6 Authors I Wish I Could Collaborate With

There are a lot of authors I admire and wish I could collaborate with. Whether it’s on a novel or just, you know, to get some insight on their incredible craft and way to weave words, create worlds and characters I can get lost in and root for…There’s SO much to learn from a whole lot of authors out there.

I don’t talk about it a whole lot, but I’m kind of a writer. I’ve been writing for as long as I remember, on and off. I probably don’t talk about it enough or flaunt it on social media because I’m a little too insecure for it all, but well. I always want to know more, to learn more and to improve and maybe, one day, to be a writer someone admires, as well.

That’s what this list is about, deep down. Authors whose work I deeply admire. They wrote some of my favorite books and I love so many aspects of their stories and writing, it’d be a dream to write with them, learn from them and more. So, let’s dream together, shall we.

Authors I’d love to collaborate with

Austin Siegemund-Broka & Emily Wibberley

It’s a secret to no one reading this blog: I love Austin & Emily’s contemporary young adult books (and damn, am I excited to read their adult books, as well!). I deeply admire the fact that they’re able to co-write so seamlessly and the end result always ends up on my ultimate favorites list.

I think I could benefit from their talent to write amazing characters, genuine romantic relationships and bold characters that I can’t quite forget. Another thing I’d adore is to actually collaborate with them as a foursome, adding my sister to the lot, whom I’ve always wanted to write stories with! Oh we’d definitely write an awesome YA contemporary with siblings relationships and romance and characters taking absolutely no shit and standing up for themselves because they deserve to.

Rachel Lynn Solomon

I remember when I read Our Year of Maybe. I was emotionally wrecked afterwards, staring out the window of the train back from work and wondering WHAT. DID. I. JUST. READ. My love story with Rachel’s work started there and it hasn’t stopped since then.

I fell for the complex friends to lovers relationship in Our Year of Maybe. I cried over the perfectly crafted romances in both Today, Tonight, Tomorrow and We Can’t Keep Meeting Like This. I know I need to be emotionally ready for You’ll Miss Me When I’m Gone, but I can’t wait. Honestly, collaborating with Rachel Lynn Solomon would be an absolute dream. We’d write a contemporary that wrecks your emotions but also gives you all the feels.

Traci Chee

I have yet to wander into the fantasy genre with my own writing but oh god, if and when I ever do, I want to learn from Traci Chee first and foremost. Her series, The Reader, is one of my favorites of all times and I’m in awe of the world she manages to create in this stunning series. Not only is the world so immersive and incredibly-well crafted I had to pick my jaw off the floor, but the characters she creates… oh, damn. I feel like crying just thinking about them. Really.

Since we’re dreaming in this post, I’m collaborating with Traci Chee on a young adult fantasy I’ve never dared writing because world-building isn’t my strong suit. Oh, also it’d be raw and emotional and terrible and will wreck all of your feelings like The Storyteller did.

Laura Silverman

Laura Silverman is one of my favorite authors of all times. I fell for her first book, Girl out of Water, years ago and haven’t stopped loving everything she wrote since then. You Asked for Perfect just really got me and made me cry, Recommended For You made me SO happy.

There’s something about the characters in the book that just rings true, something about the way they fall and stand up again and struggle and grow that makes me happy. I want to learn how to craft characters like that: three dimensional, real characters with complex relationships. Laura writes everything I love in contemporaries and I just have SO much to learn from her books.

Joan He

I read Joan He’s books for the first time in 2021, starting with The Ones We’re Meant To Find, then Descendant of the Crane. I was blown away. Stunned by the worlds the author created, fingers cramping from fists clenched because tension and emotion and what the heck is happening here.

I want to write a book that messes up with everyone’s minds, someday. I want to write something with complex politics and schemes that makes you gasp out loud. I know Joan He has the talent to do that and collaborating on a story like that would be mindblowing.
