Hello everyone! Happy February! How are you? Did you spend a nice January? Over here, it was cold, cold and cold. We even had snow! I think it’s been years since we’ve got snow (I’m talking into town, in the moutains we pretty much always have snow in winter). It was hard getting back into work after two weeks off and the weather really isn’t helping to get out of bed!
So… it’s February and Valentine’s day is coming up. Not that I’m celebrating or anything but it got me inspired for today’s post. I’m going to talk about love, yes love!
I’ve been reading YA books for years now and I noticed lately that very few YA books don’t revolve around romance. It could be the main theme, it could be a subplot, it could be in a contemporary or even in a fantasy but more often that not it’s there!
You may not have the same opinion as me but I just ask myself stuff sometimes and I like to share. Today, my question is: does YA fiction – especially the ones marketed towards teen girls – always have to have some sort of romantic relationship in it?
🌪 Obsessed about love?!
I’m not anti-romance at all. In fact, I LOVE reading love stories. To be perfecly honest, I crave romantic drama, the more dramatic the better. But I feel like society has a very unhealthy obsession with romance and it really shows in books (movies, tv shows, plays… in a lot of things actually).
I totally get that the publishing industry contributes to driving what is popular by providing and marketing what they think girls will like. Love sells, I get that. But I think there absolutely needs to be more balance and more diversity.

🌪 Romance? Yes, but not always, not everywhere and not botched please!
First, it seems that most of the popular YA books are cashing on bad romance tropes. None of the relationships develop naturally.
For example, I hate the “love at first sight I’m going to lose my whole personality because I’m in a relationship” kind of books. What kind of messages are you sending to young girls??! It encourages them to have an unrealistic expectation of what love is supposed to be like. I worry that girls will discount a healthy relationship just because they don’t feel immediate “sparks” or something. Authors need to be more mindful about the kinds of message they may inadvertently perpetuate upon teens.
Relationships have to feel real, even in books.
Also, I wish there were more appreciation for the awkwardness and the flaws. Characters are too often “picture perfect”, blond, athletic and who knows what else but that’s not real life. And just because you’re not like those characters doesn’t mean you don’t deserve love!

Second, what about people on the aromantic spectrum? Or just people for who romance is not on the agenda (for several different reasons)?! It’s easy to understand why it would be frustrating to constantly read books implying that life is pathetic without romance!
Wouldn’t it be nice to read a YA book where the female protagonist and the male protagonist are just friends? In my opinion, romantic relationships are too often prioritized over friendships. I get that love stories are thrilling, they almost always invoke some big emotions that give life its meaning. But what about family, or ambition? Those things give life its meaning too!

Last but not least. Romance is in every genre. Of course it’s in romance novels, it’s written clearly in the plot. I got no problem with that but we see a bit of romance emerge in genres like fantasy, dystopia, thriller…
If it’s well done, I’m fine with a little romance but when I’m reading about a girl superhero who needs to save the world of the dark side I don’t want her to lose sight of her battle because of a boy! I don’t want her to suddenly gain the confidence she lost because she met a boy who believed in her! It completely overshadows the main plot of the book and I absolutely did not sign up for this. And girls can save themselves by the way!!

🌪 We still need to talk about love in litterature, it’s important and it feels good!
That being said, I don’t think romance should be disregared altogether in YA litterature. Teenagers think about each other a lot, whether they have other interests or not, so it’s only natural it should be a part of what they read.
Love is part of life.
It’s good for them to see healthy relationships in books, especially the ones based on friendship to begin with rather than instant-attraction. Books with romance can also generate important discussions such as boundaries, being safe, breakups… Plus, there is more and more diverse romance representation (POC, queer, disabled characters and more…) and this is so important, too.
Also, there is nothing wrong to have times when you want to read about a soulmates or a fairy-tale like relationship. I’m the first one interested! It’s great for the mood, it’s a perfect way to escape and it just feels so damn good!

I’ve actually thought about this a lot, because growing up, I never had a big love story. I had like a million crushes that all felt important to me at the time, but weren’t that deep and I never see that reflected in YA fiction. Everything, or at least the majority, I read is about people finding THE ONE at high school and you cannot even imagine that they’ll break up in a couple years, which would be realistic though, because how many high school relationships last forever? I don’t know if they think it’s not a satisfying story if the lead doesn’t get with the person they are “meant to be with”, but I felt it very disheartening when it never happened for me. I wanted that, I still want someone and I am in my late 20s now and it’s just not been a thing haha I want to read about that someday!
