Hey guys! How are you? It’s finally summer! Ugh, how I wish we could travel and escape far away… Anyway, I’m back on the blog today with an idea from my lovely sister. She had this one for a very very very long time but she never managed to do it because you see, it’s a post that took hours and hours to do! But hell, I was inspired, I was even on a roll, so here it goes!
I don’t know about you but sometimes when you’re listening to a song, you’re actually seeing the scene in your mind. The lyrics are so powerful that it takes you somewhere else entirely! Well…what if those song lyrics were turned into a movie? Better yet, what if those song lyrics were turned into a book??!
FYI: If I read a lot of contemporary books filled with love and happy times, I noticed that, when it comes to songs, it’s quite the opposite I’m more into sad and dramatic stuff. What is up with that?!

? Camila Cabello – Used to This
Oh, I’ve known you forever
Now I know you better
Let’s just get carried away
And it bears repeating
How hard my heart’s beating
When you tell me I should stay
I absolutely love this song, it’s so sweet! It would be a story about first love, about friends becoming more. It would be a book about knowing someone your whole life and suddenly seeing them totally differently. About falling in love slowly, and then all at once.

? Taylor Swift – Cruel Summer
I’m drunk in the back of the car
And I cried like a baby coming home from the bar
Said, “I’m fine,” but it wasn’t true
I don’t wanna keep secrets just to keep you
And I snuck in through the garden gate
Every night that summer just to seal my fate
And I scream, “For whatever it’s worth
I love you, ain’t that the worst thing you ever heard?”
He looks up, grinning like a devil
I’m a huge fan of Taylor Swift! I absolutely adore all of her lyrics! This song would be turned into a book about summer adventures and mistakes. About a girl getting tangled up in some bad boy drama.

? Jonas Brothers – Before The Storm
Standing out in the rain
Need to know if it’s over
‘Cause I will leave you alone
I’m flooded with all this pain
Knowing that I’ll never hold her
Like I did before the storm
My babies! I love them! This song is so old but so good. It would be a book about first love but also first heartbreak. About letting go even if you don’t want to. It would be a sad and bittersweet story.

? Miley Cyrus – Robot
It’s been like this from the start
One piece after another to make my heart
You mistake the game for being smart
Stand here, sell this, and hit your mark
But the sound of the steel
And the crush, and the grind
It all screams, “Who am I to decide my life?”
But in time it all dies
There’s nothing left inside
Just rusted metal that was never even mine
Staying in Disney pop stars, don’t judge… This song is full of anger and I like it, OK. It would be turned into a book about celebrity and all the bad that comes with it. It would focus on how you can never be truly yourself when you’re always in the spotlight.

? The Veronicas – Revenge Is Sweeter Than You Ever Were
I saw it in the news
You told me they were wrong
And I stood up for you
‘Cause I believed you were the one
You had all the chances in the world
To let me know the truth
What the hell’s wrong with you?
The title alone could make a great book! It would be a story about a messy breakup. It would be full of revenge plots, drama and cheating dumbasses.

? Charlie Puth – We Don’t Talk Anymore
Don’t wanna know
What kind of dress you’re wearing tonight
If he’s holding onto you so tight
The way I did before
I overdosed
Should’ve known your love was a game
Now I can’t get you out of my brain
Oh, it’s such a shame
It could be a book about two people going their separate ways, people used to spend all their time together and suddenly not talking, always wondering what the other is doing, if they’re even thinking about them. We could have two POVs and it would be awesome!

? Imagine Dragon – Radioactive
I’m waking up to ash and dust
I wipe my brow and I sweat my rust
I’m breathing in the chemicals
I’m breaking in, shaping up, then checking out on the prison bus
This is it, the apocalypse
In another genre, this song would be absolutely perfect for a dystopia and a fantasy story! It would be about the end of the world, about a revolution during a whole new era and badasses characters!

? Marina Kaye – Homeless
In this house where I grew up
With cozy chairs and broken cups
Memories piled up to the ceiling
Can they tell what I am feelingI know this house outside and in
But three birds fly upon my skin
Lay my head down in the darkness
Like so many nights before this
This song is gorgeous and so powerful. It would totally be a story about mental health and depression. About trying to find yourself and your home.

? Maroon 5 – Daylight
Here I am waiting, I’ll have to leave soon
Why am I holding on?
We knew this day would come, we knew it all along
How did it come so fast?
This is our last night but it’s late
And I’m trying not to sleep
‘Cause I know, when I wake
I will have to slip away
It would be a book about a long distance relationship, the difficulty to always have to leave the other one behind and the importance to always to enjoy to present moment.

