Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Brokeandbookish. This week’s theme is a Freebie, so I have decided to talk about Ten Books I have read BEFORE I started blogging. There are TONS of books, but I just picked out ten, because…well that’s the rule, haha and for once I’ll go with that 😉 If you want to discover the wonderful books, click on the title for a link to Goodreads!
1 • The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins
I don’t remember how long ago I’ve read these books, but they definitely shaped my love for YA books.
2 • The Chronicles of Narnia, C.S. Lewis
Ohh I read those books when I was a child – pre teen, most likely, I don’t remember really well because my memory is terrible, BUT I feel like there is still something very magical to that story.
3 • Looking for Alaska, John Green
I’m becoming kind of predictable there now, aren’t I? What can I say. First loves….
4 • Never Let Me Go, Kazuo Ishiguro
Not really a YA book, but still a MIND-BLOWING story you should all check out.
5 • The Au Pairs, Melissa De La Cruz
Now, THIS was my go-to read for the summer. A group of girls being au pairs and living great adventures? YES.
6 • Uglies, Scott Westerfeld
I am a bit surprised that book isn’t around much in the book blogging community. Sure, it’s yesterday’s news, but it was SO good. Or am I the only one thinking that?.
7 • Pretty Little Liars, Sara Shepard
I was OBSESSED with this series. Then I learned that another 100 books were about to be released, and my brains just froze, like, “NO”.
8 • Harry Potter, J.K Rowling
That one, you saw it coming as well, right? Read it not THAT long ago, but definitely before I started blogging.
9 • Delirium, Lauren Oliver
That book was a huge slap in the face, one that said: THIS IS FANTASTIC. I love this book.
10 • The Host, Stephenie Meyer
Okay, I don’t know if a lot of you guys read that book? I found the world and the story quite original, I liked it.

I read 6 of these, yay!
My reading life before blogging was drastically different than it is now. I read at lot less back then, so I appreciate how productive my reading has become, even if I now have less time for other hobbies.
Yay! Oh me too, well I still read, but not as much, and I feel the same way that you do. I feel so much more productive, and happy, reading really has become a huge part of my life, and I love it 🙂 Thank you so much!! <3
haha that was my exact experience with Pretty Little Liars! I stayed with it for a bit, but after a while I just couldn’t keep up with that never-ending series. It got way too complicated for what it was and just dragged on forever!
Haha I’m glad I’m not the only one feeling this way, it was just toooooo long. I wish there weren’t so many books :/ Thank you Holly!
I read many of these before being a blogger ?
Oh yay! I’m glad we have that in common!! <3
Oh man, that reminds me I still need to get to Uglies. *runs and goes write it down on a note* I love Looking for Alaska, it’s my second favorite John Green book after Paper Towns. I just have a thing for stories about manic pixie dream girls and their deconstruction. I even tried writing it once, but I think I just managed MPDG instead of deconstructing it.
OH YES you should get Uglies right now. I’ll make sure to remind you ahah ALL THE TIME now. I loved that book and I want to know your thoughts about it now.
I’m so happy you love these books as well, there’s something about these kind of stories that make me want to read it, really 🙂 Thank you so much Jamie!
Haha, I’ll try not to forget it again. I’ve written a note about it, so hopefully not. Those stories are really great! 😀
Make notes, I’ll remind you every now and then, oh, by the way, you remember that book you needed to read? 😉
😀
I still love Harry Potter, and honestly can’t see that changing. The way I thought of Narnia as a child has changed now (but still good).
The Host I found interesting until about halfway through, then it got boring and tedious, and the ending really let me down. I wouldn’t recommend it.
It’s funny how some books change when we grow up, and some others just keep their magic. I love that 🙂 Too bad you didn’t enjoy The Host :/ Thank you for stopping by 🙂
I have only read a few of these, but some of the others I have on my TBR 🙂
Ohh well I hope you’ll enjoy the books on your TBR! Which one do you want to read first? 😀
It’s a tough tie between Never Let Me Go and Delirium – the first I only recently added to my TBR and the second I have had in my TBR for as long as I have had Goodreads!! So, I probably should read delirium first…
Oh well…I’m obviously going to tell you to read both ahah 🙂 there are some mixed reviews about Delirium, but it’s one of my favorite series of all times. I hope you’ll read it first because I want to know NOW how you like it 😀
Lol, I will put my hands on a copy and read it just for you 🙂
Awww yes, please do! (well, I don’t know if it’s such a good idea, what if you hate it and blame me? *runs and hides*)
Great post! 🙂
I read the Hunger Games before blogging as well. The Hunger Games series is actually the series that got me really into loving books and reading so much.
