Watched and LOVED the Red, White & Royal Blue movie? Adored the book even more? I got you with these lovely recs, perfect if you’re just obsessed with Alex & Henry okay.
I watched Red, White & Royal Blue this past month (like about… maybe 99% of the people I know) and found it so, so good. I’ll admit it: I barely remember the book, I read it years and years ago, but I remember the feelings it gave me. It made me laugh (really, a book that makes me laugh out loud, that’s amazing). It made me smile, it melted my heart, I loved the royalty vibes. The book was a hit at the time and I’m happy to say: I LIKED the movie, too!
I mean, LOOK AT THEM.
Anyway, today I thought I’d recommend some books like Red, White & Royal Blue. If you’re in need of more sort-of-forbidden romance between famous people, a bit of royalty drama, banter, banter, banter and SWOON, you should love these books.

If This Gets Out is about one of the most popular boys band in America. One of them, Ruben, is feeling more and more pressured to stay into the closet. He confides in Zach, one of his band mates about it, and they get closer… This was such a fun read, I loved the messy peek at the entertainment industry, the romance, and, I mean, a queer boys band romance, what more do you need?

The Prince & The Apocalypse, Kara McDowell
Oh I had so, so much fun reading The Prince & The Apocalypse, friends. It’s about Wren, an American teenager stranded in London, 8 days before the apocalypse. She pairs up with Theo… the British Crown prince, to make it back home before the end… I LOVED the banter in this one, the charming characters and all the traveling. Such a fun read!

American Royals, Katharine McGee
What if America had royals? This is the gist of this book and to be honest, it’s just so good. If you love your books drama-filled, you’ll adore this one. Between Prince Beatrice, poised (and nervous) to become the first queen regent, Samantha, the apparently careless princess and Jefferson, the prince with two suitors… there’s a lot happening and it is perfect if you want some royalty drama in your life.

Tokyo Ever After, Emiko Jean
When Izumi finds out she’s the Crown Prince of Japan’s daughter… well, things happen. She flies to Japan to meet her father for the first time, discovers what it’s like (and how complicated it is) to be a princess and, obviously, falls for the wrong guy. Reminiscent of The Princess’ Diaries, this book is so wonderful if you’re looking for a royalty kind of romance!

Kiss & Tell, Adib Khorram
Another boys band book, yay! In Kiss & Tell, we follow Hunter, the only gay member of his boys band, constantly pressured to be the perfect queer role model for teens. Obviously, there’s a bit of a kind of forbidden romance here, the pressure of celebrity and living in the public eye. Really enjoyed that one!

What If It’s Us, Becky Albertalli & Adam Silvera
Arthur and Ben meet randomly at the post office… a meet-cute that turns into a failed date, into one of them trying hard and the other not trying enough… it’s an adorable queer romance with such lovable characters, it will melt your heart okay.

One Last Stop, Casey McQuiston
I can’t not recommend Casey McQuiston’s book, One Last Stop, here. I mean, if you liked Red, White & Royal Blue, you’ll find her witty writing and excellent banter here, too! August’s 23 and moving to New York, where she meets, on the subway, Jane. There starts her impossible crush on a girl who’s actually… from the 1970s. Banter, a bit of magic, heartwarming, this book is just so wonderful to read.

The Ex Talk, Rachel Lynn Solomon
Oh you’ll definitely get the hate-to-love banter and vibes and intense chemistry in The Ex Talk! Shay works at a public radio station and, to save it, suggests a new concept: a relationship advice show, told by two exes. With their mutual hatred for each other, Shay and Dominic are perfect to host it… This was addictive, thrilling, the chemistry is on point and I 200% recommend it!

Heartstopper, Alice Oseman
Can’t NOT recommend Heartstopper if you’re looking for a m/m romance to make you swoon forever and ever okay. I don’t know what to say here, because you’re probably familiar with the adorable Charlie and the even more adorable Nick, somehow. This is just the cutest graphic novel ever okay.

Beach Read, Emily Henry
If you’re looking for an adult romance, Beach Read‘s excellent. It’s about two writers, Augustus and January, living in neighboring beach houses and both struggling with writer’s block. They decide to challenge each other, by writing out of their comfort zone and following up with each other… Loved the banter and the tension!

I absolutely love the Red, White and Royal Blue book, and am very excited to watch the film (I’ve been abroad and want to watch it with friends so haven’t had a chance yet!). I wrote about the similarities between Red, White and Royal Blue and If This Gets Out on my blog last year, when they were my top two books of the year! I absolutely love them both and If This Gets Out definitely fits this list! I also recently read What If It’s Us and the sequel Here’s To Us, and absolutely loved them too. I’m also (like most other people my age) absolutely obsessed with Heartstopper (and one of the proud people who read the graphic novel long before there was even talk of a netflix show!). Absolutely love this post! Will be featured on Saturday 16th in my “around the blogosphere” section in my new post 🙂