YES, YES, YES! I totally agree with you!
It’s always about finding the one but seriously… people who date in high school very rarely end up together, people change!
And it’s so annoying because high school is really more about crushes than anything else and I don’t see that in books at all!
Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing you thoughts Kat! 😘😘
That is an interesting post. And you’re on to something here. Recently I read a few YA books in which the main characters behaved more maturely than adults. That is sort of off putting. Speaking of YA Romance, I read You have a match By Emma Lord recently and one of the things I loved is the characters are flawed acted mostly like young adults. It is messy, awkward and does not make much sense later. We need more books like that. 😇
Thank you! ☺️
YEEES! I totally agree with you! We need messy and awkward!
Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts 😘😘
I agree! Romance in YA is one of my biggest pet peeves, but I’m fine with it if I purposely picked up a romance book. I get annoyed when I wanted to read a dystopia/mystery/historical fiction and romance takes over the entire plot and becomes the MC’s sole motivation when she has much more pressing things to worry about
YEEES! I totally agree with you, it’s just so annoying!
Thank you so much for stopping by 😘😘
There definitely needs to be a better mix of romance and no romance. I was a teen who didn’t date/fall in love/etc. I already felt like an outcast since everyone got those experiences around me. I didn’t need books to rub salt in the wound and make me feel like more of a “loser”.
YEEES! Totally agree with you!!
Thank you so much for stopping by 😘😘
I love this post and I definitely think there’s an over reliance on love in YA. I hate it when an MC “falls in love” and priorities their own identity as an extension of their love interests and disregarding the other relationships that play a part in their growth. Love does not solve everything and I don’t think that’s reflected enough.
I’m a sucker for a good romance, but I don’t want a romance that takes away from individual growth. Plus, there’s always this image of finding your true love in high school and, while that may be the case for some, more often than not that’s never the reality and I think it needs to be stressed that you don’t need to find the one when you’re still trying to find yourself.
Thank you!! ☺️
YEEES! I totally agree with you! 😊
“you don’t need to find the one when you’re still trying to find yourself.” : oh my god yes! It’s SO rare to find “the one” is high school, it’s more about crushes than anything else!
Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts! Happy reading 😘😘
Yes, totally agree that YA novels have too much romance! I also think the relationships are often way too serious for the ages of the characters.
YEEES! I totally agree with you! At that age, it’s supposed to be messy and awkward!
Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts 😘😘
I think I like it both ways. I either want romance heavy or none! So basically I want it all!!!
Haha, I can totally relate to that!! 🙈🙈
Thank you so much for stopping by 😘
❤❤
❤️✨
In terms of romance in YA there are times where I think it’s too much, and I don’t read the romance genre. I do read contemporaries and have to say that I wish there were more platonic relationships in those.
Yes exactly! It’s annoying when that happens!
Totally, we absolutely need more of those 😊
Thank you so much for stopping by, happy reading! 😘😘
You’re welcome! I love when I see more platonic relationships, it’s refreshing.
YEEES, totally! 😊
I actually enjoy having a bit of romance in various genres but it must be well written!
But I also agree that it creates unrealistic expectations about other people and what love is in real life.
Great post Nyx ❤
Yes, I totally agree with you!
Yeah, it’s a shame really 😕
Thank you so so much, happy reading! 😘😘
YES!!! I loved this post because I agree! Books, especially in YA, have so much focus on the characters getting together romantically that they never take the time to just be friends. Friendships are so important and it feels like they get overlooked all the time! I love when books focus on friendships! Loved reading this! 💞
Yaay, glad to see I’m not the only one feeling that way 😊
YEEEES! We absolutely need more books focusing on friendships!! 🤗🤗
Aww thank you so so much, thank you for stopping by 😘
Oh you’re definitely not alone! 😊
You’re so welcome! Great discussion! 😃
Thank you so much! ☺️☺️
I loved this post! I absolutely love romance but I do agree that we need more friendships in YA. Nothing warms my heart like a good friendship! Most of my high school life was filled with amazing friends and I would love for books to accurately portray that. You will probably not fine an amazing romance in high school and that is very okay. Normalize not finding the ONE so young!
