I am most definitely trying to talk more about myself on here. It’s a struggle at times, because I am not too keen on sharing tons of things. My life isn’t that fascinating, really, but many people here have been asking to hear more about myself on here…I’m not sure why?! BUT I LOVE YOU ALL. In making this very step towards talking a bit more about myself, I’m actually going to be talking about…well, books. #bookwormlogic.
I have an insane amount of awards and tags to catch up on, because so many people have been nominating me. It’s been such an honor, I love you all and you all have fascinating questions! This blog post will already be way too long, but I will do two awards today and answer the lovely questions of two bloggers here: the lovely Dani, for The Sunshine Blogger Award, and the lovely Darby, for the Liebster Award. Here goes…ready for all the questions?!
What is your favorite genre?
A couple years earlier, I would have answered this question without a second thought and told you, contemporary. I’m still a fierce lover of young adult contemporary and it will forever remain the genre I turn towards first, but…I don’t know, guys. I’m loving all of these fantasy books so much more now as well. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH ME?
What was your favorite book when you were in elementary school?
I think this is probably my cue to tell you I have the memory of a goldfish?! Haha, I just can’t remember right now what I used to read in elementary school. I read French books?
What is your biggest bookish pet peeve?
I have a thing for movie tie-in covers. I know it’s all a marketing trick or something and I appreciate that it brings more people to read a particular book, but… I don’t know, I’m always feeling like it forces people to imagine characters a certain way, which I am not a fan of. If that makes any sense?
What books are currently on your nightstand?
TOO MANY BOOKS. Actually, it’s looking okay, I know. But…I don’t buy tons of books at a time, so…it’s a LOT already for me. Excuse the poor quality picture I took here.
If you could only bring 3 books with you to a deserted island, what would they be?
I would probably have to go with some of my favorite books, so… John Green’s Looking for Alaska, Lauren Oliver’s Delirium and Philip Pullman’s Northern Lights. But is there a reason I couldn’t bring my whole bookshelves with me? Whatever it is, it’s not valid and IT IS COMING WITH ME.
If you had to chose a dystopian world to be sent to, which would it be and why?
Okay, first of all…WHY would I want to be sent to a dystopian world?! This is such a cruel question haha. I think I would like to pick……
yeah. nothing.
Under what circumstances would you DNF a book?
Confidence-time: I rarely ever DNF a book. I’m buying about 99% of my books, since I don’t have a library to borrow books from or anything like that. Given that I spent money for the books, I always take extra-care whenever I’m picking the books I want, and try and be sure that I will enjoy them a minimum amount, so… yes. I can’t remember the last book I DNF-ed.
Buuut yes I will answer this question and say that I would probably DNF a book if the characters were too unbearable or something?
What types of characters do you love most? (i.e. like genre but for characters, examples: strong female, hot love interest, nerds, pirates, if you can group them and love them, name them!)
I like characters I can relate to. I like the ones that feel human, the ones that are crippled with anxiety and other quirks I can actually relate to. I love nerdy characters as well, I love the ones that are a bit home-y, hanging out in pajamas and baking cookies (hello Lara Jean).
Obviously I love strong characters as well ; I also realized there is something about…grey characters – such as in the young elites – that makes me…well, weirdly happy. They are just SO COMPLEX.
If you wrote a book, what would it be about?
Aerm…I’m actually writing a book. It’s a contemporary / mystery about childhood friends, broken hearts, school pressure, boarding schools and secrets in the wood. Basically. I might share a full synopsis of it all someday because right now it’s still very confusing. Writing IS confusing.
If a band were to be featured in a fictional story, which would you want it to be and why?
Funny thing. I actually want to say The Jonas Brothers because this is all of my teenage years. #oops.
Favorite book universe and why?
Hm….this is such a hard question. I love so many universes in books and I’m amazed by the author’s imagination. I would really like to pick Warcross for that one though, Marie Lu’s upcoming book, because the whole world was just SO COOL.
What are your favorite blog posts to write and why?
I have so many favorite types of blog posts, I really enjoy writing everything on my blog. Since I haven’t been actively writing blog posts the past month, I can’t really say, but I’m always loving to share my thoughts on blogging and all of its struggles. I might be slightly obsessed about it all.
