Hello everyone! Happy March! It’s spring month over here and I couldn’t be happier! Bye bye winter and cold dark days, hello sunshine and flowers blooming!
I’m back on the blog today to talk about YA books I would LOVE to see turned into TV shows! I’m pretty much always pro books when they are made into movies or TV shows and hell, I’m always both excited and scared shitless when they announce some book coming to the big or small screen (aren’t you?) but here on the blog I can dream freely! Let’s dive in, shall we?

10 YA books that would be hits on Netflix

Excuse Me While I Ugly Cry, Joya Goffney
This book tells the story of Quinn, a list-maker, suddenly blackmailed into doing a list of all of her worst fears. I think it would make a great TV show, with vibes of Never Have I Ever! It would be all about getting outside of your comfort zone. I imagine it would be a fun and endearing show with characters you’ll quickly grow fond!

They Wish They Were Us, Jessica Goodman
The blurb? A murder mystery set against the backdrop of an exclusive prep school in Long Island. Are you hooked yet? Because I sure am! With Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars vibes, it would make such an addictive TV show that you’ll binge it in one weekend, always on the edge of your seat. And the good news is… this one’s actually been optioned so it might become a TV show soon!!

Fresh, Margot Wood
This book is about the first year of college. It tackles relationships, sexuality and so many more important topics with honesty and a bit of fun, too, just like Sex Education. It would be a show that opens your eyes and warms your heart at the same time, with characters you’ll definitely root for!

The Falling Girls, Hayley Krischer
This novel scrutinizes the powerful, all-consuming, ever-evolving relationship between teenage girls. The TV show would be dark and captivating. It would be full of tension, in a Tiny Pretty Things way. You wouldn’t be able to look away and it’ll stay with you a long time after the end credits.

Ace of Spades, Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé
This is a phenomenal and terrifying story about elitism, secrets and racism. With a mix of a Pretty Little Liars and a Gossip Girl atmosphere, it would make a perfect TV show! We follow a talented musician, Devon and a head-girl Chiamaka as an anonymous texter brings their dark secrets to light…

Not Here To Be Liked, Michelle Quach
One of my favorite feminist YA contemporary to date! I totally see it making a hit on the small screen! Hard-hitting, nuanced and fun, it would be a TV show that inspire and empower with a Moxie ambience. Totally the kind of show you would enjoy on a Saturday night with pop corn, pizza and all of your girlfriends!

These Vengefuls Hearts, Katherine Laurin
Anyone can ask the Red Court for a favor…but every request comes at a cost. Sounds promising right? This is a story full of suspense featuring a secret society. With a bit of Mean Girls vibes, it would be a show full of twists, a show that’ll make you gasp out loud, a show that’ll keep you entertained until the very last minute.

Like a Love Song, Gabriela Martins
This romance follows a Latina teen pop star whose image takes a dive after a messy public breakup, until she’s set up with a swoon-worthy fake boyfriend. It basically screams : “classic summer YA contemporary romcom“! And it’s steeped in celebrity gossip culture! OK…I need this one like yesterday!

Admission, Julie Buxbaum
Loved this one, so addictive! A thought-provoking story about privilege, complicity, and accepting responsibility, it’s the fictionalized version of the college admissions bribery scandal of 2019. It would make such a great TV show, in a kind of The Bling Ring vein, one I would binge for sure!

The Stars We Steal, Alexa Donne
A fantasy TV show, hell yes! This one is a retelling of Persuasion (Jane Austen) set in space with a dash of The Bachelor. I would love to see it coming to life with all the amazing world building, the romance, the pining and all the feelings! It would be my little guilty pleasure for sure, the kind you watch when you’re feeling down!

I talked about this in my book to screen adaptations post for 2021 (so, last year), but I’ll just copy what the internet says: “The Players Table is an upcoming American television series based on Jessica Goodman’s novel They Wish They Were Us. It will star Sydney Sweeney and Halsey who will also produce the series. The series is currently in development.” Sydney and Halsey have such great chemistry, so I was super excited for it.
Oh my god…SO SO excited about this!! 🤗

I´ve only read Ace of Spades, but I would definitely watch that!