Thank you!! 😊
Yees totally, we need more books focusing on friendships! 😁😁
YEEES!! It’s so rare to find “the one” in high school, I think this time period is way more about crushes than anything else!
Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts 😘😘
I totally agree with you! I also like romance in books, but I don’t feel like it needs to be in every single book, which seems to be the case with YA. I’d love to see more books that focus on friendships, especially when it’s obvious that the friendship is only ever going to be platonic. I think sometimes that can be even more heartwarming!
Yaaay, glad to see I’m not the only one feeling that way 😁
YEEES, I totally agree! We absolutely need more books focusing on friendships 🤗🤗
Thank you so much for stopping by, happy reading 😘
This is such an interesting discussion, and it’s one I’ve thought about a lot, too!
As an aroace-spec person, I would love to see more YA novels focus on friendship but, even though romantic love isn’t necessarily something I feel the same way the majority of people do, I still love reading about romance and I love caring about characters enough to ship them so much it makes my chest ache. I don’t want it to take over the story, though, if the blurb has made it sound like a story that focuses on something else entirely, like a heist or a murder mystery. As with all things, it’s about balance; we don’t need to take romance away from YA, we just need to be publishing and reading more YA that has little to no romance in it. I would love to see more aroace characters in YA, but because it’s a section of the LGBT+ community that hasn’t been written about much as of yet a lot of the YA stories are about the characters being aroace, and I want to see more aroace characters have adventures that don’t centre around them being aroace. I want it to be an afterthought while also being mentioned. At the moment we have opportunities to ‘read this character or that character as aro and/or ace’, but I want to see more characters say it without it being their entire storyline.
And, of course, characters don’t need to be on the aroace spectrum to still be single at the end of their story. I’d love to see more heroines, in particular, still be single when their novel comes to an end so we can stop equating a romantic relationship with happiness.
While I do love seeing healthy relationships in novels, and they’re the relationships I personally prefer to read about, I don’t mind novels including ‘unhealthy’ relationships if they’re addressed. Ultimately our novels shouldn’t really act as homework and plenty of readers love twisted, toxic romances while also knowing it’s never something they’d want for themselves, and I don’t think we should ever assume young girls can’t make that distinction either. In fact toxic relationships that are addressed can be excellent for YA because our teen years are when many of us begin to dip our toes into the world of romance, and we don’t always make good choices. As much as our novels shouldn’t be our teachers, I 100% agree that seeing a fictional character experience something and overcome it can be incredibly powerful and validating for anyone going through something similar.
Thank you!! ☺️
YEEES, I also love to read about romance, to feel so involved in a ship 😍 But like you said, if the book isn’t blurbed as a romance novel I don’t want that. I mean that’s not what I signed up for! If I pick up a fantasy novel, I want a fantasy novel!
I totally agree with you, we need more diversity and it’s absolutely need to be authentic 😊
“I’d love to see more heroines, in particular, still be single when their novel comes to an end so we can stop equating a romantic relationship with happiness.” OH MY GOD YES! 100% agree with that!!
I haven’t thought about that but yes I totally agree and to be perfectly honest I do love to read about twisted and toxic romances!
Books have so much power, it can make someone’s life less lonely! It’s good to feel seen and understood!
Thank you so so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts on the topic! Happy reading 😘😘
Oh this post is speaking to my SOUL. Honestly a good 75% of the time these days I do not care at all for the romance in YA books and think they would have been improved by taking the romance out entirely. Like you said, far too often it feels tacked on without doing the work of convincing us that the characters care for each other. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve angrily whispered at characters: “I get that you love each other, but do you even KNOW each other??” Insta-love is the bane of my existence.
I’m always dying to see books that prioritize non-romantic relationships, since those are always the ones most important in my life. I like what you said about love being an important part of life that young readers do need to learn about, especially when we expand the kind of love stories we see to more diversity. But it is frustrating when it seems like a major focus in every single book you pick up.
Aww, that warms my heart ☺️☺️
Oh my god yes!!! How many times, I’m like “How can you already be in love with him, you haven’t said two words to him yet!!” Ugh, I hate that! 😤
Totally, love is important but there are so many types of love in life : friendships, self love, family… We need more of that in books!
Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts, happy reading! 😘😘
I feel like there needs to be a little more books about other stuff, like, i’ve read some very good MG books about family and friendship and it would be awesome if YA had that too… but i have to admit i read the books for the romance, so i can’t really complain.
YEEES! We définitely need more of those! 🤗🤗
Haha, I also do love the romance 🥰
Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts 😘
Ahh Nyx I loved reading this post! I’ve been thinking about this quite a bit recently as the book I’ve been working on is not romance centred but rather the focus is on two teen girls who are rivals in every manner? Part of the romantic sub-plot I suppose (if you could even call it that) is that one of the girls has been through a breakup and coming to terms with that. But anyway the point is it made me realise that so much of YA is romance-centred to the point where there doesn’t seem to be enough literature that makes it seem like it’s okay to not be in a relationship as a teenager. And a wholehearted yes to more awkward love stories because love isn’t picture perfect especially as a teenager when so much can go wrong! Side note, one of the things I like about some YA books is when they leave quite an open-ended ending for a romance?
Aw, thank you! I’m so glad! 🥰
Oh my god, that sounds really promising!! 🤗🤗
“It seems like it’s okay to not be in a relationship as a teenager”. YEEES!
Oh yes, I do like an open-ended ending for a romance 😊
Thank you so so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts on the topic, happy reading! 😘😘
Damn right, society is too obsessed with romance. It’s every freaking where and a lot of times it’s just pushing any two people together :/ I do like romance but I’m not into books based solely on romance because a lot of times they don’t have anything else going on 🙈
Yees, totally!! 🙁
Yeah, I get that!
Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts 😊 Happy reading 😘😘
As a young teen I had no problem with romance in books but the older I got the more I felt like romance was sometimes forced into books. Or even love triangles were done purely to create some drama…which don’t get me wrong if done well I love a good love triangle but often it’s one girl deciding between two dark haired white boys where one is a bad type and the others a good type 🙄 I’m here for the trope being used for the LGBT community though since it’s the only true way to have a love triangle. (give me a triangle that is actually a triangle where each one likes a diff person and it goes round in a triangle pls)
I don’t mind romance but I wished publisher’s and authors knew they don’t have to have it in everything. A good book isn’t required to have romance because there is more to life than romance. And like you said not everyone has romance in the ‘table for them’ so to speak. Whether it’s due to them falling on the aromantic spectrum or various other reasons.
I need to read more books with less romance in or at least where romance is not the main focus. Loved this post Nyx 💜
YEES! Same here, romance is too often forced into books! 😕
Totally agree with the love triangle trope!!
Yes, same here! I need to find more books that don’t revolve around romance 😊
Thank you so so much, happy reading!! 😘😘
I’m so glad to see this post, especially around this time of year! I’ve always thought YA had a bit too much romance in it, and I hate not being able to pick up stories without it… A lot of time, the romance completely ruins the story for me too. (This happened with The Darkest Minds and The Hunger Games, and some contemporaries that escalated entirely too quickly for my liking.) There are times I don’t mind romance, but unless I’m reading for that, I hate when it becomes a huge part of the plot or character’s personality. I need more/stronger friends and family focused YA books.
YEES! I totally agree with you!! 😊
Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts, happy reading 😘😘
Yes! I’m aromantic, and while I don’t mind reading romance this was definitely something I noticed with YA growing up. After a while I briefly gave up on YA altogether as a teen because I didn’t want to read books where romance was the main plot in every single book, and that was what my library had available. I’m seeing more variance in YA, but I’d definitely love to see more platonic love in YA books (and in general!)
Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts on the topic! 😊
We definitely need to see more platonic love! Everything doesn’t have to revolve around romance!
omg, I hate the romances that someone loses their personality the moment they fall in love! Like just because you fall in love, doesn’t mean you turn into a completely different person. Like you said, I LOVE romance novels, but I hate when they don’t flow naturally, are sprung out of nowhere, and when personality changes happen to the people falling in love. Great post Nyx xxx

Thank you, I’m so happy you enjoyed it! Thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts, happy reading 😘😘
What perfect timing–I just did a post like this too!! I couldn’t agree more and am a firm believer than less is more when it comes to romance.