What is your favorite thing about blogging?
Easy answer: I just love how much time I spend on here drafting blog posts. Ha.Ha.Ha. Just kidding. I mean I’m spending my weekends on this and I love it and basically have no life buuuut it’s NOT my favorite thing. My favorite thing is obviously YOU GUYS.
White, milk, or dark chocolate?
This question is SO HARD because I LOVE ALL CHOCOLATES?! Right now, I might pick dark chocolate, but….I DON’T KNOW.
What was the last movie you saw?
I will cheat -already, I know-, but I watch TONS of tv shows. Well, not as much as Kat, but I do, so…the last TV Show I watched was The Bold Type. It is SO GOOD.
What is your lucky number?
I don’t really know if I have a lucky number? I’m just not thinking about that. Maybe it would be like, 7 or something.
Who is your favorite Disney princess?
OBVIOUS ANSWER. I actually love Belle so much. I mean, she’s just like me.
If you could teleport to any city in the world which would it be? If you had to make your way home on you own would it still be the same city?
This question is so hard…I think I might have to say London, because there is not one day where I am NOT thinking about going to London. But no, if I had to make my way home, it probably wouldn’t be in London.

I love this post for getting to know you a little better, you have a great way of writing and you saying your writing makes me want to read it!!!
Marie says
Aww, thank you so much for your sweet comment! <3 <3
Tatiana says
I really enjoyed reading all of your answers!! I agree with most of them tbh??
Marie says
Awww thank you so much, Tatiana, so glad you could relate <3 <3
Bridget says
Your book sounds very intriguing! I definitely would to hear more about it! 😛
Marie says
Aww, thank you, Bridget! I might share more about it sometime soon – at least I will try. I’m very nervous to talk about my writing ahah 🙂 Thank you! xx
Lois says
A toss up between fantasy and contemporary has to be my favourite genre. It all depends on my mood most days. Most of the time I don’t really care about the genre because I find I gravitate towards characters more than anything. Girl Out of Water is a book I’m hoping I can tick off my tbr list by the end of the year.
Also your book sounds all kinds of awesome and three cheers for the Jonas Brothers. My teenage self was definitely a BIG fan. Plus they’ve got some epic tunes haha.
Marie says
Oh yes, I gravitate towards characters so much just as well. They are what makes or break a book, well, almost, ahah, they matter a whole lot 🙂
I’m hoping to be able to read it before the end of the year as well! I’ve heard wonderful things about this book, I can’t wait to get to it 🙂
REALLY? I was such a huge fan of the Jonas Brothers – I’m feeling all nostalgic just thinking about them all. One of my favorite song will forever remain one of them (WYLMITE) ahah, I can’t help it 😛
Thank you so much, Lois! <3 <3 <3
Jane the Raincity Librarian says
I DNF books All.The.Time. Life is too short, and my free time far too limited, to waste a precious moment on a book that just isn’t working for me! Thankfully I work in a library, so I rarely buy books anymore, which means I don’t have to feel guilty when I return books half-read. 🙂
Marie says
Ohh, it’s so great you’re working at a library – have access to ALL THE BOOKS! I couldn’t stop myself and would want to read all the books ahah 🙂
Thank you for your sweet comment <3 <3
Gia says
Omg I hate movie tie-in covers too! I didn’t know that bothered anyone else haha! And I think it’s a great idea to talk more about yourself. It is your blog, after all! 🙂
Marie says
Ahah oh well no you’re not alone – I’m not a fan of these either, they bother me so much :/ Thank you so much! <3
Shanah - Bionic Book Worm says
Thanks for the chance to get to know you better ☺️
Marie says
Aww, thank you for the sweet comment – I’m glad you enjoyed reading this post 🙂 <3
lindseyhabets says
I’d say my favorite genre is fantasy, though contemporary takes a real close second place 🙂 But a favorite book within each genre? I can’t choose 😉
I think I’d love to live in the Harry Potter world, in the Shire or in the Red London of the Shades of Magic series the most 🙂
I’m terrible at DNF’ing, mostly because I usually struggle with beginnings so I keep pushing through because I don’t want to miss out on a good book. And then I’m already past the DNF-point so even if it’s not that good I might as well finish…
Also, milk chocolate! Definitely. Or white chocolate is good too! And dark chocolate as well… Anyway, CHOCOLATE YAY 😉
Marie says
Ohh yes, I would love to live in the Harry Potter world just as well, could be amazing <3 <3
Ahah, well you're exactly just like me on DNF-ing books. I'm always pushing and pushing, and in the end, well;..might as well finish the book anyway ahah 🙂
ALL THE CHOCOLATE IS GOOD ahah, it's hard to choose, right? 🙂
Thank you so much for your sweet comment! <3 <3 <3
nikkisnovelniche says
Totally agree with your pet-peeve about the movie-tie in covers. 99% of the time we imagine the characters better in our own heads and the cover just ruins it for us! Not to mention that I usually get tricked into buying a book again if the cover changes lol!
