Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Brokeandbookish. This week’s theme was actually Ten Favorite 2016 Releases, but…. I am a bit of a rebel haha, and I was kind of lazy as well to look up at the release dates… instead, since this year has be SO good so far (in reading matters), I’m going to share ten of my favorite books I’ve read so far this year! If you want to discover the wonderful books, click on the title for a link to Goodreads!
1 • The Sky Is Everywhere, Jandy Nelson
I just can’t stop raving about that book now, can I? Sorry. It was just too good not to mention.
2 • Second Chance Summer, Morgan Matson
Despite some minor flaws, that book was quite great and Morgan Matson never disappointed me, so far. She’s an awesome contemporary writer, and I LOVE STORIES ABOUT FAMILY. *goes cry in a corner*.
3 • The Summer of Chasing Mermaids, Sarah Ockler
I’m a huge contemporary lover, in case you haven’t noticed, haha. That book was so, so good, and there’s definitely more to it than just this cover.
4 • The Wrath and The Dawn, Renee Ahdieh
I wasn’t expecting to love that book this much, and to be honest, I wasn’t expecting to scream because THAT ENDING. I can’t wait to read MORE.
5 • Everything, Everything, Nicola Yoon
Another hyped book I managed to really like. What can I say, I love cute fluffy books.
6 • Only Ever Yours, Louise O’Neill
That book was just like a slap in the face. A really hurtful one, yet one that makes you see the world differently.
7 • Cinder, Marissa Meyer
Another book that lived up to his hype…a lot. A Cinderella retelling? Androids, cyborgs and craziness? YES.
8 • Isla and the happily ever after, Stephanie Perkins
Yet another contemporary, and a cute, sweet love story in the Anna and the French Kiss series.
9 • Never, Never, Colleen Hoover
Feelings after reading this: WHAT IS HAPPENING.
10 • Seven Ways We Lie, Riley Redgate
SEVEN POV. You read this right. Yet, it was so good. Can you believe it? No, me neither.
Despite some minor flaws, that book was quite great and Morgan Matson never disappointed me, so far. She’s an awesome contemporary writer, and I LOVE STORIES ABOUT FAMILY. *goes cry in a corner*.
I’m a huge contemporary lover, in case you haven’t noticed, haha. That book was so, so good, and there’s definitely more to it than just this cover.

I think you have one new release on the list hahaha That’s Seven Ways We Lie, but I get it. It’s more important that you enjoyed the books rather then when they were released!
Ahahah well…that’s why I didn’t do 2016 releases haha 😛 New books are expensive, I usually buy paperbacks, maybe that’s why as well 🙂
I don’t really have all that many hardcovers either, even though they are SO dreamy! Hardcovers are just beautiful.
They are, right? And just looking at them on bookshelves make me so happy. I wish I’d have the money to buy ALL the hardcovers ahah 🙂
That would be such a nice shelf!!!
A DREAM shelf, even 😛
P.S. I had a lot (or at least some) arcs on my list.
Ahah, well…that still counts so that’s okay 🙂
Great ! I almost did the same thing (books read instead of releases )
Ahah well I’m not the only one who cheated, then yay, ahah 🙂
I did the same thing with my list this week haha, I just haven’t read enough 2016 releases to make a substantial list. The Sky Is Everywhere is such an emotional, heart-wrenching read– it seems like that’s Jandy Nelson’s forte! Great list!
Haha, well I’m glad I’m not the only one! 🙂 Oh yes, it’s definitely her forte, and probably why I love it so much. Heart-wrenching reads are DEFINITELY for me. 🙂 Thank you so much Holly!
Omg… Only Ever Yours!! I don’t even know where to begin feeling with that book!! I also loved Isla! I was disappointed with TWATD and actually DNFed it… Most of these are on my TBR 🙂 great list
RIGHT? I just don’t know what to say when I want to talk about it, besides: JUST read it ahah. Oh no, so sad to hear TWATD wasn’t for you 🙁 Thank you so much! <3
I was so stuck about how to review that book!! I might buy myself a physical copy!! 🙂
Oh, you should, it deserves to be on your shelves 😀
This is what I did, too. Nixed eyeballing release dates, and just did my favorites so far. Cinder was good! You need to read The Shadow Queen.
