Hello friends, how are you in this lovely Sunday? I am OVER the moon today, because well, it’s Sunday, and my wonderful family is travelling 600 km to see me tomorrow. I can’t wait. But I’m not going to do a post about my life, because would you read it? SO, other topic in hand today…or others. PLURAL. Because it’s time for some due freak-outs about some things here.
?
FREAKING OUT #1: the writing monster is here. And it ate me alive.
If you haven’t noticed the day, or/and didn’t participate in Camp NaNoWriMo, well… it’s done. It’s over, and so are the 20,000 words I wanted to type. I’ll cut myself some slack, because once in a while, I think I’m allowed to, and tell myself that I had NO idea what I was doing, where to start, and with life, the blog schedule and everything, I just didn’t have much time. Except if I gave up on reading, or blogging (can’t give up on adulting…That’s too bad). I WASN’T READY. So, okay, manuscript, you are resting in my computer, in my Scrivener, you’re waiting, and I am getting some cruel ideas about how to chop off some characters, kill some others and just make the whole thing a whole lot more bittersweet. Is that how editing’s supposed to work? Maybe, maybe not. All I know is, my fingers are still dying to write again, and time isn’t on my side. Hopefully it will be, sometimes. YES, I believe in that.

?
FREAKING OUT #2: all the books are here. And they are swallowing me whole.
I know you’re smiling, because, well, as bookworms, we buy a LOT of books. I’m sure you’re thinking about getting some new books right now, aren’t you? I sure am, and I sure do buy, a lot, since, living in France doesn’t allow me to go into too many English-only bookshops, and the English books section in bookshops is RIDICULOUSLY small. It makes me want to cry. And don’t make me start on libraries…they almost only have classics, or books I’m not interested in. I should open an English bookshop, but well, BACK to the point. Because of these reasons, and because is there something as beautiful as OWNING a thousand of beautiful books you can swim in, get caught under, fill your bookshelves with? I don’t think so. I know I love it. Because of that: I BUY books, a lot of them.
Handling a budget when it comes to books is harder than to resist when you get me in front of chocolate, and tell me I can’t eat it. When I start, I just want to buy ALL of the books. I’m telling myself I’ll get just one, or two, and end up with six in my basket. My wallet screams, my bank account cries, but I don’t listen, because, BOOKS.

I think it’s the wonderful Cait @ Paper Fury who mentioned one time there can’t be anything as owning TOO many books. Or was it having too many books on your TBR? Either way, it’s the SAME. Books are wonderful, and I just want to own them all, even if it means I’ll get to live in a place under a pile of books. So, even if I still have tons of books to read, I bought new ones. Ones I’m expecting A LOT from. Because they’re hyped, because people want me to read it (you are probably one of these people. I’m not mad. I love it. Please keep on going with the recs!). Because BOOKS ARE GREAT, and is there ANYTHING better than buying new books? I don’t think so.
Oh. What books did I buy? They’re all on the picture. So…what am I reading now?

I buy tonnes of books too as my library is not that up to date and has hardly any books that I want. The problem is now that I have too many books to read and I don’t know which one to start first #bookwormproblems
Haha, oh, well…at least it makes you happy, you have so many books to look forward to 😀 😀 Thank you so much for stopping by! 🙂
Marie, I’m coming for you … WHERE IS WOLF BY WOLF ? I don’t care about screaming wallets and crying bank accounts, read it NOW !!!
The siren is waving its hand at me though hahaha!
I’m glad you’re feeling inspired to write <3 even if time is not being a friend to you (or us for that matter)
And YAY for family coming to visit! It's awesome. Have fun ! <3
AHH, I need to put that one on my priority list next time, I PROMISE. So many books I wanted to read here though, for a long time, it’s just SO hard to choose!
Thank you so, so much, I can’t wait! 🙂 <3 <3
Hahaha it’s alright, I know the feeling ?
You’re welcome ! I’m here whenever you need me ❤
You really are the sweetest <3 <3
My writing monster has awakened as well! I am currently working on an adult-ish/NA romcom …because why not? I have no idea how I got this idea but it needs writing out, because I just keep picturing random scenes and they have to be connected now, but I also weep for Dreamer, because I haven’t gotten anywhere with it, but I want to revisit that as well.
And to be honest, I am a little overwhelmed with my books too. I have 17 (with the 4 that I will have to pick up from the shop this month because I pre-ordered them) sitting at home ready to be read. That’s some real pressure…
OHHH YES this makes me so happy, but I want to know more about that story! Are you going to write a post about it? Or tell me everything? You have to, I am SO curious right now! And you know me…I love a good romcom 😛
Woow, that’s a lot of books… but well, if this makes you feel less pressured, we can read some of these together 😛
It’s about a girl who has always done the “right” thing and now feels trapped in her life, so she’s running away, taking the first flight she can get. She ends up in a small English sea-side town where she meets a very charming pub owner. But being with him would mean a lot of responsibility as well, because he has a 5-year-old son and she can’t just run away from her old life forever either. That’s about what I have premise-wise so far.
