10 Adult Books I’m Dying to Read

Cassandra in Reverse, Holly Smale
Cassandra is a creature of habit but lately everything’s going south. She’s been dumped and fired. Then, something truly unexpected happens: she discovers that she can go back and change the past! Just reading the blurb, I’m already hooked! The main character sounds quirky and this is a story about time travel! I’m all in!

Valley Verified, Kyla Zhao
This is about Zoe who swaps her New York fashion writer gig for a tech job in Silicon Valley. But she soon realizes that, in an industry that claims to change the world for the better, not everyone’s intentions are pure. Doesn’t it give you some Legally Blonde vibes? I think it does and I’m all here for it!

Did You Hear About Kitty Karr?, Crystal Smith Paul
A multigenerational saga that traverses the glamour of old Hollywood and the seductive draw of modern-day showbiz? I want to buy it right this second! When Kitty Karr, a white icon of the silver screen, dies and gives her multimillion-dollar estate to three young wealthy Black women, it prompts questions. Lots of questions… A real page-turner I bet!

Last Tang Standing, Lauren Ho
I really enjoyed Lucie Yi Is Not a Romantic and I’m looking forward to getting my hands on this one! Blurbed as Crazy Rich Asians meets Bridget’s Jones’s Diary, it sounds funny and refreshing! At thirty-three, Andrea is living the dream. Successful career, posh condo, amazing friends. The only hiccup? The pressure of her family to meet the one and get married.

Wahala, Nikki May
This incisive debut novel about toxic female friendships follows three Anglo-Nigerian best friends and the lethally glamorous fourth woman who infiltrates their group. Filled with drama, twists and Sex and The City vibes, it looks unputdownable! And it’s told in alternate points of view, I absolutely love that!

Only Love Can Hurt Like This, Paige Toon
In the spirit of Jojo Moyes’s Me Before You, this one is a heartbreaking love story with an earth-shattering secret at its core. When Wren realizes her fiance is in love with someone else, she thinks her heart will never recover. That is until she meets Anders… It looks deeply emotional, the question here is: am I going to shed a few tears or a lot?

The Happy Couple, Naoise Dolan
This one is about a couple heading toward their wedding and the three friends who may drive them apart… It seems funny, intimate and clever and I’m really curious about it. Filled with discussions around the institution of marriage, sharp dialogues and messy characters, I can’t wait to get into it!

Romantic Comedy, Curtis Sittenfeld
A comedy writer thinks she’s sworn off love, until a dreamily handsome pop star flips the script on all her assumptions. It seems hilarious, empathetic and brilliant! In this novel, Curtis Sittenfeld gives us an incisive and razor-sharp examination of love, dating and all its messiness. I need to buy it now!

The Three of Us, Ore Agbaje-Williams
The wife has it all. A big house, an amazing friend and a loving husband. The only thing missing is a baby. But motherhood is a serious undertaking and the wife’s two confidantes are suddenly forced to jockey for their positions. I’m so curious about this sharp-edged domestic comedy that will make you jump from one POV to another as long-held tensions grow taut and quickly unravel…

This Time Tomorrow, Emma Straub
What if you could take a vacation to your past? On the eve of her 40th birthday, Alice’s life isn’t terrible. She likes her job, her apartment and her independence. But her father is ailing and it feels like something is missing. Then, one morning, she finds herself back in 1996, reliving her 16th birthday. It’s all about the love between a daughter and her father, it looks so heartwarming!

This Time Tomorrow was SUCH a beautiful book. I read it at a certain time in my life and really fell hard. The main character is selfish and that can be distracting at times, but I also just kind of got it.
I’m in love with the cover of Valley Verified by the way 😍
That makes me even more want to read it now!! 😁
Yeees, so gorgeous 😍
Thank you so much for stopping by, happy reading! 😘
I loved the Straub book. It was very moving. Hope you enjoy them all
Can’t wait to read it! 😊
Thank you so much 🥰
Ah Valley Verified sounds so good! I remember reading Fraud Squad by the same author, and although it wasn’t the best thing ever, I still had a blast reading it! Did You Hear About Kitty Karr? sounds really interesting too – currently I’m reading Siren Queen by Nghi Vo so I guess I’m in my Hollywood book era haha. Both The Queens of New York by E.L. Shen and August Blue by Deborah Levy are on my priority TBR at the moment 😊
Yeeees, it really does! 😍
Oooh, I need to check this one out! 👀
Yaaay! 😊
Thank you so much for stopping by, happy reading! 😘😘
Nothing particularly strikes me at this time in this bunch, the cover of the happy couple & romantic comedy particularly irks me xD
Hoping you’d enjoy them whenever you get to them though ! xx
Oh, that’s too bad!
Thanks! 😊
A couple of these are also on my TBR! I picked up a copy of Romantic Comedy after loving Rodham by Curtis Sittenfeld, so I’m hoping to get to that soon. I’m also looking forward to reading The Happy Couple after recently enjoying Exciting Times.
Some interesting-looking books I hadn’t heard of, too – ‘Crazy Rich Asians meets Bridget Jones’ Diary’ sounds like a great combo!
Yaaay, I hope we’ll enjoy them ! 😁
Thank you so much for stopping by, happy reading! 😘😘
