard at it and then always end up reading someone’s blog and going “holy heck how have I not read that book yet.”? I haven’t gotten to Flame in the Mist either and tbh I’m not enthused. I saw too many negative reviews. And I won’t absolutely screamingly rave over Six of Crows, Simon Vs, Strange the Dreamer, Fangirl, and A Monster Calls but *whispers* they’re super good.??
Oh and if it helps Red Rising is really more of a sci-fi than fantasy. But it IS super violent. Just to warn you!
I will read all of these books soon, I promise I will do my best to ?
It is a bit crazy and overwhelming, at times. There are SO many books everywhere we want to read and not enough hours each day to get through them all??
Thank you so much for the heads-up, that helps A lot. I don’t really do well with really violent books, so I think I’ll stay away from that one haha 🙂
OMG! We are on the same page. I have not read Soc, STD, Flame in the mist and red rising either XD from your list, I only have read Fan girl 😀
YAY I’m not alone haha, thank you for saying that 😛 I hope we will be able to read these books and most importantly, love them, soon 😀
Oh what did you think of Fangirl? 😀
I like it but not my type of story. I love Eliza and Her Monster better ✨✨
OHHHHHH that is great to know. I recently got Eliza and Her Monsters and I can’t wait to read it 😀
Happy reading Marie ??
Thank you so much! <3 <3
A Monster Calls and Red Rising are indeed incredible so I hope you love them as much as I did. Just have heart band-aids handy when you read A Monster Calls! It shred my heart to pieces! I was literally sobbing at the end.
So glad to hear you loved both of these books! I know. I am ready for all the emotions with A Monster Calls, I will prepare a gigantic box of tissues, just in case ? Kidding. I KNOW I will need it by the end of this book ?
Thank you so much for your comment! <3
You have some great books on this list but I’m sure you know that ?! I have so many books to read that I’m in no position to judge ?.
The endless TBR.. probably the biggest of our problem as bookworms ??
Thank you so much! 😀
HAHH I NEED TO READ RED RISING ?? Iron Gold jsut came out man !! THERE HAVE BEEN 4 BOOKS ALREADY . Absolutely LOVE LOVE THIS POST MARIE ❤️❤️ Reminds me how many books I havent read yet .. 🙁
Oh I’d love to know what you think of the Red Rising series! 🙂
I KNOW RIGHT?? ? There are way too many books to be read? What will we DO??? ?
My TBR list makes me feel as if I qualify to be part of the literary community. The slow pace of reducing it makes me feel irresponsible to a certain extent.
Well… I don’t think there is a certain amount that you should or should not have on your TBR to “qualify” as a book blogger or as being part of a community! You do you 🙂
No worries Marie! I haven’t read most of these books on your list as well. And I’m sure there are plenty of other books that you’ve read that I haven’t read yet haha 🙂 I would highly recommend The Upside – it is such a cute and fast read, I promise that once you start, you won’t be able to stop! I finished (the audiobook, actually) in 2 day haha :’) I also really really loved Fangirl! I recently read Strange the Dreamer and I think I like it better than Laini Taylor’s other series 🙂 Hope that you will get around to these books one day and love them as much as I did <3
OH I am 99% sure I will love The Upside, I just need to get around to reading it, ahah. It sounds so great and cute <3
Thank you so much!! <3
Haha, through reading this I was like MARIE WHAT REALLY?! But actually, on reflection, I’m excited for you. You have some seriously fantastic reads ahead of you! I’m sure other people have said this already, but Fangirl would be a great starting place. It’s a romantic contemporary about fan culture and a shy girl figuring out her place in the world – it is so your kind of book!
Ohhh I’m so happy to hear that haha, I hope to read all of these books- or at least some of them, let’s not get carried away haha – this year. I can’t wait to read Fangirl, it does sound like my kind of book 🙂
Thank you so much!<3 <3
I absolutely love this post, Marie ?
There are so many books on this list that I too haven’t read yet! I have Six of Crows, Red Rising, The Star Touched Queen, Strange The Dreamer & Flame of Mist on my TBR.
A Monster Calls is good but it wasn’t nearly as emotional as I thought it would be or wanted it to be. The Upside of Unrequited is absolutely amazing! The anxiety representation is just so perfect and amazing and it is one of my absolute favourite books. I also really enjoyed Fangirl, it was really good and if you’re a Drarry shipper then this will be the perfect read for you Marie xx
I hope you enjoy all these books ?