? Zayn – Entertainer
Guess you didn’t know that
You were my favorite entertainer
I watch you, I laugh with and fuck with you
Don’t you take me for a fool
In this game, I own the rules
You were my favorite entertainer
I watch you, I laugh and we fake it too
Don’t you take me for a fool
I’ma show you a thing or two
Those lyrics are pretty harsh but they would make a great contemporary about a toxic relationship. It would be about deceiving, playing games and getting burned.

What did you think of my songs? Do you agree they would make awesome books?
Do you have any song lyrics you’d love to see becoming a story? What kind of music do you listen to?

Fantastic idea and post!
Aww, thank you so so much!! ?
The Veronicas!! I never see people talking about them, but 4Ever, When It All Falls Apart, and Untouched used to be my jams ??! This is my first time hearing Revenge Is Sweeter Than You Ever, so THANK YOU because I know what I’m going to be listening to the rest of summer ?.
This is such a unique idea for a post, Nyx ?! All of the stories you came up with fit the lyrics so well and sound like something I’d actually read ?.
Aaaaah a fellow fan!! I’m so happy!! ?? You’re right, there are so few people out there talking about The Veronicas!
You’re SO welcome, I absolutely love that song ?
Aww thank you!! I’m so happy you enjoyed it ??
Great idea for a post! I love Cruel Summer, too bad we never got a video for that song. I’d love a book based on that song 😀
Thank you! ? Yeees, I’m so sad we didn’t get a video for that song, it would have been epic!
Well…they better do a book then ?
This is such an awesome idea! ?
A lot of your song choices were so nostalgic!!
Thank you so so much! ?
Yeeees totally nostalgic ?
This is such a creative idea 🙂 I love Cruel Summer and would 10/10 read a book with that concept
Thank you! ?
Yeeeees, it would be SO awesome ?
This is so creative!! Absolutely loved this post. ?
Aww thank you, that makes me so happy! ??
This is such a great post idea! I used to write short fiction based off of song lyrics in my teens and this made me really miss that. ♥
Thank you! ?
Aww that’s so awesome!! Songs can be so inspiring ??
Aaah, I remember Marie mentioning this on my “Songs I Wish Were Books” post. I adore that you posted part of the actual lyrics and then those aesthetics – so pretty!! If I could choose one of those as a story, I’d probably go with Entertainer. I used to listen to that one on repeat haha
Thank you Kat! ?
Yaaaay, I think it would make a great story!!
That’s a fantastic idea! I would want to read a book inspired by Radioactive, Daylight or We Don’t Talk Anymore! I am currently trying to listen to musics that I don’t usually listen to so any recommendation is welcome!
Thank you so much! ? Yaaay! ??
That’s awesome, there are so many great songs out there, just waiting to be listened to ?
I love Taylor Swift’s songs – one I’d love to see as a novel is All Too Well, or maybe Bad Blood, or ooh, I Did Something Bad.. okay, so basically all her songs could inspire some incredible novels. Either way, Cruel Summer is a great choice, it’d make an incredible novel. (Imagine a novel based on that + Getaway Car. We’re constantly robbed, at least one of these two deserved a music video.) I adore Radioactive – and Imagine Dragons in general – and I’d love to read a book based on that song! This is one of the best posts ever, and I love how you added pictures to it too. Wonderful job, Marie. ??
Oh yeeees, those songs would absolutely be perfect in books! And I agree, basically any Taylor Swift will do ??
Oh my god yeees! That would be epic (and I’m totally devastated we didn’t get any music videos for those ones ?).
Aww thank you, I’m so happy you enjoyed it! ?
Okay… I have only one word for this. Wow!!
Awww ????
This is such a great concept! I love all the songs you chose, and their little aesthetics were so cute and fitting. Honestly, any Taylor Swift song would do but All Too Well is a masterpiece meant to become a movie/book and I’ll never get tired of saying this.
Do you plan on making this a recurring series in your blog? Because I would love that!
Thank you, I’m so happy you liked it! ?
YEEEES, I totally agree with you!!
I don’t know yet but if you guys liked it, I’ll definitely consider it ?
This is such a great idea! I’m not familiar with most of these songs, but I can imagine that a dystopian book inspired by Radioactive would be incredible 😀
Thank you! ?
Yeeees, it would be SO good!!
Omg, I especially love the aesthetics that you added with your song lyrics, Nyx! They all sound wonderful haha. One song I would add is Pompeii by Bastille (like – have you seen that music video?? Mysteries, mysteries) and Champion by Fall Out Boy (gladiator fantasy of the underdogs = for the win!) You seem like the expert in the contemporary stories though, and I’ll gladly support any of these becoming books/movies!
Aww, thank you!! I’m so happy you enjoyed it! ? Oh yeeees, those are great ones!! And they would definitely make great books ?
Aww thanks! ☺️?
What a fun post idea! I love thinking of songs that fit the books I read, and I often get inspired for my own writing by songs, so this is great. 🙂

