It’s still the best season of the year (for me) in my corner of the world and I intend on enjoying it as best as I can. I’m a summer plant, what can I say 🌻 and that also starts (and ends) with some good YA books with summer romances.
You know me: I’m YA contemporary trash and, yes, if you give me summer times, adorable romantic shenanigans, friends to lovers or enemies to lovers or whatever, I’m just here for it. If you ask me, we all need, in any times, some soft reads that make us smile and dream of the best summer times.
I compiled here today a small list of some of my favorite YA books that feature a summer romance. Some of them are not necessarily ALL about the love and that’s why I love them so much. They also have lovely character growth, family ties, complex friendships at times and just, overall, are GREAT.

Between You, Me and the Honeybees is one of my favorite books of ALL times. Like, seriously. I just adore it. Josie wants to take over the bee-keeping family business, so she turned down the college offer she had… without telling her mom. Oh and she’s also developing a crush on the neighbor’s grandson, adorably handsome… and a Blumstein, sworn enemy of Josie’s family. Complex friendships, bee-keeping, adorable forbidden summer friendship turning into romance, I’m soft and I adore this, READ IT.

We Can’t Keep Meeting Like This, Rachel Lynn Solomon
Rachel Lynn Solomon remains one of my favorite authors of ALL times. We Can’t Keep Meeting Like This is such a fun summer romance, but it’s not only that. It also deals with mental health, friendships, family relationships and it’s just so, so good. It’s about Quinn and Tarek, working yet again together in a summer of weddings after Quinn sent Tarek a message left unanswered, revealing her crush to him. Such a lovely contemporary read.

Small Town Hearts, Lillie Vale
Small Town Hearts is filled with beachy, summery feelings, it makes me want to run in the sand, eat cakes and build sandcastles with people I love. Babe’s fresh out of high school and ready to have the best summer of her life… until a kiss shatters her friendships, a new cute artist comes into town and her ex-girlfriend comes back around… this is a heartwarming, adorable summer romance you’ll fall for. I really did.

Our Way Back To Always, Nina Moreno
Fans of friends to lovers romance, this one’s for you. Lou and Sam used to be inseparable, until a middle school incident. Now, summer of their senior year, Lou finds a bucketlist she and Sam wrote as kids, a list of goals they’d wanted to accomplish by that time… This book was such an endearing, adorable read with characters that you want to hug, okay. A perfect summer read!

The Impossiblity of Us, Katy Upperman
Oh I read The Impossibility of Us a while ago, yet immediately thought about it when I came up with this list. After her brother’s death in Afghanistan, Elise and her mother move from San Francisco to a sleepy, coastal town. There, Elise meets Mati… This book was beautiful, really. It’s a summer romance that’s heartwarming, heartbreaking, emotional and hopeful at the same time. It’s beautiful.

Bad at Love, Gabriela Martins
Bad at Love is such a fun summer read. Honestly, if you’re looking for something entertaining set in the show-biz, you’ll love this. It’s about Daniel, renowned “bad boy” of a popular boys band and Sasha, getting close to him in order to find a story there, a story that might land her a scholarship to the school of her dreams. Loved the characters, the soft romance and Los Angeles setting!

My Life Next Door, Huntley Fitzpatrick
Another ‘old but good’ one! In My Life Next Door, Samantha envies the Garretts, the loud, big family living next door to her and her senator’s mother… until one day, Jase Garrett climbs up her window and changes everything. This is a story about falling in love for the first time, yet it’s also about friendships and family and it’s absolutely adorable, I loved it very very much.

You Say it First, Katie Cotugno
You Say It First is another favorite! It’s about Meg, phonebanking at a voter registration call center during the summer. One day, she gets a small-town boy, Colby, on the line.. A first day on the phone that turns into a long-distance friendship, a once in a lifetime connection… Honestly, this book just caught me by surprise. I loved how three-dimensional, flawed, unique these characters were and loved seeing them grow as individuals in this story, too. Also, SO many feels!!

A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow, Laura Taylor Namey
I need everyone to read this, because I need ton scream about it, because I LOVE IT OKAY. After a couple of incidents, Lila Reyes is sent to spend the summer in England with family friends, where she meets Orion… This book is about being outside of your comfort zone, finding home away from home and finding yourself again. It made me want to cry, it was so good and the romance, oh, so soft. I’m in love.

The Way You Make Me Feel, Maurene Goo
Clara loves a good prank… but when she takes one too far, she’s sentenced to work for the summer on her father’s food truck with a classmate she doesn’t really like. The Way You Make Me Feel is about a summer of changes, of growing up, of crushes on adorable boys and of finding yourself where you least expect it. It’s such a lovely read!

Every time I see a Huntley Fitzpatrick book, I want to cry. Gone too soon. That was a stupendous book, and I have vowed to read her other books by the end of this year.