Marie says
Hahaha, right – sometimes I’m just confused by cover changes and almost buy the same books twice as well, hahaha.
Thank you so much for your sweet comment! <3 <3
nikkisnovelniche says
I actually downloaded an app called Book Catalogue and scanned all my books into it just to avoid buying books twice lol
Marie says
OHHH there is an app?! Okay, that’s SO cool haha, such a great idea! ?
Raven @ Dreamy Addictions says
My favorite genre is fantasy but I also check out Contemporary books too. I don’t like DNF’ing books and I also hate movie tie-in covers. I don’t know why publishers release books with movie tie-in covers, aren’t they aware that we hate them.
Marie says
I guess not. It’s all a marketing trick, to get more people to buy the book, but…it’s just sooooo annoying, haha,
Thank you so much, Raven! <3 <3
Zovi says
It’s so nice to get to know you better through these answers. My favorite genre is probably Young Adult and Fantasy. I have tons of favorite books which makes it really hard for me to choose so some of them are : Lunar Chronicles (series), The School for Good And Evil Series and definitely Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover which is a must read. I just love that book and it even has it’s own personal playlist which makes reading the book even more enjoyable.
I DNF a book only once because I just couldn’t continue because I just lost interest but that was only once. Or then I always finish the book even it’s just for the joy of reading and completing the book.
I LOVEEEE milk and white chocolate! They are just so irresistible.
I love Sarah Dessen. She is an amazing author. Did you enjoy reading ‘Just Listen’?
Marie says
Oh thank you so, so much for your sweet comment, I’m really glad you liked this post 🙂
I LOVE The Lunar Chronicles, it’s one of my favorite serie- and a rare one that gets better and better with each book! So glad you love it too! <3
RIGHT? Who can resist chocolate? I know I can't haha. <3
I haven't read it yet, but I can't wait. I only read one book by her so far ( The Truth About Forever) and really enjoyed it so, I can't wait 😀
Valerie @ Valerie's Musings says
Seriously, “Just Listen” needs to be next up on your reading list. It’s so absolutely fantastic! I read it when it first came out and I’ve re-read it several times. The ebook was recently on sale so I’ve got that now and thinking of re-reading it again!
Marie says
Ohhh I’m so glad you loved it so much, Valerie! I will read it soon for sure, I can’t WAIT now! 🙂 <3
Zovi says
I totally agree with you. With each passing book I couldn’t help falling in love with the characters and there lives.
I’ve read The Truth About Forever too. It was my first Sarah Dessen’s book and I really enjoyed reading it so I bought a few more books from the author but some of their plot lines are pretty similar so at one point her books got a little predictable. But, I hope you read Just Listen soon and enjoy it!
Have a good day ❤️
Marie says
That’s what I heard – I think I’ll just make sure not to read them all one after another, so I’ll enjoy them 🙂 thank you! have a lovely day!
