“ I’d wanted to be a writer my whole life. My other writer friends from college became teachers, or went into journalism, but I didn’t want anything else telling me that I was a writer. What I mean is, a journalist or an editor can still feel like a writer, even if they haven’t touched their novel in weeks. But I didn’t have that, if I wasn’t writing, then I wasn’t a writer, and if I wasn’t a writer- Well not being a writer was an unacceptable idea.”
