Hello everyone! How are you? I hope you’re all back on your feet after the CRAZINESS of Christmas festivities! Today, I thought I would come back with something sweet and relaxing to read, right before getting back into preparation for all of you folks doing something special for the New Year’s Eve! So. Let’s be very obvious here, and talk about books, shall we?

  • Have fun, of course!
DECEMBER IS A TIME WHEN FRIENDS AND FAMILIES COME TOGETHER AND CELEBRATE. NAME ONE BOOK YOU WOULD GIVE AS A GIFT.

i'll give you the sunI guess this depends on who I’m supposed to give a gift to… Right now, I’m thinking about this GORGEOUS book I just finished reading, I’ll Give You The Sun. It was so, so beautiful, that I would totally consider giving it as a gift. Another copy, not mine, obviously. THIS IS MY BOOK.

JANUARY BEGINS A NEW YEAR. NAME A RESOLUTION YOU MADE THIS YEAR AND IF YOU’VE KEPT IT OR NOT.

I’m so sorry, but I don’t think that I made resolutions last January, because I can’t remember any, ahah, so I don’t even know if I kept it, or not… Sorry, haha!

FEBRUARY IS THE MONTH FOR RELATIONSHIPS. NAME YOUR FAVOURITE BOOK RELATIONSHIP: ROMANTIC, PLATONIC, OR FAMILIAL, YOUR CHOICE!

emmy and oliverto all the boys i've loved beforeWow, there are so many book relationships I really enjoyed. I loved Emmy & Oliver’s friends, and romantic relationship in the book of the same name. It was one of my favorites this year, even. If we’re talking about sisterhood, I absolutely LOVED Kitty & Lara Jean in To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. I love Kitty. She’s so…Kitty.

MARCH IS THE MONTH FOR LUCK AND NEW BEGINNINGS. NAME A BOOK OR SERIES THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO RE-EXPERIENCE AS IF YOU’D NEVER READ IT.

we were liarsI know that this book wasn’t for everyone, there are lots of people who weren’t impressed by it. I, on the contrary, loved We were liars by E. Lockhart, and it’s one of those books I wish I could experience all over again. Because that ending, well, it kind of shocked me.

APRIL IS A SPECTACULARLY ORDINARY MONTH. NAME A BOOK THAT WAS SO OVER-HYPED THAT IT JUST COULD NOT LIVE UP TO YOUR EXPECTATIONS.

magoniaI think there was a time where Magonia, by Maria Dahvana Headley, was such a hyped book. I kept hearing about it everywhere, and, obviously, I got curious. But I have to say, despite this gorgeous cover, I was kind of disappointed by all the weirdness of that universe…it was quite okay, but not as amazing as I wanted it to be.

MAY IS THE MONTH WHEN FLOWERS START TO BLOOM. NAME A BOOK THAT WAS A PLEASANT SURPRISE TO YOU.

because you'll never meet meBecause You’ll Never Meet Me, by Leah Thomas, was such a WEIRD, yet very unexpected story. I ended up really enjoying this contemporary story…or was it really contemporary? After that ending, we don’t really know. But it was really really good.

JUNE IS THE TIME TO TAKE A BREAK. NAME A BOOK OR GENRE THAT YOU LIKE TO READ WHEN YOU JUST NEED TO CHECK OUT.

When I need to chill, and just think about nothing, my to-go genre has to be contemporary romance. A cute, sweet book, sometimes with a love story, sometimes with family relationships. I love that, and it’s the perfect genre when I want to relax.

JULY IS THE TIME TO CELEBRATE YOUR INDEPENDENCE! NAME A BOOK THAT MADE YOU SEE FIREWORKS. (FIGURATIVELY. PLEASE DON’T LIGHT BOOKS ON FIRE).

sanctuary bayFireworks? Wow, hm, in my latest reads, I would totally pick Sanctuary Bay by Laura J. Burns and Melinda Metz. This book was completely NOT what I expected it to be, and it surely kind of went up in flames…in all the senses of that expression. I loved it!

