Hello friends, how are you? How’s your week so far? What wonderful book are you reading today? Let me know, we can never have too many book recommendations, right?
Today is book tag day, and I was tagged by the sweet Mariana @ Book is Glee to do the Dim Sum book tag! So, I think that I’ve actually never eaten this… Should I hide in shame? Should I eat this RIGHT NOW? Well, right now, after doing this tag, obviously. There’s no better combo than FOOD AND BOOKS.

1. TEA: A BOOK THAT STARTED OFF HOT BUT QUICKLY TURNED COLD
Magonia was one of those books I was so excited to read, and when I got into it, I was half saying, oh, this is good and promising, and half wondering just what the hell was going on. I think, in the end, it wasn’t really for me. Too bad for such a promising start.
2. CHIU CHOW DUMPLING: A BOOK THAT FEATURES ELEMENTS OF LAND A
ND SEA
Hm, right now I can only think about The Summer I Turned Pretty series? I mean, it takes place in a summer house close to the beach, so that counts, right. Plus, it’s such a guilty pleasure, I love that series so much.
3. RICE NOODLE ROLL: A FAVORITE MULTI-LAYERED CHARACTER YOU’VE READ (I.E. TRAITS? SKILLS?MORALLY AMBIGUOUS?)
I want to talk about Elyse from The Summer of Chasing Mermaids, because she was such a wonderful AND diverse character. (And because yes, I NEED SUMMER to come soon) She certainly had way more things to say than she sadly could, and, the more I got into the story, the more I discovered her and how great she was. A must-read if you like contemporary.
4. SHRIMP DUMPLING: A BOOK WITH A TRANSPARENT BLURB THAT GIVES THE STORY AWAY
I don’t know if it really gives the whole story away, but right now the only book I can think about is 99 days. Because well, when you read the synopsis, you expect certain things to happen, and certain mistakes to be done. And yes it happens. And yes it is ANNOYING.
5. STEAMED BBQ PORK BUNS: A BOOK THAT IS FLUFFY ON THE OUTSIDE BUT PACKS A PUNCH OF FLAVOR (E.G. MESSAGE? DEPTH? CONTROVERSY?)
I recently read and loved #Scandal, and I kind of want to go with that one for that question. It seems kind of fluffy, from the synopsis, and cliché -I mean, a girl in love with her bestfriend’s boyfriend? BUT it was so good, and definitely tackled some important issues such as social medias, rumors, slut shaming and everything.
6. CHICKEN FEET: A BOOK WITH DIVIDED OPINIONS
Hm, maybe I’ll go with, We were liars. I loved that book, I was completely thrown off by THAT ENDING, yet there are a lot of people who didn’t fell for it/didn’t like it.
7. LOTUS-WRAPPED STICKY RICE: A BOOK YOU’VE RECEIVED/GIVEN THAT WAS NICELY PACKAGED
I want to talk about Kindred Spirits, because the wonderfully sweet Kat send me a free copy, since she received like 50 of them, ahah. And she was so, so sweet sending it to me, with such a lovely card. I feel so lucky to meet people like her.
8. EGG CUSTARD TART: A BOOK THAT USES SIMPLE INGREDIENTS AND CLICHÉS BUT EXECUTES IT PERFECTLY
I’m thinking about one of my favorites from last year, Emmy & Oliver? I mean, best friends romance is kind of cliché, BUT it works. For me, at least. All the time.
9. MANGO PUDDING WITH EVAPORATED MILK: ANY BOOK RECOMMENDATION + BEVERAGE/SNACK THAT’S A WINNING COMBINATION

Is it bad if I want to go with the obvious and talk about Simon and oreos? Or Lara Jean and, well, CAKE and cookies? No? Okay, then.
10. FRIED SESAME BALLS: A BOOK WITH EMBOSSED TEXT/DESIGN YOU JUST LOVE TO RUN YOUR FINGERS OVER
I can’t choose. What do you mean, it’s not normal to PAT ALL OF OUR BOOKS FOREVER?