Beth (Reading Every Night) says
Great answers for these questions Marie! I love that you’re loving the fantasy genre at the moment, and I’m certainly not going to complain that it’s becoming one of your favourites either! 😀
I’m not really a fan of movie tie-in covers. I mean don’t get me wrong it’s a great way to introduce fans of the movie to the book but I always think the original covers are better, and yeah I’d take my bookshelves with me to a desert island as well. Probably unrealistic but then again me being stranded on a desert island is unrealistic as well. 😀
I love white chocolate and hate dark chocolate, and yay I’m glad to see London made your list for the last question!
Great answers Marie, I really loved reading this post. 😀 <3
Marie says
Oh thank you so much, Beth! Ahah, it’s all your fault – partly – for recommending all of these FANTASTIC BOOKS for so long! 😛
Ohhh you hate dark chocolate? It’s one of my favorites, ahah. But white chocolate is so, so good as well 😛
Thank you so much! <3 <3
Beth (Reading Every Night) says
That’s all right. And I would say sorry but I’m really not, especially when one of the fantasy books you’ve read and loved is the Shades of Magic series. 🙂
Yeah never been a fan of it. People tend to act personally insulted when I say I prefer white chocolate over dark.
That’s all right. 🙂 ❤️
Marie says
Oh well…I’m not insulted at all, if that makes you feel better, ahah, I love white chocolate as welll 🙂
Beth (Reading Every Night) says
Chocolate in general is just amazing! 😀
Marie says
Ohh yes! ?
my1stchapter says
um where is the preorder button for that WIP????
this was such an awesome post, i honestly loved reading your answers
Marie says
Awwww what, you are WAY too sweet, thank you for the sweet words! I’m hoping to share more about my WIP soon…well, I’ll try to ahah 😛 <3 <3 Thank you!! <3
May @ Forever and Everly says
ALL THE FRIENDS GIFS GIVE ME LIFE. <3 <3 And mwahahaha WE HAVE CORRUPTED YOU MARIE. Although the exact opposite thing happened to me — I used to be a hardcore fantasy lover, but then I started reading contemporaries and fell in love! (Tho fantasy will always be my favorite ahah.) OMGGG are you going to start THUG soon?? Because I FINALLY have a copy and it would be so great to buddy read it with you?? If you want to, of course! AND YESS finally someone who appreciates the beauty of dark chocolate! If you find the right one, it won't be too sweet, but not too bitter either!
Marie says
AHHH this makes me so happy. Did you watch ALL the seasons yet, May? You HAVE TO. <3 <3
WELL… I would very much LOVE to buddy read THUG with you, I am like, SUPER nervous to read it all alone?!! I will message you on Goodreads, to be sure you see it?! Because we could read it right noow. <3 <3
Exactly! Oh I'm so glad you get the love for dark chocolate ahah 😛 <3
Thank you so much for your sweet comment, May!! <3 <3
May @ Forever and Everly says
NOOOO I HAVEN’T WATCHED ALL THE SEASONS YET. I haven’t been able to watch it as much now that school started. :'(
Ooh, I’ll make sure to reply to the message!!
Marie says
I hope you’ll watch ALL THE SEASONS soon so we can talk about it all!! <3 <3
The Petite Book Blogger says
Ahh!!! Your book sounds amazing! I can’t wait to read it one day <3
Marie says
Awww, thank you so, so much!! I hope you’ll be able to someday <3 <3
Kat Impossible says
Darling, no one watches as many TV shows as I do hahaha it’s just not possible. And I totally hear you on disliking TV tie-ins, but I am the opposite. In most cases, I actively seek them out hahaha
Marie says
Haha, YOU ARE THE QUEEN OF TV SHOWS ? Ohhh really? I did not know that ahah – you actually prefer them? 🙂
Kat Impossible says
In most cases, yes! Especially if I like someone from the cast. That’s why I mostly own the movie tie-ins (except for series, because then I get angry when I can’t get the sequels with the same cover because they stopped the TV show or something like that)
Marie says
I get it ahah, series with covers that don’t match make me mad ahah.
amortalreader1 says
FRIENDS GIFS- Yaaay. Whose your favourite character btw? Totally sidelining here but hey it’s your fault for using the gifs.
Agree with so many of your answers here and the Dystopian world question is such a good yet cruel question, i’m really trying to think which one I would like to be in and I’m kind of leaning towards Divergent – Chicago. Is it because i’m imagining myself with Four… Maybe..