AUGUST IS THE HOTTEST MONTH OF THE YEAR. PICK AN UP-AND-COMING AUTHOR THAT YOU THINK WILL BE THE NEXT BIG THING.

simonOh, wow, the next big thing…This one is going to be easy, and I can just say Becky Albertalli, because her debut, Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda, was SUCH a huge success, that I’m sure anything she will write next will be amazing too. And everyone will be waiting for it.

SEPTEMBER IS TIME FOR STUDENTS TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL! PICK A BOOK YOU READ FOR SCHOOL THAT YOU ACTUALLY ENJOYED.

Okay, I’m going to cheat on that one, because right now I can’t think about a book I really loved, that I read for school. There’s this book, though, that I read on my own, and presented in school. It was Never Let Me Go, by Kazuo Ishiguro. That book will break your heart, and leave you awake at night thinking about life. It’s THAT good. Read it.

OCTOBER IS TIME TO CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN. PICK ONE CHARACTER YOU WOULD LOVE TO DRESS UP AS FOR HALLOWEEN.

mara dyer 3shatter meHm, that’s a great question…I would dress up as Mara Dyer, because that would be crazy and kind of very very VERY creepy, at times, too. I would love to try and dress up as Juliet,  from the Shatter Me series, and be the ALL powerful girl of the party. That would be pretty damn cool, I think.

NOVEMBER IS THE MONTH WHEN WE’RE REMINDED OF HOW MUCH WE HAVE TO BE THANKFUL FOR. CHOOSE ONE BOOK YOU’RE GRATEFUL FOR HAVING READ AND GIVE A SHOUT-OUT TO THE PERSON WHO RECOMMENDED IT!

  1. I can relate to so many of your answers! I would totally love to re-experience We Were Liars, because I flew through it in one day and was destroyed and sobbing by the end! I don’t think I could recreate it with a reread. And dressing up as Juliet would be interesting, but how to do it? Doesn’t she just wear a skin-tight bodysuit? She’s such an awesome character though!

    1. Oh yay, I’m so glad to hear you loved We Were Liars, too! It was such an intense read, but yes, I don’t think I ever could feel the way I felt when I first read it!
I think she does, actually, haha, I can’t really imagine myself wearing that…hahaha. I mainly put her there because I would love to feel as awesome as she it 😀

  2. I’m so glad you loved I’ll Give You The Sun! It’s one of my favourite books and it’s sort of been my personal mission to get everyone to read it! I also really enjoyed We Were Liars and I can relate to wanting to go back and re-experience it but then again I feel like that for every book I love *cough* Harry Potter…
    Loved these answers!

  4. So many pretty contemporaries in this! I’m particularly excited for Sanctuary Bay and Emmy & Oliver. I recently got both of them electronically. And ahh, Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens really was a big success; it’s such a cute story though. Blue! ❤ And happy new year, Marie! 😀

  7. Ooo I love this tag!
I agree that Magonia was a bit underwhelming, esp since it was blurbed by Neil Gaiman who is one of my favourites. I LOVE Because You’ll Never Meet Me and was so happy to see it was speculative fiction, it was adorable!
Hope you had a good Christmas and New Year 😀

    1. So glad you like it Aentee! ❤ Yes, that's one of the reasons I wanted to read the book in the first place, too…well, maybe my expectations were too high on that one! 🙂
Thank you so much, I did, I hope you did too! Happy New Year Aentee, and all the best for 2016! ❤

  8. I feel exactly the same way for Magonia – it was too hyped up for me, and it ended up being a massive disappointment. I just couldn’t get into it, and just got bored! The Accident Season is on my to-read shelf… it looks so good, and there’s so much hype, so I’ll definitely have to get to it soon.

Great post, Marie! Best wishes for 2016 from me ❤
