Fair disclaimer here: I’m not a fan of the fall season, at all. Sure, nature is absolutely beautiful when it starts bursting itnto a million shades of oranges, but… there’s something about it that doesn’t sit with me or my mental health. That’s why, in autumn, I appreciate my cozy YA books so much more.
According to its definition, cosy means “giving a feeling of comfort, warmth, and relaxation.”
This is all I need in this tough season change and is what I tried to do with this list: compile some books that touched my heart and just, made me happy. The kind of book you want to take with you under a warm blanket and snuggle up with for a cold evening as the colored leaves fall off the trees outside of your window.

YA Books To Read This Fall: Our Cozy Recommendations!
Serious Moonlight, Jenn Bennett
Jenn Bennett’s books are all incredible comfort reads for me and Serious Moonlight is no exception. I picked it out for this fall read recommendations, because it has these autumn, rainy vibes, a little bit of mystery to solve in a historic Seattle hotel and, of course, a lovely romance.

A Taste For Love, Jennifer Yen
Nothing says cosy quite as well as a contemporary romance with a bachelorette situation and a baking contest. A Taste For Love is such an adorable story about Liza, helping out in the annual baking competition hosted by her family… only to find out that this is actually a well-orchestrated match-making scheme made by her mother. It was fun and heartwarming and entertaining and I loved it.

Last Chance Books, Kelsey Rodkey
Last Chance Books is about rival bookshops, one family business and another chain bookstore. It’s about Madeline, wanting to destroy the competition across the street and starting a war… that turns out to be filled with unexpected feelings, as well. An enemies to lovers story that made me laugh out loud and swoon. Definitely a comfy read.

Famous in a Small Town, Emma Mills
All of Emma Mills’ books have their place in the cosy category, but I thought I’d pick Famous in a Small Town here. It’s a story about a small town, a group of friends and a mysterious country singer. It’s filled with heartwarming friendships and relationships, banter and just overall, it’s the kind of book you want to snuggle with okay.

American Panda, Gloria Chao
Freshman at MIT, Mei always went through life following the path her parents carefully crafted for her. I loved following her in American Panda as she slowly carves her own path and stands up for what she wants against her parents’ expectations, just as well. It’s such a good, entertaining read.

The Truth Project, Dante Medema
It might feel like a strange choice, because The Truth Project doesn’t really fit inside the cosy definition, but… it’s the kind of book you’re so hooked onto, it’s perfect to read all at once on a rainy autumn day. It’s about finding your roots and yourself, the writing is absolutely stunning and I just love this book.

The Library of Lost Things, Laura Taylor Namey
The Library of Lost Things is such an underrated, incredible contemporary. It’s one of these soft, yet deep contemporaries with a slow-burning love story, kickass incredible best friend, complex mother daughter relationship and all the books. I loved it!

With the Fire On High, Elizabeth Acevedo
With the Fire on High is a fairly popular book and there’s a reason why. It’s about Emoni, a senior in high school and also a mother, struggling between following her own dreams and the strict rules she sets for herself. It’s so character driven and fantastic you’ll fall for it, will dream of the delicious food it’s filled with and will feel your heart warm up, over and over again.

More Than Maybe, Erin Hahn
More Than Maybe is filled with a passion for music that makes your heart race, right from the start. It’s about Vada, a music blogger and Luke, son of a rock-star with a hidden talent for song-writing. It has a lovely, slow-growing romance, a whole lot of music, great friendships and siblings relationships and it’s just so cosy I love it.

The Secret of a Heart Note, Stacey Lee

Adorable, The Secret of a Heart Note is a beautiful contemporary read with a little bit of fantasy and a whole lot of love. Perfect to curl up with on your couch on a fall evening.

I often find myself reaching for spooky books, especially in October, but I also love cozy books so much ❤ I sadly still haven’t read Last Chance Books, but I definitely need to read it, hopefully at the beginning of next year! I also have to try out Emma Mills, I keep hearing that her books are fun and wholesome 🥰
