Hello everyone! Happy September (can you hear me crying as summer is slowly slipping away?)! How are you? Did you miss me in August? How was your month? Tell me everything! For me, summer break was absoutely glorious. I got time off work and went to Canada wih my lovely sister. We discovered pretty spots, ate way too much bagels and climbed like a million stairs. And you know what? I’m ready to do it all over again!
We went to a few librairies there and as I was lying on the floor crying because I couldn’t possibly bring back all the books in my suitcase (damn you, airlines!), I added them to my TBR! So today, I’ve decided to share all those awesome books I discovered and that I’m dying to read!
Here are are 10 awesome adult books, mostly in the contemporary and chick lit vein, that you also need to add to your ever-growing TBR! You’re very welcome! 😉

A Hundred Other Girls, Iman Hariri-Kia
This one sounds like The Devil Wears Prada and The Bold Type and I’m so here for it! We follow Noora, an aspiring writer and amateur blogger in New York, as she lands a highly coveted job as assistant to Loretta James, Vinyl’s iconic editor-in-chief. But her dream job isn’t exactly what she thought it would be… I bet it’s funny and incisive and all about sisterhood and chasing your dreams. Can’t wait to get into it!

That is until she meets his ex-girlfriend, Rosemary, that actually live right here in New York and works in the literary world. Feeling threatened, she starts stalking her and even becoming her friend. Also she can’t stop writing about her… It sounds quirky and it deals with self-loathing, insecurity, and the fear of revealing your self to others but also to which lenghts you’re ready to go for your art.

Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, Gail Honeyman
So…this one is kind of famous or what? We follow Eleanor, a social misfit with a traumatic past who becomes enamoured with a singer, whom she believes she is destined to be with. This story deals with important topics like isolation and loneliness. It sounds both sad and funny, smart and blunt and really emotional. I’m pretty sure I’m going to root for her and enjoy seeing her growth through the novel. Did you read that one yet? Did you like it?

At 24, she’s finally made it to England where she’s offered an awesome position in a rising political star’s presidential campaign. Her whole future is pretty much set until she falls for a local with a life-changing secret… It looks perfect for fans of JoJo Moyes and Nicholas Sparks. Heartbreaking and heartwarming, I bet it will make my heart flutter! And the Oxford setting? Yes please!

Daniel was the first boy to make Alison a mix tape. But that was years ago and Ali hasn’t thought about him in a very long time. Then Dan’s name pops up on her phone, with a link to a song from their shared past. And so it begins again… Oh my god, it sounds so cute and full of nostalgia! A lovely read about love and music, I’m pretty sure I’m going to want to wrap myself under the covers with a good playlist, a cup of tea and this book.

When she lands a job writing obituaries, she meets the fabulous Cricket, an eighty-something widow, with whom she strikes up an unlikely friendship. Together they begin to help each other heal their aching hearts and push each other into new adventures. It will make me laugh and cry and I love the message that whatever happens you’re not alone, we’re all in this together. And it’s never too late to turn your life around.

Love Your Life, Sophie Kinsella
Ava is a romantic. She thinks love should be found in the real world, not on apps that filter men by height, job, or astrological sign. So after a recent break up and dating app debacle, she decides to escape to a remote writers’ retreat in coastal Italy. There, she starts a whirlwind love affair with a man who seems too good to be true. I’m pretty sure this one will make my heart happy. It’ll be predicatable I think but also very sweet, fun and entertaining. A feel-good book made for swooning for sure!

Florence is the ghostwriter for one of the most prolific romance authors in the industry, but she has a problem… After a terrible break up, she no longer believes in love and has trouble finishing her book. When her father passes away, she returns to the home she’s run from. Even though she missed her family, she can’t bring herself to stay. That is until she finds a ghost standing at the funeral parlor’s front door… I’ve never read a blurb like that before and I’m intrigued! It sounds weird and charming and I’m really really curious about it! Give it to me now!

But after the death of her father and the betrayal of her on-screen love interest and off-screen best friend Ransom, Liv wanted nothing more than try to live a normal life. But now, twenty years after the show’s premiere, the cast is invited back for a reunion special. Best friends turn into estranged adults ? TV show setting? Banter? Yes, yes and yes! This books has got all the ingredients I love! I absolutely can’t wait for this one to come out!

I read Eleanor earlier this year and really liked it. But I see why people don’t like it. She’s a hard character to like at first, but after you get past the first part, she gets better.
Really looking forward to read it! 😊
Thank you so much for stopping by 😘😘
I can’t wait to hear your thoughts! 😊💞

Eleanor Oliphant is one of my favorite books ever. Highly recommend but it definitely gets dark/sad.
Can’t wait to read it! 😊

I’m super excited to read The Dead Romantics! While I don’t read a lot of romance, it is a genre that I’m slowly dipping my toes in more and more and that one in particular sounds perfect for me! While I read a lot of YA (especially when it comes to thrillers and mysteries), I’ve also been enjoying more adult books, particularly sci-fi! Two of my favourites from this year are Light Years From Home by Mike Chen and Bluebird by Ciel Pierlot!
Yaaay! 😊
Oooh, I will check those out!
Thank you so much for stopping by and happy reading 😘😘
I need to visit Canada, my sister in law lives on Toronto! People We Meet on Vacation is one of my faves.
Oh that’s awesome!! You really should visit, it’s amazing over there 😍😍

I’m mostly familiar with classics and fantasy, but a wholesome feeling contemporary stories I’m absolutely loving are by this Australian author, Joanna Nell. The Single Ladies of Jacaranda Retirement Village was an absolute delight to listen to on audio! The narration was excellent I loved listening to a story with seniors being the main characters! And I’m young in my twenties mind you. And The Great Escape from Woodlands Nursing Home has been equally delightful!
Eleanor Oliphant and My Oxford Year both intrigue me. Hopefully I’ll be able to get around to them. I don’t mind YA or Adult, I just need quality prose from either :-).
Awesome, I’ll need to check those out 😁
Yeees, totally agree with you! If it’s well written it’s all good 😊
Thank you so much for stopping by, happy reading 😘😘
Eleanor Oliphant is one of my favorite books. It is so profound. Not what I thought at all when I started reading it.
I’m even more excited to read it now! 😁
Thanks for stopping by 😘😘