Awesome!! 🤗
Totally, glad to see I’m not the only one feeling that way!
Thank you so much for stopping by 😘😘
I love this discussion Nyx!! I absolutely agree with all the points you made 😁 I think one of the types of romance portrayed in the media especially that really annoys me is when the bookish or more studious girl is being made to feel like there’s something wrong with her and when the popular boy enters, the girl feels like she has to change everything about herself to gain his acceptance. And when this is celebrated, I get really irritated and I just…I don’t get it at all, you know? Forgive the rant! I think there are so many key points in this post, and I would also love to see more friendships and family dynamics explored!! And more diverse romances are a big plus!!
Thank you so so much!! ☺️☺️
OH MY GOD, YEES! 100% agree with you on that!
Yeees, glad to see I’m not the only one feeling that way. Give usmore friendship and family stories pretty please 🙏
Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts on the topic, happy reading 😘😘
I love it when a book has romance in it. I don’t like books as much if there’s no romance in it. Like, It’s ok if it has other things more important than love, crush, etc, etc, but teensy weensy of it won’t hurt, right? Like in the book ‘The Last Time We Say Goodbye’. Maybe because I’m still a teen? I get what you’re telling tho.
Your blog is really good, btw!!! Glad that I found it 🙂
Totally agree with you, I do love books with romance 🥰
Aww thank you so so much!! ☺️☺️
Talk soon and happy reading 😘
I probably wouldn’t say they have too much romance but they sure do have a lot of it. I love romance in any kind of book when it’s well written. I really don’t like forced romance or instalove It has to be realistic. But I love when I encounter a book where romance isn’t part of the main plot or at least not the core of everything. I love when a book is centred on friendships or on families. It’s one of the reasons why I love Alice Oseman’s books so much. While they do have romance, the focus on friendships is so much more prominent and I AM HERE FOR IT!!
YES, YES, YEEES! I totally agree with you!
And Alice Oseman’s books are amazing, I love them 😍😍
Thank you so so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts, happy reading 😘
I loved to read this, it was a really amazing post!! I’m also a lover of romance, but I definitely agree there should be more balance, though apparently, that’s what sells, … and that still speaks louder )):
Aww thank you so so much! 🥰
Yeah totally, it’s such a shame 😔
Thank you for stopping by, happy reading 😘😘
This is such a wonderful point that you make! Because you are so very right, society prioritizes romantic relationships above all others, and we’re deemed “incomplete” unless and until we have a partner. Which of course makes people who are alone (especially those not alone by choice) feel so very “less than”. And, it makes people who ARE alone by choice feel like there is something wrong with their choice, which is certainly not true.
So yeah, I like book romances a lot too, but I wholly agree that we need to at the very least change the narrative surrounding them. Especially like you said, when the romance becomes somehow more important that everything else that had been important to the character! Fabulous post!
Thank you! ☺️
YES, YES, YES! That’s exactly it!
Totally, we really need to change the narrative.
Thank you so so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts on the topic, happy reading 😘😘
YOU TOOK THE WORDS RIGHT OUT OF MY MOUTH (er, fingers)! Now that I’m older, I definitely have a different relationship with insta-love in fiction because that’s kinda how crushes felt when I was a teenager (all those hormones!), but while I had a steady boyfriend for 3 years in high school… it ended on graduation day lol
😂😂 Well…Im SO glad I’m not the only one feeling that way!! 👊
Yeah…I feel like all those stories aren’t just realistic…
Thank you so so much for stopping by, happy reading! 😘😘
Love your post. And I so agree with you. I am an avid romance books reader, but if I venture out of that genre, I want something that doesn’t necessarily involve a love story. I also feel like sometimes the implication is that if there’s no love story, then the story itself is not epic. Which is a total lie. I know that as readers we sometimes get so invested in the story that the “shipping” starts, but I feel like sometimes characters (just like real life people too) can have non-romantic chemistry. They can be really good friends without having the added romance between them. Great great post!
Thank you!! ☺️
YES, YES, YES! 100% agree with you! I’m glad to see I’m not the only one feeling that way 😊
Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. Happy reading! 😘😘
Nyx okay this is a very late comment but I LOVE LOVE LOVE this discussion (hah funny) because it’s been something that I’ve been thinking about lately. Mainly because I’ve been reading a lot of romance, mainly adult lately, and I haven’t found a YA romance that I’ve loved. A few here and there but it’s been a while. And lowkey the romance was a favourite part of my reading YA and I just,,, haven’t found many good ships lately.