Oh thank you so much, Michelle! I’m glad we have many books we haven’t read in common on here! Let’s hope we get around to these soon 😀
Thank you for the recommendations! I feel like I will cry while reading A Monster Calls, but I’m very emotional with books hahaha 🙂 and The Upside sounds amazing!! I can’t wait to read it 🙂
Thank you! <3 <3
I’m also SO emotional when it comes to books! It’s definitely a sad read, I think I just struggled to form a connection with the characters!
Also Becky is releasing two more books this year and I cannot wait to get my hands on them ?
OH YES, I can’t wait to read her new books either, I’m sure they will be fantastic 😀
I haven’t read City of Bones either and don’t plan to do so. Now, go read Fangirl and Upside, please.
Hahaha okay, I will try to read both of these as soon as I can 😛
Thank you for your comment! <3
Don’t worry I’ll join you with Six of Crows and Strange the Dreamer, because I haven’t read them either ? I probably won’t get around to the latter for a long while, because I don’t own the book and want to read Daughter of Smoke and Bone first, but with Six of Crows I’m determined 😀
A Monster Calls is going to make you feel all the feels for sure ? The Star-Touched Queen is so beautiful, not only the writing, but literally everything else, I love this book so much ?
WELL LET’S BE DETERMINED TOGETHER? 😀 I want to read Six of Crows at some point this year, I HAVE TO haha 🙂
I’m so glad you love the star-touched queen, I’ve been hearing some mixed reviews about that one, but I’m still excited to read it 🙂
thank you so much, Caro!! <3
YES ABSOLUTELY 😀 This is one of my goals as well: I must read Six of Crows this year, no more delays 😀
I initially heard those mixed reviews as well, but for me personally the book and its writing style really worked well 🙂
? ? ?
Well, we can remind each other to read this book this year, then, haha 😀
We have to do that 😀
YES we do, we will then 😀
READ SIX OF CROWS READ SIX OF CROWS READ SIX OF CROWS. You have to drop everything and read it RIGHT NOW, Marie. I love that book too much to not scream at you for not reading it, damn it ?
Now that that’s over, a lot of these books are books I haven’t read either? City of Bones I read as well (and did not like) but honestly I just want to skip over TMI & TID, and go straight for TDA. ? I meant to read Upside a long time ago, but I didn’t! I don’t want to read Flame in the Mist bc of all those mixed reviews, but at the same time… Asian rep?? And oh, I’m 100% sure you will love Anna-Marie’s books! I feel like her books will totally play to your tastes. ?
Hahaha well, scream at me all you want ? I WILL Read it at some point this year, I SWEAR I WILL do my best to! ? the pressure IS real hahaha.
Aww I’m glad to hear you say that, I feel like Anna-Marie’s books could be such a right fit for me. I can’t wait to read them 😀
Thank you!!! <3
I share all but FITM so I can totally relate – I didn’t start blogging until some were already so hard to get and now there are always new ones! So I’m totally here with ya!
Right?? There are ALWAYS new books, what should we read? It’s such a struggle haha.
Thank you so much for your comment!! <3
The struggle is real! ??
Through blogging my TBR has seriously become endless, I have books that I want to read/buy at all times. So keeping up with that and reading all the books is impossible (I really don’t have that much free time), so I completely get why you couldn’t get to these books. I have a ton that I should have read years ago as well! 😀
Well, I highly recommend Six of Crowns, The Star-Touched Queen and A Monster Calls. They are all some of my all time favourite books and I would love to know your opinion on them (whenever you actually end up reading them that is).
I haven’t read either Red Rising or Fangirl, even thought I have had them on my TBR for ages. I even own Fangirl, but have yet to pick it up. Also, I haven’t even read anything by Renee Ahdieh yet and I have wanted to read The Wrath and the Dawn since I heard that it was going to be released… 😀
Ohh thank you so much for the recommendations, I will definitely read these three soon, I have a feeling I could love The Star Touched Queen and A Monster Calls.. as for Six of Crows, I just have to read it and see what the fuss is all about, hahaha 🙂
It is so, so hard to keep up with our TBRs and to know which books we should pick up… there are just TOO many to choose from haha 🙂
thank you so much, Anna! 😀
MARIE YOU MUST READ THE UPSIDE OF UNREQUITED I KNOW YOU’LL LOVE IT. But I know there are about 2463158 other books out there calling your attention so I get that you haven’t gotten around to it yet haha
I feel you on Six of Crows – it’s why I didn’t pick it up until last year but I don’t regret it – it really did live up to the hype 😀 I hope it will for you as well! Fangirl is also great but I haven’t read the others haha. I
feel the same way about A Monster Calls. I absolutely love Patrick Ness, but I know it will rip my heart out into a billion pieces and then stomp on it, so yeah not ready haha
I know it’s probably not like that, but I feel like some bloggers are just always so on top of everything? Like they’ve read and are reading everything?? HOW. They need to teach us their ways
OKAY I WILL soon I promise haha, the upside sounds like the kind of book I could LOVE, so I’ll try to get to it as soon as I can <3 I'm glad that Six of Crows was worth it for you as well! <3
I don't know if I'll ever be ready for A Monster Calls ? But… SOMEDAY we will read it ?
