Your Life Has Been Delayed was a fun and cute contemporary YA book with a bit of sci-fi twists. The story easily kept me riveted until the very last page! Read my review below to find out why!

Past and present, friends and crushes collide in a YA debut about a girl who takes off on a flight and lands 25 years later.
Jenny Waters boards her flight in 1995, but when she lands, she and the other passengers are told they disappeared . . . 25 years ago. Everyone thought they were dead.
Now contending with her family and friends fast-forwarding decades, Jenny must quickly adjust to smartphones and social media while being the biggest story to hit the internet. She feels betrayed by her once-best friend and fights her attraction to a cute boy with an uncomfortable connection to her past. Meanwhile, there’s a growing group of conspiracy theorists determined to prove the whole situation is a hoax. Will Jenny figure out how to move forward, or will she always be stuck in the past?

I ENJOYED…
☂️
- This story is about how Jenny has to learn to adjust to the 21st century, and the family and friends whose lives moved on without her. Even if I never time traveled myself (have you??!), I found out that I could easily relate to all the issues that were depicted like the realization that your parents are aging or that your childhood friends are all married and with children, feeling like the world has changed in ways you can’t keep up with…
- The main character! She’s driven, knows what she wants, and makes plans to get it. She loves to write and is really eager to build her future. I found her really inspiring!
- The social media focus! I loved seeing Jenny discover how the 21st century works, especially regarding new technologies. How the paper is now online. How everything can be found online. How social media is everything and everywhere. It really made me think about how everything is documented now. There’s the good parts of course, you have easily access to news but there is also the down side like fake news and the lack of privacy.
- The sweet romance took a huge part in this story. If it felt a bit rushed, I still really shipped them!
- The
family vibes! I absolutely loved the relationship between Jenny and her brother. He’s now older than her and the whole dynamic changed but I loved seeing them bond and finding their new places.

I HAD A HARD TIME WITH…
☂️
- What hooked me the most when reading the blurb was the sci-fi vibes and unfortunately it was a bit of a let down. The focus wasn’t at all on the plane that went missing and why and how (and I really wish I knew more about that at the end) but more on the repercussions of time traveling, finding your place in this new century and mend your relationships. Ultimately, I was disappointed by the resolution of the whole plane time-travel mystery…
- The way Jenny’s family and friends kept important information from her – out of a sense of protection and love, of course – was really annoying. It’s hard enough that she missed 25 years, I felt like she needed to learn important stuff from her loved ones and deserved time to adjust and deal with her emotions. It was a bit frustrating when it kept happening over and over again.