But I also so agree that a lot of YA just doesn’t need romance. And maybe that’s why I haven’t been liking them is because I don’t connect with the romance and the book could’ve done without it.
Anyways, I won’t be too long because I have so many of your wonderful posts to catch up but this was such an amazing discussion <3<3
No worries 😊
I’m so so glad you enjoyed it and SO happy to see I’m not the only one feeling that way!
And YEEES about not finding many good ships lately, I don’t know but they all sound too superficial for me 😕
Thank you so so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts! Happy blog hopping and happy reading 😘😘
I’ve been seeing more posts with girls saying if there’s no romance I won’t read it or its boring etc… and honestly they’ve been making me a little sad! While I love romance in books (usually more as a side thing rather than main plot) there are so many great romanceless books and I can’t help but feel like they’re missing out. (One of the reasons Alice Oseman is my favourite author!) Maybe I also feel a bit like I’m missing out? As someone who hasn’t experienced much romance irl sometimes reading love story after love story seems a bit unrealistic to me. Still, I loved the points you made in this post. I think when a romance is done well it can be great, but when it’s just thrown in for the sake of romance then what’s the point?
I’m so glad I’m not the only one feeling that way! We don’t need romance in every story we read!
And yeees to Alice Oseman, I love her 😍
Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts! Happy reading 😘😘
I went into this post being like NO ABSOLUTELY NOT I LOVE ROMANCE. but then I agreed with your points lol I honestly will be turned off from reading a book if I find out there is no or little romance, but I agree that there is an obsession with it to the point that there’s lots of bad romance tropes. Especially the “love at first sight now I’m going to change everything about me” one you shared. I also agree that there is this “perfection” with YA romance. Sometimes there’s the enemies to lovers but that’s not the same as all that awkwardness that comes with romance. I’ve been with my husband for 12 years but when we first met it was a whole lotta awkwardness and saying the wrong things. It wasn’t smooth like all these books show lol So, yeah, I love romance in all my books but it has to be done right and I would like to see more diversity in it + not the all-consuming type of love.
Haha! I too absolutely love romance in books! 🙈🙈
YES, YES, YES! Totally agree with you on everything!
Thank you so so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts! Happy reading 😘😘
For a while now I’ve felt like there is too much romance in YA. I go into the store (with no interest in a romance) look at a promising cover, start reading the summary, temporarily get excited by the plot, only to read something that clearly shows that the two main characters are going to mess up a good story by getting into some romantic entanglement. I feel like after Twilight blew up, new writers especially, started saturating their stories with romance (perhaps in an effort to capture similar popularity?). I want to read a good story with adventure, action, heart racing moments, etc. but I have to contend with the plot being bogged down with ridiculous moments of the main characters obsessing or mooning over each other. WHY does every main character (especially if it is a boy and girl) end up in a romantic relationship? Let’s take the Hunger Games. It was a good story but I kept thinking why was this romantic triangle added to it? It was such a strong story that dealt with serious and complex issues that we see in real life. But then the author felt compelled to add this immature love triangle to it . . . The story could have easily stood on its own without it and not have lost popularity. Let’s look at Eragon. If you could get past the fact the author basically had NO original ideas and probably should be sued by various people for plagiarism . . . the story took a turn for the worst when the main character starting literally obsessing over the female elf. His behavior was darn creepy and annoying to read.
But anyway I would love to be able to find a good YA novel with no romance.
YES! YES! YES! 100% agree with you! Please give us good YA books without romance!!
Thank you so so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts on the topic! 😘😘😘
I’m a big fan of romances in general, but even I can enjoy a book that doesn’t center a romance. And I’d definitely prefer no romance over a toxic relationship portrayed as something wonderful and aspirational. My only complaint is when a book is marketed as a romance, but then doesn’t feature one. I’ve had that a few times and because my expectations were that there would be a romance, the book disappointed me when it focused on something else instead!
Yeeees! 100% agree!
I don’t think it happened to me but yes, I would also be totally disappointed!!
Thank you so much for stopping by, happy reading 😘😘
