Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Brokeandbookish. This week’s theme is Top Ten Characters I’d love to revisit as an Adult. I’m guessing this means, characters we want to see once they are all grown up? I’m going to take it like that anyway, because I like it better, and, why not? So, let’s head into this. No spoilers, and if you want to discover the wonderful books, click on the title for a link to Goodreads!
1 • Everything, Everything, Nicola Yoon
I recently read this book, and I know it’s not been everyone’s favorite, basically because of the plot twist, but personally, I loved it. So much. And to be honest, I’d love to fast-forward a bit and see how Maddie’s doing now.
2 • Pretending to be Erica, Michelle Painchaud
If you’re into thriller/mystery books and you haven’t read that one yet, you are MAKING A MISTAKE. It’s a great book, with a huge focus on character development, and I loved it. Erica/Violet was such an interesting character, I would love to see what she’s up to now.
3 • I’ll Give You The Sun, Jandy Nelson
Can’t go without quoting that one, and I’m not even sorry. It was just too good, and let’s be honest, who wouldn’t want to know what those perfect people are up to now? .
4 • The Spectacular Now, Tim Tharp
That book was, well, the ending was very realistic, but leaving me kind of frustrated. What’s Sutter doing right now, is he okay? I NEED to know.
5 • The Mara Dyer series, Michelle Hodkin
Mara Dyer being one crazy rollercoaster of a book, I feel like I NEED to know what happens to her next. And Noah. And just, everything. It can’t just end, it’s the kind of book I want to read forever.
6 • Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour, Morgan Matson
So, we kind of left Amy & Roger and their epic road trip behind, but with those two, who doesn’t want to know what they’re up to now?
7 • My life next door, Huntley Fitzpatrick
AHH the Garretts. To be honest, I’d fast-forward ten years just to see how’s that crazy huge and fun family doing right now. A little bit for Jase, as well, okay.
8 • More than this, Patrick Ness
If you haven’t read that book, WHAT are you doing? GO read it now. I may not have read Patrick Ness’ most famous works (I will…) but that one. Damn, it’s a slap in the face. And that ending, UGH. MORE, I say.
9 • We were liars, E. Lockhart
I know that book wasn’t for everyone, sure, but… I really want to know what happens next. It was heartbreaking and just, I cried, okay. I did. Do I need more crying? No. But I still want to know.
10 • Uglies, Scott Westerfeld
One of my first dystopian books, and it was SO good. I would love to know what Tally’s up to now. Probably doing some mischievous things.
Interesting list. I haven’t read most of them but I’ll definitely check them out 🙂

I can’t believe that people didn’t like Everything, Everything because of the plot twist?!?!? It was such an incredible book! I 100% agree with you and wish that we could see what she’s up to 10 years later.

ME NEITHER! I thought it was so, so good, I loved it 🙂 Thank you so much! ❤

I’ve got the Mara Dyer series on my list to read eventually. I keep flirting with the idea of picking Uglies by Scott Westerfeld up. Part of me is just afraid I’m going to have to wade through a lot of girly crap, though. I think that’s the main thing keeping me away from it. Where are they then? My TTT.

Oh yes, you should read Mara Dyer, it was so, so good! I loved tthe world-building in Uglies, really, I think you might like it as well 🙂 thank you! ❤

See, I don’t *need* a lot of world building. I like bare bones stuff. Does it go into lots of detail?
LikeLiked by 1 person
OH no, there aren’t like pages and pages of description going on, the world building fit perfectly into the story, it’s right in the action, and you learn step by step 🙂

Ahh, okay. That’s a whole different ballgame then!

Sutter was on my list, too! And Aimee. I want to know how things ended up for both of them. Especially Sutter. The ending left much to be desired. Great choices!

OH yes, I definitely agree with you, I need to know how things turn out for them! 🙂 Thank you 🙂

Great list!! I have Everything, Everything on my bookshelf now. As of right now, I don’t know if I’ll enjoy it. I’m just trying to read more YA

I haven’t read More Than This by Patrick Ness and I love his dystopian series so I clearly need to get going on this. I didn’t read the Spectacular Now, but I saw the movie (I know, I know, not the same) but he would be an interesting character to see as an adult. But I worry that the realism of it might upset me haha

OH you should, then! More than this was such a great story, I loved it so much. I need to read his dystopian series soon, I have it on my TBR since…forever, ahah! I can’t wait 🙂
I thought the movie was quite good! 🙂 Ahah oh yes, I agree with you, even if I’d love to see what he becomes, I think it would make me sad, as well. Thank you so much for your sweet comment! ❤

And well, most of these books are on my TBR, some of which I luckily already own, so you're not ruining me too much this time !

Wait, the Spectacular Now has a book? How did I not know this? I loved the movie.
I’ve seen a lot of talk about the Uglies series and I’ve also seen it on a lot of DNF lists. I’m a bit hesitant to start it. What’s your thoughts on the series as a whole?
LikeLiked by 1 person
YES! It was quite good actually, if you liked the movie, I think you should enjoy it! 🙂 Well, to be honest, I absolutely LOVED it. Read it a while ago, but I love the world-building, the story, and even if sometimes the characters annoyed me, I loved the whole message about how society is obsessed with beauty. I loved it 🙂 I hope you’ll decide to read it, I’d love to know your thoughts on that one 🙂

I need to hunt that book down.
Good world building sounds great and the message sounds like something I’ll be into. I’ll give it a try and let you know once I’m done with it :D.

