There are books I can’t stop thinking about.
No matter what I do, no matter how many books I read, there are some stories that ALWAYS find their way back into my mind to make me scream, torture me, make me smile, make me FEEL a lot of things, okay.
I don’t know what to do about it, except shoving these books into other people’s faces and hoping that they end up feeling the same way. So, here I am.
These are some of my favorite young adult books of ALL times. They hit me hard and I don’t know. I just adore them. READ THEM PLEASE?

Here are my latest book hangovers…

Girls With Sharp Sticks, Suzanne Young
I thought I’d like this book, oh damn I was wrong. I was obsessed with this book from the first pages, engrossed in the story of these girls, this strange Academy, the Guardians looking over them and more. I was spellbound by the twists and turns and I just got irritated and empowered and frustrated all at once. I loved it SO MUCH.

Our Year of Maybe, Rachel Lynn Solomon
I finished reading Our Year of Maybe and thought, damn. This is the kind of book I dream of writing someday. The compelling, all-consuming friendship, family relationships, finding yourself… I just fell for this book, HARD.

Meat Market, Juno Dawson
Meat Market is the equivalent of a slap in the face. Honestly, my eyes were SO WIDE open while I read this. Astonishment, shock. This book’s about the dark side of the fashion industry and it was AMAZING.

An Absolutely Remarkable Thing, Hank Green
I remember reading An Absolutely Remarkable Thing after receiving it for my birthday back in 2018. I was stuck at home with a broken foot and all I could do was read and I never read a book so quickly. It’s a mix of contemporary and sci-fi with enough mystery to keep you guessing and ugh.

The Reader, Traci Chee
The Reader is a piece of art. I will never, ever cease to talk about this series and how stunning it is and how it broke my heart into a million pieces. It’s in a world where reading’s unheard of, it’s about a mysterious book and a journey to figure out what happened to Sefia’s parents. It’s captivating and you should READ THIS.

Nothing Left to Burn, Heather Ezell
Nothing Left to Burn is a debut, but for me it’s a freaking masterpiece, a book I wish I could have written, really. Told in different timelines, it explores Audrey’s tumultuous, all-consuming relationship with her boyfriend… while she’s trying to evacuate her home, burning by Californian fires. It’s bold and beautiful and heartbreaking and stunning. I loved it.

The Fever King, Victoria Lee
I wasn’t certain I’d love The Fever King this much, given that it was a bit out of my comfort zone, but, damn I couldn’t have been more wrong. This book and its sequel, The Electric Heir, are printed on my mind and its characters just won’t leave me alone. Victoria Lee created a stunning world with unforgettable character dynamics and this book is unique and absolutely amazing. Read it.

The Ones We’re Meant to Find, Joan He
I know this book releases in May, but I got lucky enough to read it and can’t stop thinking about it so here I am. It’s a story about sisters, it’s a thrilling mystery with a stunning world-building. It has twists and turns and I don’t want to reveal too much. Just know this: this book is one of my favorites of ALL TIMES and you NEED it on your TBR.

Delirium, Lauren Oliver
It’s an old one, but I will always love it with all my heart. I read the last few pages of Delirium with tears streaming down my face, it was just so good. This is set in a world where love is a disease and it’s stunning and still to this day one of my favorites.

Crier’s War, Nina Varela
Oops. I might scream about Crier’s War again. I’m sorry, I can’t stop. I didn’t expect to fall for this story, but damn, I did. The world building, the yearning, the characters, the sloooooooooooow burning the everything. I couldn’t stop reading this book and I can’t stop thinking about reading the sequel now.

Great post!! The Fever King is one of my favorite books (I did love the sequel even more, though) and I cannot wait to read the other ones!
Ahhh thank you so much! YES The Fever King, it’s such a stunning book (and series!), I can’t wait to read A Lesson in Vengeance next! 😀
Me too omg, it looks FABULOUS
I can’t WAIT for us to read it! 😀
This is an awesome post. And its waaay to nerdy for me to say this but I simply love the way you’ve written this post, Marie. We’ve all been here. Obsessing over a few fixed books. They’ always the ones that come to my mind when books are mentioned. I fantasise about them, get lost in them and also create a few new scenes in my own head. Especially when I’m supposed to be studying and getting bored out of my mind. So yeah I’m weird and have a hate-love relationship with my most favourite books. I’m certainly adding Crier’s war to my TBR, thanks to this post.
Oh thank you! So happy you enjoyed this post. I hope you’ll love Crier’s War! 😀
AHHHH MARIE I LOVE THIS POST SO MUCH!!! And I’m so excited to get to all the books you mentioned. Especially The Fever King and An Absolutely Remarkable Thing, both of which are on my 2021 tbr *pray for me*. And recently now super excited about Crier’s War after your review hehe. Such a lovely post xoxox
AH I can’t WAIT to hear your thoughts on these, please keep me updated whenever you can read them!! 😀
I loved Crier’s War and the Fever King, I should check out the others!