My Top Ten.
Haha well I’m not the only one then, I’m glad to hear it! 🙂 Ohh I will check it out, thank you for the recommendation! 🙂
” I love cute fluffy books.” I relate to this so much! I was doing my TTT and realised almost everything I read this year was fluffy contemporary XD Second Chance Summer literally had me crying at like 1am. The ending broke me so much, family feels are the best
OH yay, we can be fluffy book lovers twinnies -if that even makes sense haha. I just love books like that. Oh and Second Chance Summer got me really hard, I just loved it <3
Great books
Thank you 🙂
The Wrath and The Dawn was amazing! I still need to get to The Rose and the Dagger. Wonderful list this week 🙂
I have to agree, I LOVED it so much! I can’t wait to read the sequel. Hope we’ll both find it as amazing as the first book 🙂 Thank you so much!
So many great books here… Second Chance Summer is my favorite Morgan Matson novel – the way the family relationships are written in that one is on point! I absolutely loved The Summer Of Chasing Mermaids too – it was my first Sarah Ockler book and I definitely want to read more by after now.
Thanks for sharing these and I hope your reading year continues awesomely!
Thank you so, so much! <3 I just loved the family aspect of the story as well, Morgan Matson is SO good at that, I love it <3 Oh well I have read #Scandal, also by Sarah Ockler, and it was so good, as well, I hope you'll read it! 🙂 Thank you!
Great list of books! 🙂
Thank you so much! 🙂
I loved Everything, Everything too!! Well, except for the issues I had with the twist at the end… but I really liked the MC’s voice and how each chapter varies in length <3
Uh, if you liked Cinder, what are you waiting for? Go read the rest of the series! Haha it's one of my favorite series of all time, and I only started this year as well! 😀
I liked Never, Never (lol what is it with books repeating the same word twice as a title) but was kind of disappointed with the sequel.
Marie, have you read On the Jellicoe Road? If not, please please please go check it out. It's really amazing and I'm pretty sure you'll love it!
Many, many people had issues with the twist in that book… I was not too surprised, actually, and I was disappointed as well, but it didn’t take away too much of my enjoyment, so I guess it was still okay 🙂
I am waiting to go back home because my sister bought and owns the sequel (and I am definitely going to read it BEFORE HER if I can hahaha, I love you @nyxcorner) I am SO IMPATIENT! 😀
I was disappointed as well with the sequel, I loved the idea but that ending kind of ruined things 🙁
Oh no, I haven’t read that book…but now that you said this, I HAVE to check it out 😀
Thank you so, so much!! <3
I wasn’t surprised, too. It was kind of expected, but I was really hoping that it won’t be the ending anyway. But you’re right, the overall greatness of the book trumps that disappointing twist.
HAHAH, yay! I can’t wait for you to read them! 😀
Oh yes, please do. Haha <3 (now I'm kinda afraid you won't like it… but no, I believe in the power of that book, lol)
Ahah, well and I believe in your AWESOME recommendations, so I feel like I will love it! <3
Aww thank you! And I hope that you really will 🙂
I will let you know for sure 🙂
There are a lot of rebels this week. 🙂 Cinder! Hope you’ll love Scarlet too. I still haven’t read Anna and the French Kiss, hope to get to that one soon.
Haha, well it’s good to hear I’m not alone, ahah 🙂 I’m going to read Scarlet as soon as I can, probably in a couple weeks, and I am SO excited for it! oh, well Anna and The French Kiss is perfect if you’re just looking for a sweet contemporary, I hope you’ll enjoy it! 🙂
From this list I only own The Summer of Chasing Mermaids.
I haven’t read any 2016 release at all.I bought some but they are still in my bookshelves.
My TTT.