AND WHERE DO I PRE-ORDER THIS BOOK, PLEASE? Seriously, you got me already by this synopsis, it sounds exactly like the kind of book I would read. And English sea-side town? I’m in love <3
Hahahah don’t be too over-enthusiastic. I am pretty decent at coming up with plot-ideas. The writing of the whole thing is the problem. 😛
Oh no, don’t say that, I’m sure everything will be okay, great, even! and if you need some coaching, I’m here 😀
Good to know! I might get back to you on that one!
Please, do, I’d love it if I could be of any help 🙂
I need people to bounce of ideas or who read scenes all the time, so you can be sure that I will ask at some point or another.
Ohh, well I can’t wait, I’d love to 🙂
And you know that I always like reading with you 😀
I don’t buy a ton at once but I buy a small amount of them often so they accumulate quickly over time, which means that though I bought a new bookshelf late last years (about half the size of my large one), it’s now stuffed and I have nowhere to put my books.
Oh yes, the struggle… I recently got a new bookshelf, but where I am right now, books are piling up EVERYWHERE, really everywhere, and I don’t have any space to put them… yet I keep ordering new ones. Books just spread everywhere, but… I don’t know, there’s something good about seeing books everywhere now, no? 😀
Thank you so much for stopping by! 😀
I don’t get books at the library, just like your libraries, ours barely have any English books. Even the biggest library in the city has a really small collection, and of course I’m not interested in any of the ones they do have haha. Besides buying books is so much better since I never have to return them and they can stay with me forever. And I’m sure you’ll have time to write soon and that you’ll rock your manuscript! 🙂 You can do it ?
OH yes, I agree with you on that. Even if it’s so bad for my wallet, I love having books and knowing I get to KEEP them. That’s just the best feeling <3 Thank you so, so much for the support, hopefully I'll get back to it when I have more time 😀
I won my Camp NaNo! Didn’t think the story turned out too well but at least it was a fun experience.
I’ve been buying books for the last three weekends. And will be going to a book sale tomorrow. Send help.
OH CONGRATULATIONS, you deserve an award and cake and that’s so awesome! 😀 The first draft is always supposed to be a bit messy, well mine certainly is, so don’t worry about it. I’m sure you will turn this story into something amazing once you edit it 😀
Haha, it’s just so hard to stop buying books… I can’t stop, either, haha.
Thank you so much! <3
Thanks! My first drafts are messy too and I hate the editing process. Haha. I’ll have to force myself to do it though. Some day. Eventually.
Meant to say this in the original comment, somehow slipped my mind. There’s another Camp NaNo in July, so you can join again and win that one. 😀
Ahah, I’ll have to do it as well, eventually…But I’m glad to hear you’ll be in the same situation. This way, we can support each other and well, cry together if this is too hard hahaha 😛 July will be too busy as well I think, ahah maybe I will try and do a NaNo month outside of the real NaNo ones 🙂
Ahh I totally agree – ALL THE BOOKS FOR ME PLEASE!
And argh NaNo – I was the same. Couldn’t find the time to write, and I feel guilty about that. Cant wait for our ‘make up’ NaNo month though, for when we are both free!
I would absolutely LOVE to have a NaNo “make-up” month, we should plan that out, well, when we’ll know when we’ll be available. That would be great, and I’m sure it’ll keep me motivated to write, with you by my side! 🙂
I totally understand what you are going through! Though I’m currently broke right now! *cries* And there’s a loooooot going on as well! But it’s perfectly okay to freak out sometimes and scream! *screams* Soo.. um yeah don’t worry, everything going to be all right! <3
Aww thank you so much, ahah I’m so glad I can freak out and you can understand, that’s so sweet <3 I am broke as well, but books are CALLING OUT to me, it's crazy, ahah. Thank you!! <3
Ahhh… The English bookshops in France… We need more ! And the ones in Cultura, la Fnac or others…. HAHAHAHA.
DEFINITELY need more. It makes me want to cry whenever I see the English bookshelves in those shops….