This is such an amazing post and idea. I would love to see Cruel summer to be written as a book, I love that song
Thank you so much! ?
Yeees, same here! I can’t stop listening to it and these lyrics, damn so inspiring for a book! ?
I definitely see Radioactive and Cruel Summer turning into books ! This is an amazing idea!
Yaaaay! ?
Thank you, I’m so glad you liked it ??
I love this idea so much! These would make for some really great books!
Aww thank you, I’m so glad! ?
Yeeees ??
This was so fun to read! <3
Aww that makes me so happy, thank you!! ??
This happens to me all the time!! It’s either that I want to write an entire book based on a single line from a song, or I want to write a book that captures the same vibe as the song.
Cruel Summer already feels like a story, so I think it would translate wonderfully into a book 😀
Also, We Don’t Talk Anymore sounds like a fantastic book title (reminds me of We Used to be Friends), and I think your idea would work so well! And YEP, every time I listen to Radioactive, I feel like I’m walking through a postapocalyptic landscape ?
This is such a creative post, I loved reading it!! <3
YEEEES, same here!!
Totally, it would be such a great read ?
Oh yeees, it does sound similar!
Haha, glad to see I’m not the only one ?
Thank you so so much!! ??
I love this post! Such a creative idea! I also agree that the lyrics in Cruel Summer would make a great summer read.
Thank you, I’m so happy you enjoyed it ?
Totally!! ??
This was amazing!! I’m also a huge fan of Taylor Swift, and I *have* imagined a complete scene for Cruel Summer as well! Actually, I think that I can’t listen to music without imagining some movie or scene in the background 😛 But I’d love if these were turned into movies or books! <3
Thank you!! ?
Yaaay, I love her and all of her songs so much ??
Haha, same here!!
ok but this is one of the COOLEST ideas ever. i enjoyed reading it so much. your sister hit jackpot <3
i wanna read ALL of these books because oh those lyrics and aesthetics,,,,,,, esp cruel summer and homeless
Aww you’re sweet, thank you so so much!! ?
Yaaaay ??
Loved this post! SO creative.
Thank you so so much!! ?
OMG, I always thought Radioactive would make an awesome book. Every time I hear that song, I think “I’d read that dystopia.”
YEEEES, totally! ?
This is such a brilliant post! I’m the same when it comes to listening to music, for some reason there’s always scenes playing in my head for certain lyrics. And I’m definitely one of those people who pay great attention to the lyrics and not just a song’s tune. I absolutely agree that those songs would make great books full of feels and tears. At the top of my head, there’s one song that I think would make a great contemporary book: Supercut by Lorde would be about someone who recently gone through a breakup, reminiscing about their previous relationship to find out where they’ve gone wrong, only to realize that all this time they put a strain on their relationship because they’ve been focused on what should be than what really is. Basically, they’ve just been revolving around the good parts of their relationship. Idk, my explanation sounds weird but the song is really good lmao. Anyway, great post! I super enjoyed reading and appreciate how much time and effort you’ve put into this especially with the moodboards ?
Aww, thank you so so much!! I’m so happy you enjoyed it! ☺️
Yeeees, lyrics are just as important! ?
It doesn’t sound weird at all, I love it!! I’m going to listen to that song RIGHT NOW ??
Thank you again for your sweet words ?
I love that you always come up with these unique ideas. And your descriptions of each book seem to fit the lyrics perfectly! I would definitely read that dystopian one.
Aww you’re so sweet, thank you! ?
Right?! It would make such a great story!! ?
I would really love the whole Taylor Swift folklore album to be a series of books because that album! ut love this post, I’ve seen plenty of posts reccing books based on songs but it’s not often you find someone taking the time to choose songs you wish were a book instead and some good choices on here. love the images to go along with them. You’re really getting the mood there. Fingers crossed someone gets some inspiration from this and goes ahead and writes those books for you.
Oh yeeees!! That would be awesome ??
Aww, thank you so so much! ?
Fingers crossed indeed ?
Thanks for stopping by ??