I completely agree with you I would LOVE to see a sequel for Jude and Noah. I feel there is still so much we could see of them, Noah starting his art again, Jude actually finishing her carving, the two of them just healing a little more. Honestly I just want more Jandy Nelson 😀
And yes after the ending to We Were Liars I feel there should be a sequel in the works, it can’t really end like that can it?! What happens to Cadence next after she knows the truth, I just feel like there is so much that can still be explored, although I dunno maybe that’s why I loved this book so much, because of the open ending, it was full of possibilities for Cadence in a way.
Great picks for this week! 😀

Oh yes me too, I want and NEED more Jandy Nelson right now, I can’t wait to read her next book, but it’s out in 2017 or something I think 😦
Thank you so, so much!

Yeah I saw 2017 as well. At the moment though I’d settle for a blurb and cover! There are so many amazing books being released next year that we’ll have to wait ages for 😦
That’s all right ❤️

At least we have a title, it could be worse it could be called Untitled still or something 😀 I already feel like this book is going to be a five star read for me, her other two have and I doubt this one will be any different!
LikeLiked by 1 person
OH yes, at least we have a great title to speculate on, for now, ahah. I’m sure it won’t be different either, her other books were just too good, I am so excited to read more! 🙂
LikeLiked by 1 person
Well, we can also probably guess based on the other Jandy Nelson books what some of the themes are going to be. I reckon there’ll be a strong sibling relationship (and I really hope there is because I love the way Jandy Nelson writes family relationships!)
LikeLiked by 1 person
OH I agree! I’m so glad there’s always such a big place for family in her books, and it’s like magic, how she manages to perfectly captures the feeling of these relationships, the struggles etc. I can’t wait!
LikeLiked by 1 person
It’s something that isn’t in a lot of other YA novels, even contemporary ones. The relationships between siblings and parents are either non-existent or not developed to the same extent Jandy Nelson does.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Exactly, and this makes me a bit mad, because I think that in YA, especially contemporary, those relationships are so, so important, parental figures and siblings are taking such a huge part of our lives, especially as a teenager, and it’s too bad they aren’t featured more. I’m glad Jandy Nelson does that with perfection!
LikeLiked by 1 person
Oh exactly, it seems weird when you have books about teenagers and their family just seems to be shunted off to one side because, for most people in real life, that isn’t at all accurate. There needs to be more books like Jandy Nelson’s where family relationships play as big a part as the romantic ones.

I think we agree on that 🙂

AHHH, seeing I’ll Give You the Sun in the future would be so very very great 🙂 My love for that book shows no limits and I really just want more 😛 Although it wasn’t much, I was glad to see a little of Amy and Roger in Second Chance Summer (even if it was only one sentence XD ) ARGH I HAVE MADE A MISTAKE. I HAVE NOT READ PRETENDING TO BE ERICA but I WILL. The cover makes me want to eat my eyeballs ITS SO LOVELY. I loved the Sea of Tranquility and the openish sort of ending but I wouldn’t mind to revisit that one 🙂 It was so great and its one of my favourites. Also Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe (AND SURPRISE BOOK 2), I’m so excited!
LikeLiked by 1 person
HOW WHAT? Where what sentence, I missed Amy & Roger’s comeback in that book? I read it just a week ago, hahaha I can’t believe I missed that!
You should read Pretending to be Erica, it was so so great, such a gripping story, I would love to know whether you like it or not!
Ohhh Aristotle and Dante, yes, SO excited for the second book!!

Aha it really is a tinny tiny sentence but they do appear in the beginning somewhere! It’s before they clog on vacations and I think they’re in an ice cream or cafe?
OH GOSH IT SOUNDS SO GOOD. I don’t know how long I can control myself eithout buying that book. Will tell you about my feels when I do 😉
THE EXCITEMENT IT REALLL.

HOW COULD I FORGET MORE THAN THIS! I SO NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THAT ENDING! Ness needs to get to that now!
Everything Everything was an alright book, the plot twist didn’t put the nail in the coffin for me, and I agree it would be interesting to see Maddie a few years from the ending!

OH YES, that ending was just cruel, I need to know what happens next in that book, like, REALLY NEED it.
I’m glad you still managed to enjoy this book, there were so many mixed reviews about it! I’d love to see what Maddie becomes 🙂
Thank you ❤

Great list! I would definitely want to know all about Sutter, Amy & Roger, the Garretts and the girl from We Were Liars. Those are perfect examples of when the story was done, but you did not have any clue what would happen with all the characters next even though you needed to know.

Yay, glad you agree! I really loved those characters and their stories, I’m sad I can’t know more of what happens next, and how their lives turns out to be!

Exactly. There are just some characters where their storyline of the book is finished, but not their life story and I need to know.