I didn’t do Camp NaNoWriMo, but I really want to next time!! I only have a vague idea of a story I want to write, but the whole experience sounds like a lot of fun! 😀
Ohmygoodness, I buy sooooo many books. I have absolutely no control, and like you said, my bank account unfortunately reflects that. I’m slowing down now with buying books because I have dozens and dozens of unread books that I haven’t read, and my roommate (who doesn’t read) was telling me that I should hold off on buying more books until I’ve read at least 1/3 of the current books I own… So I’m trying to do that now, but I doubt it’s going to last haha. 😛
It really is a lot of fun! I think for me NaNo really got me back into writing, and made me appreciate it more. Writing is such a solitary hobby, and it’s great to know there are loads of people writing at the same time! You’ll have to let me know if you participate next time 😀
Ahah, I’m trying to do that as well, but it’s so hard, there are new releases and old books I find out about everyday, and I want to buy them ALL right now, I don’t know, it feels so good to buy books ahha 😛 Thank you so, so much Jorelene! <3
I’d love to own lots of books and have a mini-library in my room. I always scream with happiness whenever I bought a new book and scream with frustration whenever I’m broke LOL! 😀
Hahaha, well you’re JUST like me then, ahah 😛
I don’t actually think I buy too many books – well, certainly not compared to some people! I see people on Twitter who are buying 20+ hardbacks a month, and I’m like… how?! How do you have the money for all that?! It makes my haul of around 3 paperbacks per month look pretty meager, haha! I get a lot of library books though, because my library tends to have lots of good books! They never have any good ones in stock, but you can order some, and most of the time, they have the ones you want. I always feel a little big icky reading library books though – the ones with thumb marks and food in the spines completely gross me out!

OH YES, I agree with you. I never bought more than maybe 8, 10 books, and that’s e-books and paperbacks and well, that’s even a lot. I did get cheap deals this month, but people who can just get 20 books per month…I’d love their bank account ahah 😛 It is so awesome when you can get books from your ilbrary, it’s so much cheaper, I wish I could do that as well! OHh yes, ugh, that’s annoying though… hopefully that doesn’t happen to you too often <3 Thank you so much Denise! <3
This is such an accurate post! There is no such thing as buying too many books- I actually have friends and family that frown when I buy more books. They point to the big pile of unread books. It’s hilarious. 🙂
Aw thank you so much, I’m glad you could relate! It happens to me as well, but…we always need more books, don’t we? 😛 Thank you so much! 🙂
Oh I can’t believe Camp NaNo is over already! It honestly doesn’t seem that long ago that you were talking about starting editing your novel. I’m glad you made your 20000 word goal and really glad your still itching to write as well!
I have the same problems with buying books too. I feel one day the mountains of books I own are going to come crashing down and crush me under their weight! But still I keep buying more and more. I try and stick to a budget, I actually created a budget for each month, and I was determined to stick to it this year but so far every single month I have epically failed! I’m definitely gonna have to put myself on a book buying ban to compensate for all the money I spent this month!
I hope you have fun when your family come down to visit you tomorrow as well!
It went by SO fast, probably the reason why I didn’t have time to focus on it really. I can’t wait to get back into that story, but hopefully I will soon 🙂
OH yes, well I do try to stick to a budget as well, but I failed this month, I found cheap deals, but well, when you add all of these deals up, it’s not so cheap anymore, ahah. I really want to try though, because some days, it’s getting out of hand!
Thank you so, so much Beth, I can’t wait 😀
I know what you mean about it going so fast! I feel that way about this whole year so far. I can’t believe it’s already May!
I never seem to look for deals or anything, it’s more a case of find the book I wanna buy and then buy it 😀 unfortunately this means by the end of the month I’ve way overspent and yeah, this is why I’m putting myself on a book buying ban. I can’t keep doing this and have a healthy balance in my bank account :/
I can’t believe it either, but I’m excited for the summer to come 🙂
Oh well don’t worry, I’m sure one day we’ll both be able to manage a book budget. WE CAN DO THIS! 🙂
God yes, it’s already getting warmer where I am and I am just so excited when it gets even hotter. I love Summer! 😀
Maybe it should be our aim for the next few months or so, to actually try and stick to our budget and not go over each month! It’ll be a challenge but I think we can do this!
I love it so much as well, I’m sick of huge coats, scarves and everything, ahah.
It really should be, well, I know I’m going to try and keep up my budget, because well, right now, I need to ahah. we can do this! 😀
I live for the day when I can leave my house without my coat!
Well have to create a support group. The ‘we’re trying to stick to our budget this month but we really wanna overspent’ group! 😀
Ahahah oh yes that’s a wonderful idea 😛
While I [think] I’d appreciate the guidelines (? I’m not sure that’s the right word) of Nano, I think I’d just curl up into the foetal position every night I failed to reach a preset goal LOL.
Hahaha, well…welcome to my life while NaNo is on. Half the time I’m writing like crazy, and half the time I am lying on the floor crying haha.