Oh well I hope you’ll love The Summer of Chasing Mermaids 🙂 Thank you, happy reading! 😀
All of the books on your list are at the top of my tbr. I can;t wait to read Cinder and Only Ever Yours. Both of them seem like unique and incredible books! I also LOVED the Wrath and the Dawn. Did you also get confused, thinking that the excerpt from book 2 was a part of the story? I remember that after I finished it, I kept thinking ” NO, I need more Shazi and Khalid!!!!” ;D
OH I hope you’ll love these books, they are both so unique indeed, 😀
I did ahah, I thought the story wasn’t over, and when I realized it was, thiss made me SO sad ahah. Did you read the sequel already, or not yet? 🙂
I’ve only read #s 8 & 9, but I loved them both. I still need to read some of the rest of them.
My TTT: http://www.anovelglimpse.com/2016/06/21/top-ten-tuesday-top-ten-favorite-2016-releases-so-far-this-year/
OH glad to know you liked these! 🙂 Thank you so much <3
Except for Cinder and Isla I really need to read all of these! Who wants to sponsor me haha. My favourites so far are Stars Above and The Hidden Oracle, and I’m 100% that Monsters of Men will be a favourite too 🙂
Ahah, I need someone to buy me ALL the books as well. One day we’ll find that special someone 😛 Ohhh really, I am so eager to read your review about Monster of Men, or to know your thoughts about it, it sounds so good 🙂
Hopefully one day soon haha! I’ll let you know what I think of it! So far it’s really good 🙂
I can’t wait, so glad to hear it’s good so far! 🙂
Yes Second Chance Summer!
That book was SO good, right? 🙂 thank you so much for stopping by!
I know, it’s one of my absolute favorites! And no problem 🙂
So glad to know that you really enjoyed wrath and dawn and also Cinder. BOth on my TBR
Ohh well I hope you’ll enjoy them just as much as I did 😀
SCS and the Lunar Chronicles are AMAZING! So glad they are on this list. The rest of those I still need to read. AHH so much to read so little time.
There are always SO many books to read, and so little time, but I hope we’ll get through ALL of the books someday. I believe that haha 😛 Thank you so much!
So many amazing books! I’m on a Morgan Matson binge at the moment – currently reading The Unexpected Everything and then I want to read Since You’ve Been Gone and Second Chance Summer 🙂
Ohh, well I’ve read all of her books so far, except the last one, the one you’re currently reading ahah. I hope you’re enjoying it, I can’t wait to know what you think 🙂 morgan Matson is one of my favorite authors 🙂
Ahhh, I LOVED the Never, Never trilogy (or the first two parts)!! I have yet to read Part Three, but I’m a little hesitant to read it because then it’s all over ): As for the other novels you listed, I actually haven’t read any of them xD But don’t worry, almost ALL of them are on my TBR <3
-Jess @jbelkbooks
I loved it so much as well, actually I’ll have a review up this week 😀 I’m eager to know your thoughts about that ending… so please do read it soon 😀
Ooo, really??? Well I need to read it soon then because I wanna compare your thoughts with mine! I just need to purchase it first…. 🙂
-Jess @jbelkbooks
Oh yes I would love to hear your thoughts about it, and that ending…ugh I need to talk about it! 🙂
Definitely! You’ll be the first to know when I get around to it 🙂
-Jess @jbelkbooks
You have read so many fabulous books this year! I’ve loved so many of them!
Oh yay, so glad to hear it 🙂
Ohhh this is the second time I’ve seen “Seven Ways We Lie” listed and I’m becoming more and more curious about it. 7 POVs is crazy though, good on the author for being able to handle that!
It is crazy, 7 really is a lot, and I was so scared when I picked up that book. I’m glad I read it, though, because they were all handled very well, in my opinion, and I loved the story! I hope you’ll decide to try it out, and love it just as well 🙂 Thank you so, so much! 🙂
I need to read The Sky Is Everywhere and Second Chance Summer. I keep hearing amazing things about both of them.
Ohh yes you should! They are both amazing, I think you’d really like them 🙂 Thank you so much Catia! <3
I’ve only read The Sky is Everywhere and Everything,Everything. Great list 🙂
Thank you so much! Well I hope you’ll want to read the other books on here 🙂
This is a great list!!