I know, right ? some bloggers have read EVERYTHING, I don't understand HOW they do it ?
I’ve only read two of these, Fangirl and Strange the Dreamer. Strange the Dreamer has a hefty case of instalove, but if that doesn’t bother you the WB is of course excellent. I can see why you MUST keep it on your list!
Fangirl was my FAVORITE book the year it came out. I love awkward girls so that’s no surprise. She is clueless about copyright too! And its set in college! Which is different.
As for Six of Crows (shhhhhhhhhhh, don’t tell anyone, I’m glad I comment late on your posts so no one will see) I tried it and yeah, not a fan… not a fan at all. I’m not sure why people like Kaz either. My writing partner read it before me and warned me I would HATE it… I tried anyway cause of the hype and now I’m doomed to hell because I dnfed it was so bad!
I sincerely hope you don’t hate any book you read Marie. I am blessed to go to a library and wouldn’t want anyone who has to buy all their books to regret. <3
OH I’ll have to think about Strange the dreamer, I’m really curious to read more of this author’s work about about the world-building. AND YES I’ll have to read Fangirl soon then, it sounds like my kind of book <3 <3
Well… It is refreshing to see not everyone loved Six of Crows, haha, takes a bit of the pressure off, thank you 😛
Thank you so much for your sweet comment, Dani!! <3 <3 <3
I haven’t read any of these either excepting the Mortal Instruments DD: These are some I have really been meaning to get around to for a while. Actually, top of my I’ve-been-meaning-to-get-to-it list has to be The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater…
YAY, I am not the only one not reading some popular books ? That makes me feel better haha thank you 😛
OHHH, you should read The Raven Boys soon – whenever you get the chance to! I read it because everyone kept telling me to, and did not regret it. I loved the world, the writing and the characters were incredible 🙂
Thank you so much for your comment! <3
Okay, phew!! I have 5 of them from your list and is currently reading The Upside of Unrequited. 😀 But I am on the same wagon as you when it comes to Six of Crows but I am fully prepared to read it this year!!!!
Ohhh I hope you’ll enjoy The Upside, I heard great things about this book 😀
SAME, we will finally read this book this year, it’s a promise 😛
Thank you so much for your sweet comment! <3 <3
I’m reading it right now and loooving it so far! 🙂
Haha.. YEEES!! <3
YAY so happy to hear it 😀
I can say I’ve at least read one of the books you mentioned here – Six of Crows (I LOOOOVED it!). The only other one I’m interested in reading is The Upside Down of Unrequited.
But I feel your pain when you say you’ve now got 300+ books on your Goodreads TBR thanks to blogging. Mine is now 100+ when before being exposed to the online book community, it was probably like ten or something hahaha
YAY that’s great! I’ll have to read Six of Crows soon ahah, happy you loved it 😀
On the one hand, it’s amazing, because we have so many books to choose from! On the other hand… well, we just have SO MANY BOOKS hahahahaha it’s endless 😛
Thank you so much, Bridget! xx
Me checking this list while thinking about what books we can buddy-read in the future because let’s be honest, I have many of these on my list too. BUUUT I have read Six of Crows and Fangirl and A Monster Calls and City of Bones (though this one was a total miss for me). I’m so disappointed with you for not reading A Monster Calls yet because it’s such a Marie book, how have you not??? I’m going to talk more about it on my blog from now on, so I can get you to read it, hmm. Also, Fangirl and Six of Crows are amazing too, and you should totally read them. Read SoC and come buddy-read Crooked Kingdom with me because I’ve been postponing reading this book for soooo long.
I know why I haven’t read A Monster Calls yet: because I will cry like a baby and I AM NOT READY for all of these feels?!! I will read it at some point, I know I have to and I know I will love it, I am just scaaaaared okay haha.
OH THAT WOULD BE AMAZING??? Let’s plan that sometime!!! <3
I’ve only read a few of these (Fangirl—which I loved. Star-Touched—I wasn’t a fan. And Upside—really liked it). So I still need to catch up too!
Oh yay I’m glad I’m not the only one there ahah 🙂 I can’t wait to read Fangirl and Upside, both sounds so amazing 🙂 x
Thank you so much for your sweet comment! x