11. DIM SUM STEAM CART: THE TYPE OF CARRYING BAG YOU USE TO BRING BOOKS AROUND(TAKE A PICTURE)
I don’t use a particular type of bag… Should I take a picture of all of my bags? Because obviously, I’m taking a book everywhere with me, no matter where I’m going. #bookwormforever
Eep, Simon and oreos make the perfect combination! I think I answered the exact same thing when I did this tag a while back, haha – pretty much no other food combination rings in my head (although I’m not really good at these things anyway). But Lara Jean and cake work as well; she was just so adorable. 😛
I definitely always take books wherever I go, but that’s only because I read a lot of ebooks on my phone and I take my phone wherever I go. 😛
They really do! There aren’t enough food in books, I took ages to try and find other books, and then, well, I couldn’t, ahah. That’s too bad! 🙂
Ohh, well that’s practical indeed! But it doesn’t hurt your eyes too much? <3
I know! One thing I can think off is Harry Potter, but that’s such an overdone answer for pretty much all the tags. :p
It doesn’t, surprisingly! But my eyes are thankfully so far pretty resilient (though I do wear glasses – well, contacts really). It’s probably less damaging on your eyes to read physical books though, which is why I try to do so when I can.
Oh yes right, ahah, well, at least if you have no ideas, there’s always Harry Potter to the rescue 😛
Oh, well as long as it doesn’t hurt you, that’s okay I guess! 😀 But yes, nothing can replace the real physical books <3
I love your choices, especially Emmy & Oliver and We Were Liars. I loved both of them.
Aww thank you so much, so glad you agree 🙂
I always have a book in my purse. Right I have two books in my purse because I’m almost finished reading one.
OH yay! I think having a book to read is a MUST, at all times, <3 Thank you for stopping by! 🙂
Gaah ! Not read any of this, awful I know. And I never ate Dim Sum either though I did the tag hahaha.
We were liars is on my TBR.
And I received Kindred Spirits from Kat as well, so YAY!
OHHH, read We were liars soon, PLEASE? It was so good, I swear, I loved it, and I’m sad I can never re-read it for the first time. I hope you’ll love it 😀
Kat is way too sweet! <3 Kindred Spirits is a really cute story, I hope you'll love it as well! Thank you <3<3
Okay, soon promise (How are we going to read ALL THE BOOKS soon hahaha)
Yeah, that’s a shame, I really wish I could.
Yees she is! I hope so too <3
Ahah, I have NO idea, but we will, we can do this 😛
Yes, yes, yes, I believe in us !
YES me too, we can do this! With a lot of buddy-reading 😛
Definitely, TONS of it hahaha.
I don’t know how we’re going to do it, but WE ARE, ahah 😛
Yep, yep I agree with that, 100% We’ll do it, no matter how !
This is such a cute tag!! I loved your answers Marie ❤️ And I am so glad to hear that you enjoyed The Summer I Turned Pretty Trilogy, it is on my 2016 Summer TBR ?
Thank you so much Jenna! <3 If you feel like doing it, well I would LOVE to read your answers 🙂 Oh, I can't wait for you to read that series. It's just perfect for summertime! 🙂
I just might have to do that ? And oh Marie!!! You HAVE to try dim sum!!! It is so so delicious ❤️❤️❤️
Oh yes, I can’t wait to read your answers! Well, I’ll take your word for it, I need to try it soon then 😀
I just might have to do that ? And oh Marie!!! You HAVE to try dim sum! It is so so delicious ❤️❤️❤️
Oh my goodness, I love this tag! I was completely blown away by the ending of We Were Liars, I can’t believe that there are people who didn’t like the book?!? It seems like everyone who has ordered kindered spirits is receiving 50 books at once, but it’s nice that your friend gave you a copy <3 Wouldn't it be cool if we all received 50 copies of our favorite book?
Ohh, well if you love it, I’m tagging you! I would love to read your answers, if you feel like doing it, of course 🙂
I’m kind of confused as well, I was completely blown-away by this book, and it makes me sad that some people didn’t like it 🙁
Oh yes, it’s so sweet of her, really, that book was great! THAT would be the dream, but….we would need more space in our bookshelves, ahah 😛
Thank you so much! <3 <3
Aww! Thanks, I’m excited to participate in it!
I can’t wait to read your answers! 😀
Simon VS. the Homosapiens Agenda is my next read, and I’m so excited! I’ll make sure to eat Oreos as I read it.
PLUS, I’d like to ask you if I should continue reading The Summer I Turned Pretty Trilogy. I gave the first book 3/5 stars and I’m not sure how I feel about the other ones? I’ll probably get annoyed by it, but there’s something really adictive about them, so I don’t know what to do about it. What do you think?