Thank you so much Ashley! <3 OH yes, me too, well if I read before that book, it definitely made me more of a crazy reader than before, ahah 🙂
I love The Hunger Games! I have so much love for that series it’s crazy. I bought the first 8 Pretty Little Liars books in a bundle and haven’t read more than two chapters. I’m so bad. I watched some of the show and then forgot what happened. I was thinking about re-watching it from the beginning. I love the actor who plays Ezra. ?
Oh yes, I love it too, so, so much! What did you think about the movie adaptations? 🙂
I think I bought the PLL series, and read until the, 12th book maybe? This series is just way too long, and that’s sad because if it ended after the 8th book, it would have been so, so great. I hate when a series drags on and on and onnnn.
Ohhh YES me too, Ian Harding is so gorgeous!
Great choice for this freebie week !
Thank you so much Flo! 😀
I love this idea for a TTT! There are so many new books being released every day, it’s easy for some of our older favorites to get lost in the shuffle 🙂
My TTT.
OH thank you Allyson, glad you like it! You’re right, they get so easily forgotten, I’m glad I could remember them with that topic 🙂
I used to read a lot of thrillers before I started blogging. And.manga, I guess. I only discovered hyped books and YA when I started
Ohh I used to read manga as well, before I started book blogging 🙂 there are just SO many different books ahah 🙂 I hope you’re enjoying YA though, now that yo’ure discovering it more! 😀 Thank you so much!
So far, my experience with YA is a mixture of happiness and frustration. But i guess that’s what make it so exciting. Hahaha
Hahaha, well you’re right, this way you’re always surprised 😉
I have so so many books I read before I started blogging, mainly because I only started blogging November last year, and before that I probably read a few hundred books or so!
But some of these are favourite series of mine. It took me ages to get around to The Hunger Games, but both Harry Potter and the Chronicles of Narnia are books I grew up with so they’re always going to have that sense of nostalgia surrounding them for me! 🙂
Also oh I loved the Uglies books, so you’re definitely not the only person who thinks that, and now you mentioned it yeah I am kind of surprised they’re not mentioned more on the book
blogging community! I may have to re-read this series again soon! 😀
Great picks for this week, and a great topic as well! 🙂
I keep forgetting you’re still young to the blogging community, I feel like I’ve been seeing your blog and talking to you since, well, forever <3 <3
I'm so, so glad you like Uglies as well! It's such a good series, kind of forgotten here in the bookish community -well, I feel like it- and it makes me a bit sad! I love these books so much 🙂
Thank you Beth!! <3 <3
Ha, yeah, hasn’t been long that I’ve been on WordPress if you think of it that way. But I know what you mean, I feel like we’ve been talking way longer than we have, and honestly it’d feel weird now to go too long without talking to you <3
No I completely know what you mean, until you mentioned it in your TTT I'd kind of forgotten about it a little. It was an amazing series, I remember talking about it with my friend, we were going crazy waiting for the next book to be released at the time 🙂
That's all right <3
OH yes I can’t imagine NOT talking to you for too long, and it would make me SO sad, really <3 I love how we can talk about everything <3
We really do don’t we, I wonder if there’s any topic we haven’t covered yet! 🙂
Same here, you’re one of the best people I’ve met through WordPress! ❤️
Well, if there’s a topic we haven’t covered yet, we will eventually, that I am sure of it! 😀 <3 <3
I’ve read two of these!!