WHOOO, the books arrived! *throws a dancing party* GOSH, great job with Camp NaNoWriMo! 20,000 words? THAT’S MORE THAN I CAN EVER IMAGINE. Killing off characters, I CAN JUST IMAGINE THE PAIN OF READING THAT. I hope you have the time to get to it 🙂 AHA sometimes BUSINESS JUST SUCKS.
Aha, I cannot control myself around books. LUCKILY I am lucky enough to borrow lots from the library (OPEN A BOOKSTORE, THAT WOULD BE SO COOL) so when I do go I just carry along the whole library (I don’t know what I’m doing, I cannot possibly finish them all though my head thinks I can) and when I’m not at the library. I BUY. AND I BUY LOTS. I have the same problem, I’ll say I’m only buying one AND THEN WHERE DID MY MONEY GO? I can’t stick to a budget though I TRY VERY HARD to contain myself.
OH yes, sometimes it just sucks, but I really hope I can get to it soon, I can’t wait to make this story a whole lot more CRAZY, ahah. I’m going to need your feedback especially, since you’re THE BEST in the crazy-awesome department 😛
Oh that’s so awesome that you can take a lot of books from a library, I wish I could do the samem. But buying books is such a pleasure as well, even if, well, it makes me want to cry when I check my bank account afterwards, haha 😛
OH THE FLATTERY. AHA, thank you 🙂 Your story seems completely TERRIFYING, I MEAN LOOK AT YOUR GLEE AT KILLING THEM ALL, but I have faith it will leave me gobsmacked (which doesn’t happen often) and bowing at your feet (and kissing those pretty toes).
It is great 🙂 Aha buying books gives me GLEE but yes, money suffers and it cries BUT WHO CAN RESIST. Those precious books ARE MINE.
Hahaha oh no, it’s not terrifying, but I do want to make a gripping story, I need to work on that 🙂 OH ME TOO, I feel so possessive of my books afterwards that’s crazy, haha 😛
WHOOO, I’m sure it will be AMAZING. It will leave me at the edge of my seat, my head sucked into the book 🙂
Yup- you can totally cull your characters in the editing process. Usually though I’m a bit too trigger happy in the first draft- so I think once I had to bring a character back that I actually needed later- that’s the trouble with getting too george r r martin-y :p And there is nothing better than buying books!!
Well, I will follow your advice when I get back to writing then 😛 BUYING BOOKS makes me too happy 😀
Whatever feels right for you 🙂 It really does!
I have bought a lot of books last year that I haven’t read yet. And my best-friend keeps giving me book s as gifts. I have been buying a book series that I have been reading on. And I have been getting ebooks and audiobook from my library through a website called Overdrive.
Ahah, oh well…we can never have too many books now, can we? 😛
I always want to buy books but can never afford them 🙁 I need the writing monster to find me! I haven’t written anything outside of assigned writing in forever!
OHh, well who knows, maybe you’ll find yourself inspired soon, or find an idea for a story you’ll want to hold on to, one of these days 😀 Thank you so much! <3
Yeah, I hope I can get a good idea. I started a story for NaNoWRiMo last year but then deleted it. Since then, all my ideas have been too related to a book I’ve read.
Oh no, why 🙁 Well don’t worry, I am sure you’ll find some inspiration once again 🙂
I hope so too!!
I live in Germany, so I am totally with you on the whole, English sections in bookshops and libraries!!! It’s just awful! Although, the bookshop near me mostly stocks young adult in the English section, so I am in luck!! But I mostly use Amazon 🙂 I have way too many books on my kindle just waiting for me to gobble them up – so what do I do? I bought two new ones yesterday and two new ones this morning … Because I don’t have enough to read!! 😛
Oh yay, I’m so glad to find someone who understand this! You’re lucky though, and if I can find some Young Adult books as well, it’s just not…well, it’s not that great, ahah, sadly. Hahaha, well…I do the same, it’s awful but I CAN’T STOP haha 😛
The one near me stocks mostly new releases 🙂 I found a jackpot!! ??
OH WOW, yes you really did!
I love this! I do the same. Buy more and more books when I know I don’t have the time to read them all… It’s wonderful, really.
And I’m happy that you’re freaking out about things too… (sorry.) I’m taking a break now that NaNo is over and I’ll start editing in another week, I think. Hopefully it’ll work out… CONGRATS ON 20K, Marie! <3
Raven Boys buddies? I need to read that one soooon.
Thank you so much Annika! Buying books just feels SO good, I love to do this ahah. Oh, good luck for editing,I completely SUCK at it…I need to get back to it. Someday. Soometimes. I will, ahah.
Ohh that would be great! I’m going to read that one soon probably as well, we have to let each other know!