Oh thank you so much Amanda! 🙂
I’m sure at least some of these books must have been released this year! But either way I am so so glad to see CInder and The Wrath and the Dawn have made your list; they are all-time favourites of mine and I am so so glad they’ve lived up to their hype for you! Now hopefully you’ll enjoy the sequels just as much! 😀
I do need to read more contemporary books but I agree with you on The Sky is Everywhere and Isla and the Happily Ever After, both are absolutely amazing. Also there are books you featured on your list this week that I am definitely going to have to pick up, and soon too! 😀
Great picks for this week Marie! <3
Ahah, well probably, to be honest I didn’t really check, haha 😛 I hope I will, both sequels are on my summer TBR so I’ll read those hopefully very soon 🙂
Thank you so, so much! <3
Neither did I, but out of the ten at least one must be from this year 😀
Ohh, I know that feeling. I’m gonna do another contemporary month in July so I can get through pretty much everything on my summer to-read list, but I can’t wait for you to read, you’ll have to let me know what you think when you’ve finished! 🙂
That’s all right ❤️
Ahah, well summer is the perfect time to get through ALLL those cute contemporaries, so… I can’t wait to know all your thoughts about contemporaries -because you know my love for those is infinite 😛
That’s exactly what I thought, I can sit in my garden in the sunshine and read all afternoon on my Kindle 🙂 that’s pretty much my perfect summer!
Oh yes, a lot of the ones I plan to read are ones I saw on your blog first! 😀
It is my perfect summer as well – with a bit of travelling, of course 😀
Oh yay, SO impatient 😀
I may have to add some travel plans into my summer, at the moment I don’t have any and that just won’t do! 🙂
OHHH yes you need, maybe, you know, you can stop by France a bit 😉
Ohh yes, that would be amazing, and you can let me know all the things to see and do in France! 😀
Of course I will, and all the best places to EAT as well, the great bookshops and everything 😀
Ohh, now I’m getting excited! May definitely need to start planning a trip to France soon! 🙂
OH yes, you should! 😀
Did you read the entire Never Never series? I was so annoyed with the ending. It’s by far my least favorite CoHo book.
I did…my review is coming up at the end of the week. I was disappointed by the ending as well, I expected so much more from it :/
I can’t wait to read your review. I thought there would be some cool supernatural element to it. Not even close. ?
I thought EXACTLY the same, and, well… I kind of screamed at the book, saying “WHAT? that’s IT?” ??
I was so angry I almost stopped reading CoHo even though I love her books. I decided to read the rest and wasn’t disappointed. I think it was the author she collaborated with. It made zero sense. That’s a good example of a weak plot.
Oh well I’m glad to hear you loved her other books, it makes me eager to get to these. I’m also glad to hear that little weakness at the end was just a unique case. I’ll look forward to more books from her 🙂
It was definitely out of character for a CoHo book. The books she’s written on her own always have a good ending that’s tied up.
Oh well that’s good to know then 🙂
Oh I LOVE The Sky is Everywhere. Read it recently and it’s so beautiful. Hope to read Everything Everything soon. Here’s my TTT!
Oh I’m so glad to hear you liked it 🙂 Did you read I’ll Give You The Sun as well, or not? <3 Thank you so much 🙂
Yes, I’ll Give You The Sun blew me away, such an incredible book 🙂
Oh yay, so glad you loved it as well! 😀
Cinder and Only Ever Yours were both absolutely amazing, weren’t they? So glad you enjoyed them as much as I did Marie! <3 Thanks for sharing, and great choices!
They WERE, oh I loved those so much! <3 Thank you so much Zoe! 🙂
I haven’t read any of these ? They’re all on my TBR though so it’s good to see you enjoyed them! I love books with multi-povs so Seven Ways We Lie sounds super interesting to me. I might have to bump that up!
Ohh I hope you’ll get to read those soon. If you love multiple POV, I think you might really enjoy Seven Ways We Lie, it’s a fast, sweet, great read! 🙂 Can’t wait to hear your thoughts about it 🙂