It seems a bit tamer than the others, i’ve read the other books (refusing to acknowledge the third happened) but I am just thinking of it capture the flag games, big wheel. Might be a little fun.
Also movie tie in covers get me as well. I prefer the original covers over movie tie in ones anyday.
Amazing post as always x
Marie says
? I can’t blame you here. I basically WANTED to talk about Friends. I love this show too much for words. It is SO hard to choose one favorite character…I love them all so much for different reasons?! Also, everyone seems to hate Ross (that’s the popular opinion anyway) but…I kind of love him? ? I don’t knooooow which character to choose. Can you choose one? Which one’s your favorite? 🙂
OH that’s such a great answer, Hannah – that capture the flag game would be pretty cool to play, and yes, FOUR. But right, that last book was just…a big NO. 🙁
Thank you so, so much! xx
amortalreader1 says
How can you hate Ross? He’s Rachel’s Lobster…. He definitely has his moments where I’m like Ross i’m gonna come into my TV Screen and slap you. But I do love you. I love them all but I think Chandler might be my ultimate fave.
You can join me in Divergent Chicago and we can share Four! How angry are you that they aren’t finishing the movies anymore though? I hate it, i just need them to finish them.
Marie says
Hahahaha, oh yes, sometimes he does deserve to be slapped. I can’t help but love him, though. Oh yes Chandler is so, so great <3 <3
RIGHT??? I am SO angry at them – it is stupid to just stop right in the middle of it all. I was so curious to see how the ending would translate on screen, if they would keep it this way or not.
amortalreader1 says
They are thinking of making a TV show or something now aren’t they? If they are i’ll give it a try like Shadowhunters but I dunno how I feel about the idea!
Marie says
Ohhh yes, I heard that rumor but I don’t know if it’s just a rumor, or if there is more to it all. I don’t know how I feel about it either…sometimes I just want to tell them, “give up already, let it be a book” ?
Lauren says
I loved reading these answers, Marie! I feel like I know you a little better now 🙂
First, I’m glad to see THUG is on your night stand. I’m excited to hear your thoughts on that one. Second, Looking for Alaska would be on my list too! I wouldn’t go without a John Green book and LFA is definitely my favourite one, so, yeah, easy choice 🙂
Lastly, I love how you said “writing IS confusing” because it’s SO TRUE. It’s confusing as heck! Right now, I’m kind of trying to figure out the middle of my book and it’s a PAIN. I’m so confused as to how I’m going to go from the beginning to the end ahaha 😀
Marie says
Aww thank you, Lauren, I’m so glad you enjoyed this 🙂
I can’t wait to read THUG, but I am also very, very nervous about it? I hope I’ll love it 🙂
Ohhh I get the feeling – the middle of the book is THE WORST PART. I’m struggling with it all as well…well, I was, now I’m at the last part of my WIP, but…editing that whole middle will be hard ? Best of luck for your writing, you can do this! <3 <3
Lauren says
I’m sure you’ll love it! It’s a great book. I understand the nervous anticipation though 🙂
YES, the middle part is definitely the worst. But WE GOT THIS. We’re going to finish it and we’re going to edit it until we’re sick of it but it’s going to be fabulous 🙂 <3
Marie says
Yes yes yes YES, let’s hope so! <3 <3
Michelle says
Yay! I love reading about you Marie ??
Honestly ALL your answers were so great! I actually don’t mind some movie-tie-in covers; some actually work, like Me Before You and others are just horrible like Twilight! I so badly want to read Warcross so I can know what the hype is about, but from what I’ve heard it sounds like a pretty kickass fictional world ?
I love dark chocolate too, but my favourite is the white chocolate balls from Lindt. They are heaven ?
Marie says
Ohh thank you so, so much, Michelle! <3 <3 Oh you're right, some movie tie-ins aren't that bad, the Me Before You one is actually quite pretty…even if I still prefer the original ones better 🙂
OHHH yes, I can't WAIT for you to read Warcross. I loved this book so, so much, it was a pretty kickass book overall 🙂
How come I haven't tried these Lindt chocolate yet? I need to now 😛
Michelle says
Lindt is the best! I’ll also basically devour any chocolate that contains nuts ?