My reading life before blogging consisted of mainly Tween and Children’s books. After reading an…. Interesting YA book, I had stopped reading YA. Since I started blogging, I have began to love YA 🙂
Yaay! 😀 Oh, well I’m so glad you got back into YA and found some great books, it’s just the best when you can find great books like that thanks to this little bookish community 🙂
I’m glad too! YA has helped me learn more about the world and books in general. I love this bookish community to bits and love having things to talk about like YA 😀
OH yes, me too, I love it so much. Plus, it allowed me to meet YOU so it’s all for the best 😀
Aww! I’m so glad I got to meet YOU and all the other amazing book bloggers 🙂
I also read The Hunger Games, Delirium, Harry Potter and The Host before I even heard of book blogging and I loved each and every one of them! And I do still love them today! I may have become a bit more critical of books, but I still consider how I feel when reading a book as the most important and if I loved them once, they will keep a special place in my book-loving heart 🙂
Oh yay, we have so much in common, that’s so great!! <3 I feel the same way: I've become way more critical about everything in books, but I try to always hold on to what books make me feel 🙂 Thank you!! <3
I started blogging this year, so 8/10 of these books are ones I read waaaay before 2016 and I’m hesitant to go back and review them now. I think Uglies is definitely one of those books that I enjoyed the first time around, but if I tried reading it again, I would hate it. Either way, awesome list! Feel free to check out my TTT for this week: https://dianaprincereviews.wordpress.com/2016/06/28/top-ten-tuesday-bloggers-choice/
Oh really, why are you hesitant? You always can! 🙂 Thank you so, so much 🙂
I’m worried I won’t like them as much as I did the first time around. I did actually reread Harry Potter recently, because my roommate was reading the series for the first time ever! Those are always fantastic. I didn’t like Delirium at all the second time around, though. I’ll have to think about it some more, but maybe I will end up going back to more of these old reads 🙂
Oh I completely get it. That’s why I’m sometimes a bit scared of reading my old books again, I’d rather keep the happy memories untouched ahah 🙂
I’ve read quite a few of these on your list 🙂 The Host was a particular favourite of mine.
OH I’m so glad you liked it, I thought The Host was a great book as well! 😀
Nice topic!! I haven’t read any of the books in your post. But they sound good. 🙂
Here’s a link to my TTT post for this week:
http://captivatedreader.blogspot.com/2016/06/top-ten-tuesday-freebie-week-things-i.html
Thank you so much Lisa, I hope you’ll want to add some of these to your TBR 🙂
Great topic! I read The Host back in the day and I think I liked it. Now, I doubt I would. Not really into aliens. 😉
My TTT: http://www.anovelglimpse.com/2016/06/28/top-ten-tuesday-freebie-top-ten-books-that-broke-my-heart-a-little/
Thank you so much! 🙂 Oh I get it, well people change, and we like different things. I remember really liking the originality of it all, but I have no idea how I’d feel about it now ahah 🙂
I’ve read most of those, though I still have The Au Pairs and Never Let Me Go on my TBR list. I am more critical of the books I read now, and I’m a little sad about taht, but at the same time, I’m reading more and I get to interact with other bloggers, which is so much fun! Great list! Here’s mine. Happy reading!
I feel the same way, like I sometimes maybe enjoy less books I would have loved before, because I’m more critical, you know? But well yes, the community and everything, it’s all the best 😀 thank you!
I definitely read a few of these before I was a blogger too!
My TTT: https://jjbookblog.wordpress.com/2016/06/28/top-ten-tuesday-63/
Glad I’m not the only one 🙂 thank you!
I love The Host! Soooo much.??
And of course I’m a potterhead for life.?
I’ve read The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe way, way back. Great list.?

Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Books I’m Psyching Myself Up To Read – http://wp.me/p7ksIu-7J
Thank you so, so much Angie, I’m so glad you liked these books as well 🙂
Never Let Me Go sounds brilliant! I need to read it soon 🙂 the only other Kazuo Ishiguro novel I’ve read is The Remains of the Day, and that was SO GOOD. He’s a great writer 🙂
It was so, so good, I loved it. I’d re-read it, but it will never have the same impact as it did the first time :/ Oh I need to read that one then 🙂
Definitely 🙂 and I’ve heard that When We Were Orphans is a good one too. 🙂
Ohh I haven’t heard about that one, I need to check it out as well then! thank you! 🙂
The Hunger Games and Delirium off your list, but Twilight for me too! I got into a definite vampire mood then read the Morganville Vampire series too. 🙂
OH yes, there were so many vampire stories back then, I remember reading a lot of these as well 🙂 thank you so much for stopping by!