Always a pleasure hearing from you, Marie! <3
Ohh really? I can’t wait to hear your thoughts about that book, it was so cute, such a great read, and yes, must go with Oreos 🙂
Well, I get that some people would find those books a bit annoying, but personally, I found them quite addictive and wanted to know what would happen next. But, if you were bothered by the main character, I’m a bit scared you’ll just get even more annoyed as the story goes on… maybe try and read it while not expecting too much but a light, fluffy summer read, is good as well 🙂
Oh, you’re so sweet, it’s always a pleasure to see you here, Lais, you’re the sweetest! <3
Loved reading your answers! I definitely agree with you on 99 Days! I’ve seen so many people got disappointed with Magonia but the cover looks beautiful. 😀
Oh yes, the cover is absolutely gorgeous, one of the shallow reasons I don’t regret buying it, hahaha. It still was an interesting read, but I think maybe I wasn’t in the right mood for it either. If you’re curious, you should try it, maybe you’ll love it 🙂 Thank you! <3
Awe, you are making me blush over here again <3 I feel so lucky and grateful to know someone like you as well. 😀 It has been a blast to get to know you in the past couple of months.
You had some really great answers for the tag 😀
AWw, well I AM lucky and grateful just as well! <3 Thank you so much Kat, you're so sweet <3
I loved reading your picks for this tag! I would definitely pick Simon Vs and Oreos, I was so craving them by the time I finished the book 😀
Also I just finished We Were Liars today, and oh my god that twist. I thought I saw it coming, I honestly thought I knew what the big secret was but when the twist was actually revealed oh my god I was speechless. To say I didn’t see it coming was an understatement and it made me enjoy this book even more than I thought possible!
Great picks for this tag, several are on my to-read list and I can’t wait to get started on them now 😀
OH yes, me too, I think there should be a warning beforehand, like, have Oreos close to you before getting into this book, ahha!
OH really?! I am thrilled to hear you say that! I was completely thrown off by that twist as well, I imagined a lot of things, but not that. It was chilling, really, I couldn’t speak. So glad you liked it! 😀
Yes that would have been helpful. If I ever re-read this book I’ll have to make sure I have some on hand before I start 😀
See I thought the twist was the fire itself, so when it started being referenced I honestly thought I knew what was coming. But then the real twist came and oh my god I honestly could not have been more shocked. It was definitely chilling but at the same time going back and re-reading parts it make sense! It was a brilliant book. I added an extra star for the twist 😀
OH yes! This makes me so sad though, to know I can never read that book again for the first time, experience the shock of that twist, at the end! But,I still feel like re-reading it someday, to see if I could have seen it coming… I guess there were clues, but I was so into the story, I didn’t get it, ahah. OHH really, so that’s how many stars? 😀
I suppose, but maybe knowing the twist you can go back and see some of the interactions between the Liars with that knowledge and maybe pick up things you missed the first time around. And yeah like you said if you could have seen it coming.
Probably five, four for the story and the characters but after that twist I had to make it five stars. Honestly it was so shocking!
Oh yes, you’re right, I’m sure we could find out some clues, now that we know what’s going to happen. But it kind of takes the whole surprise, and a bit of the pleasure of reading it as well. I think there’s nothing like reading an incredible book for the first time 😀
Yes there are definitely going to be little hints. It was a massive twist but it wasn’t something that came completely out of the blue either. Looking back there were things I realised when it was all revealed; like the three Liars never actually went up to the house with the others.
God no there’s nothing like it. It would be amazing if there was a way you could read books again for the first time if you really enjoyed them. I guess we have to settle for re-reads though!
Oh yes, you’re right, we would see all of the little hints if we read back very carefully. I was so caught up in the story, I just wanted to read it all, and see what was the deal, so I didn’t have patience to pay attention, ahah.
It’s what I’m going to do one day. I’ve only just finished the book so I’ll wait a little before I go back and re-read it 😀 I know what you mean though, the first time I read We Were Liars I just needed to find out how it all ended I didn’t really pay attentions to the small, subtle details.
I’m definitely going to do this as well, well…one day, ahah, because I really want to re-read it 🙂
I’ll probably have to re-read it again in the future. It’s too good a book not to pick up again I think!
Oh yes, I agree 😀
Yes We Were Liars did divide opinion- but obviously everyone that didn’t like it was just wrong cos it’s FANTASTIC! :p Nah in all seriousness, I can see why some people didn’t like the writing style- but I loved it!! And I got Kindred Spirits from Kat too in a giveaway- it was so exciting!
I can see it as well, it was really unusual, but for me, it was brilliant. I couldn’t stop thinking about that crazy ending, really! OHH yes, KAT is the best, so glad you won! I hope you’ll enjoy it, it’s a too-short but too-cute book 😛
Me too! I loved that ending- it blew me away- it actually managed to surprise me and that doesn’t happen often enough! She really is!! 😀 I was ecstatic about it- and I really did enjoy it- thank you!! I thought it captured that feeling of being totally obsessed with something and in love with it perfectly!!