Marie says
Ohhhh YES, I love chocolate with nuts as well!! We will create a chocolate team ahah.
Valerie @ Valerie's Musings says
Great thoughts! It’s always nice when someone talks about themselves at least a little. I probably go overboard and find myself on the opposite end, sharing too much (knowing that does not seem to deter the sharing tho’). As far as chocolate goes, I like milk and dark – not a big fan of white tho’ I’ll eat it from time to time but usually only if it’s like frosting on a cupcake or something similar.
As I said above – “Just Listen” must be next on your to-read list. I’m not usually *this* passionate about a book but I absolutely love that one. 🙂
Marie says
Ohh thank you, Valerie! I’m sure it’s not too much, don’t worry 🙂
You are so making me want to eat cupcakes right now, ahah. I love white chocolate on pastries and cakes as well 🙂
I will read during this month for sure, I can’t WAIT to get to it – all of your praise and love is making me so impatient now 🙂
Shanti says
I like milk chocolate the most. I think contemporary ties with fantasy for my favourite genre, and I love Sabriel and Daughter of Smoke and Bone a LOT. I don’t DNF books much…sometimes I dng books I’m rereadng or else ones where I get bored or confused.
Marie says
I SO need to read Daughter of Smoke and Bone sometime, you have been mentioning it to me for a while now and…I’m so curious 🙂
Thank you so much, Shanti <3
theorangutanlibrarian says
hahaha I love your #bookwormlogic!! I’m the same- I struggle to talk about myself a lot. hehehe I love that blogging has made you like fantasy more- yay!!! I do not like movie tie-ins either. Yay northern lights! hehe I don’t think anyone wants to go to any dystopian world 😉 I love hearing more about your story 😀 And yay Belle!! Loved your answers!!
Marie says
Ohh thank you so so much! <3 I am so happy you love Northern Lights just as much as I do. It is a fantastic series <3 I can't wait for the book of dust to be released 🙂
Thank you so much! <3
theorangutanlibrarian says
You’re welcome!! <3 Yes- it's one of my all time faves!!! 😀 And me too!!! You're very welcome 😀 <3
Dani @ Perspective of a Writer says
Hey Marie ♥️ it’s so great you sharing a little something about yourself! You are such a kind person that I’m sure like many of us it’s so fun to get the details on Marie!! THANKS FOR ANSWERING MY QUESTIONS! You funny thing is almost every person I ask that City question of say London!! Doesn’t matter where they live… I just finished Warcross and wow… And I don’t DNF much either… I either start a book and after a chapter or two am not hooked and let it go back to the library or I read the book, either I’m obligated or I’m hooked enough to see where the author took it.
Marie says
HI Dani! <3 OH thank you so much, that's so sweet of you. I'm so happy you like this <3
Well;..I guess there is something about London that is quite great? 😛 I just love this city so much.
Thank YOU for asking these fun questions! <3
Dani @ Perspective of a Writer says
YES! I would live in London given the opportunity and if someone sent me there expecting me to get home… I’d insist they get me a job there too, lol! ?
Marie says
Hahahaa, same here!
camilleareads says
Yes, do come over to the dark fantasy side ? I guess it’s no surprise to say I love dark chocolate..?
Marie says
I AM COMING to the fantasy side… and I’m more and more okay with it? ? I LOVE IT NOW. What have you done with me, ahah.
Yay, dark chocolate is just soooo yummy! <3
jessicasblog45 says
I don’t have a favorite genre. I basically read anything. I did DNF one book. It was a Druid book. I just didn’t like how the book was going. And then I lost the book. I like milk chocolate.
Marie says
Ohh well that’s so great, so many different stories to love 🙂
Milk chocolate is so good as well 😛
Thank you so much for your sweet comment! <3
Ilsen Leon says
I do not like movie tie in editions and either and only in 2018 did I actually DNF a book and either way it’s only been one.
Marie says
YAY that’s great! I’m glad we have these things in common 🙂