The Hunger Games series is one that I read before I became a blogger. I would love to re-read it, but I am sure that I will never find a space in my schedule! Love this post idea. 🙂
Ahah, well you sound just like me! I always feel like re-reading some books, but it’s hard, there are too many new books I want to get to before that. Thank you so much! <3
I also read THG, Narnia, Never Let Me Go, Pretty Little Liars, Harry Potter, and Delirium before I started blogging! Tbh I’ve forgotten many of them, haha. I haven’t read The Host yet because Twilight turned me off Stephenie Meyer but I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed it! I might eventually check it out just to see what it’s about. 🙂
We have so much in common, I love it <3 I get it, personally I found the story quite original and different, but the beginning is a bit slow if I remember correctly, and confusing. Once I got into it, it was very good 🙂 I hope you'll want to check it out sometime! 🙂
IKR I think we’ll be great friends if we live anywhere close! It’s too bad. 🙂
Oooh, thanks for letting me know! Slow beginnings often make me DNF books and I need to be told what to expect. 😀
It is too bad, yes 🙁 But well, someday I WILL come to Australia (it’s one of my biggest dreams, really, even if I’m definitely not dreaming of huge reptiles haha) and we will have a bookish day and eat great food and talk all day long 😀
Of course! I tend to get bothered by slow beginnings as well, but for some reason I rarely DNF books. I’m glad I warned you then 🙂
I’ve been in Aus for about six years now and I’ve never actually seen any huge reptile unless it’s in the zoo, haha. Really not sure where that stereotype came from! I promise that if you stay with me all day long we won’t be seeing any huge reptile. 😛
Ohhh THANK YOU for saying that, I feel much better now. I have no idea, I just got this picture in my mind, and it’s scary ahah. YES, that’s a deal then 😀
Ooh I love this topic! I was obsessed with the Pretty Little Liars books, but then I stopped reading them after like book 5? I’ve considered rereading them, but there’s so many now I don’t know haha. Also Harry Potter is everything. And Looking For Alaska! I love that so much.
Oh thank you Lauren! I used to be so obsessed as well, but then I heard there were still 102458 books to read and it bothered me. I just wanted to figure out the whole mystery, but it was endless. Too bad, it was such a good series!
And yes you love looking for alaska as well? LET ME HUG YOU LAUREN. <3 <3 <3 <3
Here is a HP and Narnia fan waving at you. I havent read the Uglies. But heard alot about it
Yay, hi! So glad you’re a fan as well 🙂 Uglies was such a great series, I absolutely loved it. I hope you’ll want to give it a try someday! 🙂
I’m so glad to see Never Let Me Go on your list! I loved it – and the movie adaptation!
Check out my TTT.
OH thank you so much! I actually haven’t seen the movie yet, but I’m so glad to hear you liked it. Maybe I’ll watch it soon then 🙂
Did you ever get a chance to watch the un-aired (?) pilot for Delirium starring Emma Roberts? It was actually really bad and haphazardly written (I think they crammed the entire first book into 1 episode; or at least bits of it). Anyways, point is: I’d love to hear what you think of it since you at least enjoyed the book/series!
Cheers,
Joey via. thoughts and afterthoughts.
I did, and well…you know that feeling when they DESTROY a book you love? Well that was it. They crammed the whole first book into the episode, but it was all kind of messy, badly written (and acted, if you ask me), and I felt so sad. That book is so good, and the whole idea behind it had so much potential…And it was all wasted in just one episode :/
I read some of these before I was a blogger too!
My TTT: https://jjbookblog.wordpress.com/2016/06/28/top-ten-tuesday-63/
OH yay, glad we have that in common 🙂 Thank you 🙂
I read The Host before I started blogging as well, but I don’t remember it that much. Also totally feel you on Pretty Little Liars haha. I never started it, but I was interested in it until I found out how many books there were (and back then there were more coming). So I just stuck with the tv show 😛
Haha well I understand, it’s a bit disheartening when you know there are just SO many books :/OH are you still watching the tv show and liking it? 😀
I am! Though I’m a bit behind since I watch it with a friend and we’ve both been too busy to hang out and watch it. I can’t wait to watch the rest of season 6 though! 🙂 Are you still watching it as well?
Ohh great, well I’m glad if you like it! I stopped around season 3 I think, I don’t know if I’ll watch again or not…I was a bit annoyed at all the non-answers :/
Haha I can imagine! They are dragging it a bit, but I still find it amusing.
Oh well as long as you’re still enjoying it, that’s what matters 🙂
Yes, I’ve read The Host and enjoyed it very much. I relisten to the audiobook occasionally.
My TTT
OH yay I’m gl ad to hear you liked it 🙂
I liked The Host as well! At first I was bored, but as soon as she found the others in the desert – loved it!!!
Me too! Well, I was more confused than bored at first, but I loved it when she wasn’t alone anymore. Such a good story! 🙂