Ahh I hope you will! 😀
Is it nerdy of me to say that I absolutely loved the way you’ve written this post? Well, because I do. It’s a great post that all readers can connect with. Even I have a few books that I’ve re-read a million times. I fantasize about them, write letters to their characters and create new scenes in my mind. Especially when I’m supposed to be studying but can’t get my mind to concentrate (I’ve got a hate-love relationship with my favorite books). Thanks Marie. I’m definitely adding Crier’s War to my TBR.
Thank YOU so much!! I hope you’ll love Crier’s War! 🙂
ahh so many of these are on my TBR! i’m currently reading The Ones We’re Meant To Find and omg it is so good! great post <3
AHH I’m so glad you’re enjoying it, it’s such an INCREDIBLE read <3 Thank you so much!
Oh, The reader was on my tbr for some time but I deleted it. I don’t even know why I removed the book. Sounds like i might enjoy it. Also, Delirium <3
Ahh I hope you’ll give it a chance, it’s an incredible read <3 And Delirium, I adore that book.
Thank you!! <
Our Year of Maybe was so good! For me, You’ll Miss Me When I’m Gone hurt the most! I still need to read Today Tonight Tomorrow. I’ll have to check out Meat Market, it sounds so good!
Ahh I need to read You’ll Miss Me When I’m Gone, but… I’m terrified of it, too. It seems so heavy and emotional, I need to be ready for it ahah. I hope you’ll love Meat Market! 😀
So I have read three of these (Crier’s War, Our Year of Maybe, Girls With Sharp Sticks, Delirium) and YEP YEP YEP. Could not agree more! And the best part is that pretty much every single other book on your list is on my TBR, most of them on my actual bookshelves, yay! I also am reminded that I really need to purchase the sequel to Crier’s War ASAP, and that the final Girl With Sharp Sticks is coming out soon, yayy! So glad you loved these!!
AH YAY! This makes me so happy, I hope you’ll love these other books as much as I do <3 AND YES I'm so eager to read the final Girls with Sharp Sticks, this series is so thrilling!
Fantastic list! A few here are already on my tbr and I’ve added a few more now as well!
Ah yay! So happy to hear this, thank you, Louise 😀
Our Year of Maybe left me a puddle. The ending broke my heart.
SO many emotions. I loved this book SO much! <3
At this point you’re just making me feel guilty for not having picked up crier’s war yet, lol! But you’re really on the way to make it my number 1 priority haha. Also, is this my sign to preorder The Ones We’re Meant to Find?
I’m sorry hahaha. BUT YES PLEASE! The Ones We’re Meant to Find is STUNNING, I love it so much ahh I can’t wait for you to read it! <3
I’m hoping to start The Ones We’re Meant to Find soon, but one that’s always in my mind is Patron Saints of Nothing because it was the first book I first felt seen by. Also, The Never Tilting World because the world is so immersive and I love the characters. If Rin Chupeco ever wrote another book in this world or even a short story I’d read it.
Ah yay, I hope you’ll love it! 🙂 I haven’t read these two books you mentioned, I heard great things about them both though, I’ll have to give them a try 🙂
I don’t usually read YA but these all sound soo good!!!
Ahh I hope you’ll pick up and will love some of these <3
I absolutely loved The Reader!! I’m not sure why I haven’t continued the series yet but I really, really need to, it was fantastic!
Books I always come back to are Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson and most of Holly Bourne’s books, they just had a big impact on me 🙂
AH Kat I hope you will, it’s such a brilliant series. Be ready for all the feels though haha <3
I LOVE Holly Bourne's work SO much, she's fantastic! :D
I also loved The Fever King Duology and had such a big book hangover when I finished The Electric Heir!! I need to do another reread ❤ Plus, I really want to finish The Reader Trilogy, I’m only missing the last book in the series! You also have me intrigued by Girls With Sharp Sticks as well as Crier’s War 🥰
Ah yes me too, I’d love to sometime <3 I can't WAIT to hear what you think of the last book of The Reader, it was so emotional and ahh. I loved it! <3
Oooh I love this!! I’ve had The Fever King on my TBR for a while now, and I got an e-arc of The Ones We’re Meant to Find, I’m so excited to read them!! 🥰
AHH I can’t wait to hear what you think of these books!! 😀
I’m really excited for The Ones Were Meant to Find, it seems I’m more easily swayed by a good cover than I thought. I haven’t seen many reviews of it yet, so glad to know you liked it
Ahh I hope you’ll enjoy it! 🙂
Girls With Sharp Sticks…yesss! I think about this one all the time too and I can’t wait for the third book. I have Meat Market and can’t wait to read it, especially even more now that I see you can’t stop thinking about! 🙂
I can’t wait for the third book either! 😀 I hope you’ll love Meat Market, it’s fantastic 😀
i’m happy to hear you enjoyed the ones we’re mean to find so much. i know the cover release got so much hype and it’s always great to hear that a book did live up to it’s beautiful cover hahah i was in the fence about it because i didn’t know how the sci-fi elements would be woven into the story, but your excitement has me sold!
I can’t wait for you to read it, Lais, I really really hope you’ll love it! <3
I just recently saw Girls with Sharp Sticks on my Hoopla Favorites list, but I couldn’t remember much about it. Now you’ve renewed my interest in the book, so thank you!
I also LOVE Delirium—I’ve never forgotten that series!
Ahh I hope you’ll love Girls with Sharp Sticks, it’s SO good! And yes, I couldn’t forget about Delirium. Such a fantastic read <3
I don’t think I will ever be over The Fever King, and I’m okay with that. Looking forward to having The Ones We’re Meant to Find ruin me
AH YES please update me whenever you read it so we can scream about it together! <3
I know I say this everytime, but how do you still manage to introduce me to more books that I want to read, aha! I hadn’t heard of Meat Market, but didn’t realize that it’s the second book that comes after clean, which you raved about! I will eventually get through all the books I want to (hopefully, aha). Great post Marie xx
