Did you binge-watch the Heartstopper show on Netflix, cried from all of the feels and immediately wanted to watch it again…or maybe you just did?
I get it, friends, I felt the same way. I’ve loved Heartstopper when it was just a book, a graphic novel to be more specific, born in Alice Oseman’s wonderful mind and I was SO pumped to see it coming alive on the screen…but a little nervous, too. I didn’t need to be. Personally, I loved it and I hope you did, too.
I mean, just LOOK AT THEM.
Okay, while I could rant a long time about this show (maybe I should in another post? Let me know!!), I wanted to share a little list of books like Heartstopper today. This little selection below will give you soft romances, incredible cast of queer characters you’ll fall for, bisexual representation and, hopefully, you’ll find something you’ll love!

Bloom is this adorable graphic novel about soft boys and baked goods. Honestly, what more do we need? This story’s set in a sea side town and it’s about Ari and Hector, working together in this small bakery and falling in love. While you should note that this deals with a bit of a toxic friendship, it’s overall very soft and sweet and I love it very, very much.

On a Sunbeam is a lovely story set in space about a crew traveling around to repair broken-down structures. It’s about Mia, a new member of the team, tracking down her long lost love. It’s about a queer found family you’ll fall for, it’s beautiful and soft and the kind of quiet, heartwarming story you’ll love.

These 6 YA Books With Bisexual Representation
Perfect on Paper, Sophie Gonzales
Perfect on Paper is such a fun YA contemporary read about Darcy, a bisexual girl hired to give anonymous love advice to her classmates. I loved how entertaining this book was, with a wonderfully messy character struggling with her bisexuality, a supportive cast of queer characters I loved and more.

How To Make a Wish, Ashley Herring Blake
While How To Make A Wish isn’t that soft and sweet, since it deals with a shitty parent kind of situation, I loved this book so much and it fits the bill here for reasons. We get an absolutely wonderfully soft, pure relationship between a bisexual girl and a lesbian and you’ll fall for them and their story, I promise.

I Think I Love You, Auriane Desombre
I Think I Love You is about enemies to lovers competing for a film festival. It has one of these group of friends you’ll want to adopt, two messy main characters that you know, deep down, really belong together. While it’s a light read, it also deals with coming out as bisexual and parents’ divorcing. It’s a lovely, well-rounded read that works for any contemporary fan!

Verona Comics, Jennifer Dugan
Verona Comics is about two teens falling in love, despite their families being enemies… so, of course, they keep it a secret. While it’s a heartwarming read overall, it also deals with important topics such as mental health, questioning your sexuality and bi-erasure and these characters are so precious, you’ll love them.

Noteworthy, Riley Redgate
Jordan’s dreaming of getting cast in the school musical. Desperate to prove herself, she joins the Sharpshooters, an all-boys acappella group. This story talks expertly about genders and their perception, questioning your bisexuality and I really fell for the entire cast of this book.

Odd One Out, Nic Stone
Odd One Out is about two best friends, a new girl and all of the messy feelings coming in between the three of them. It’s about a love triangle, yes, but it’s also about questioning your sexuality, labels, love and friendship. While it’s certainly WAAAY more messy than Heartstopper ever is, I still recommend it here because of the themes of the books!

These 4 lovely YA books with a soft queer romance
Only Mostly Devastated, Sophie Gonzales
Filled with both heartwarming and heartbreaking moments, Only Mostly Devastated will win your heart. It’s about Ollie, still thinking about his summer fling with Will, when he discovers he’s now in the same school as him. I loved the wonderful cast of characters in this one, the sweet, adorable romance you’ll root for from page one and Ollie, such a softie okay.

I kind of have to mention What If It’s Us here, because if you’re looking for a fluffy, adorable kind of romance set in New York city. Two boys, a meet-cute, grand expectations that aren’t exactly met, interesting friendships dynamics: this book has everything you’ll fall for!

If you’re looking for a book like Heartstopper with a main character you’ll certainly fall for, I can heartily recommend this book. Simon is this sassy, gay, adorable teenager you’ll adore, you’ll fall for the romance, the group of friends, supportive family, it’s about coming out and being your true self and it’s a great, great read okay.

Going Off-Script, Jen Wilde
I just need everyone to read and scream about Jen Wilde’s books with me okay? Okay. This is about Bex, getting an internship on her favorite TV show and finding out they’re re-writing her lesbian character as straight. With an incredible cast of characters, a romance that will give you all the fluff feelings and all the fandom feels, Going Off Script is such a fantastic read!

One Last Stop, Casey McQuiston
A cynical, bisexual 23 years-old meets Jane on the train, only to discover she’s actually from the 1970s, with no clue how to get back to her time. I loved the concept of this book so much, but what really won my heart was, (aside from the romance), the incredible cast of characters, this big, queer found family you’ll immediately want to be a part of.

Alice’s Oseman Heartstopper books, of course!
This is a very obvious recommendation here, but READ Heartstopper! Before being a hit show on Netflix, this is an incredible series of graphic novels starring all of these characters you fell for on the big screen. These books feel like a warm hug, really.

This is a story about a sad, introverted teenager. It’s a story about mental health, about being a teenager and I personally found it relatable and important, too.

I still haven’t seen Heartstopper (waiting for my friend to watch it with me), but I loved this post and will come back to it afterward 💕 I really want to read Bloom, I keep hearing such good things about it! Yessss! First off, I watched Heartstopper last month and I ADORED it! I’m so excited that it got renewed for another two seasons! I’ve read the first three graphics novels, of course, but even though I own the fourth, I’m waiting to binge the series in its complete form whenever the 5th and final graphic novel comes out!
But I must say that this list was fantastic! Both of your graphic novel recs were on point! I’ve read and adored both of them, and they definitely give me similar vibes! And despite my not having read much YA in a while, there were still a few on here that I had read and totally agreed with. In fact, even the ones I hadn’t read, I thought were fantastic fits based on what I’ve heard about them!