Ohh I’m so, so glad you liked it, yes it perfectly captured this feeling 🙂
It really does!
Oohhh. Gonna try out Emmy and Oliver. You’re right best friends and and romance never gets tiring. I need a rest from gothic horror guuhh
I’m so glad you like this trope as well. It really never gets old, and makes me smile like an idiot all the time, ahah. Emmy & Oliver was such a cute book, I hope you’ll love it! 🙂
Great tag! I’ve only read Simon though XD
Thank you so much! Well, I hope this added some books to your TBR then 😛
You’re welcome! My TBR consists of mainly YA books everyone but me as read. I think this added more to it 😀
Aww, well I hope you won’t be disappointed by all of these! 😀
I hope so too 🙂
Oh my goodness Summer series is my favorite as well! Belly is so obnoxious but I like how realistically she was portrayed. Ahh I wish there’s such a thing as “unread” button so I can read the series again 😀
It’s such a great series, I love to re-read it in the summer, but with all the books on my TBR, I feel like I won’t have the time, that makes me sad. I loved it so, so much! <3 Thank you so much Trisha! <3
Ah such an interesting tag!! Really creative categories and you are so amazing for being able to find books for all of them. Hahaha
I do take a book with me everywhere I go, but I had to donate/sell lots of books recently because I live so tiny now I have no bookshelf place :(( so usually I just have audio books and ebooks because everything else would just clutter our tiny room!
So hungry for dim sum now!
Aww so glad you like it! Would you like to do it? I’d love to read your answers 😀
Oh no! I get it, where I am right now I don’t have a lot of place, and books are piling up, well, everywhere, but I can’t help it, I just love physical books way too much 🙂
Thank you so much Josephine! <3
I want to read Emmy & Oliver now. It sounds so cute!
And this tag is adorable, I haven’t seen it around before! Ooh, I also bring a book with me wherever I go. People tease me about it, but it’s such a comforting habit. It’s like you have a friend in your bag and you’ll never be bored!
OH YES PLEASE, read it, it was so cute and funny and just wonderful, I think you would love it 🙂 This tag is so much fun, you should do it, I’d love to read your answers <3
You're right, it's definitely comforting, I love having a book around all the time <3
I also have many many bags– I got one that is turquoise and says ‘Save Tibet” and another red and white stripey zigzag bag that I made myself! I recently read ‘To all the boys I’ve loved before’ and I thought it was pretty awesome– now I want to read PS I love you. I also thought that Emmy and Oliver was amazing. I really want to read Kindred Spirits, it sounds good even though I don’t know much about star wars and I haven’t yet seen The Force Awakens. Fun tag!
Thank you so much Shanti! 🙂 I am obsessed with bags, and I ALWAYS want to get new ones, ahah, I can’t help it. Kindred Spirits was a cute read, I’m not an expert on Star Wars either, but it was still really fun to read, I hope you’ll enjoy it 🙂
Awesome tag! I loved We Were Liars too. It really is one of those books that you will enjoy or dislike for some reason. Also, so much yes to that blurb on 99 Days. That was so disappointing. <3
Thank you so, so much, I’m so glad you agree! 🙂 We should give each other recommendations more often, seems like we have the same taste in books 😀
I LOVED We were Liars and I was so surprised to see people didn’t really like it. Loved the tag!
Thank you so much Mica! I know, but I guess everyone wasn’t surprised, or happy with the twist… It didn’t make me happy, it made me bawl like a baby, hahaha, but well, it was still a GOOD, unexpected twist 🙂 Thank you so much! <3
This post just made me realise how many books I have to read *goes to cry in a corner*
I guess a series with divided opinions is the Throne of Glass series. I still need to read the last one but even before that, the books have people who love them and hate them.
And OF COURSE I TAKE BOOK WITH ME EVERYWHERE!
Haha, oh you’re not alone, I want to cry thinking about ALL the books on my TBR, as well, but…at least this means we’ll always have something to read, right? 😀
Oh, I need to read the Throne of Glass series, I hope I’ll enjoy it 🙂
Thank you so much! <3
We’ll be reading well into our old age with the amount of our never ending TBRs!
The first book is alright, but then after the series gets better! Hope you like it when you start!
Ahah yes we will! Oh, I’m glad to hear so, I can’t wait to keep on going with the series then 🙂
